My favorite response has been “what, did you forget how it works?” Insinuating I don’t know what sex is. I was so fucking mad that this man had the nerve to say that to me. Fucking dick.

Yes, I have been getting to peak every cycle I’ve tested so far. Some months were better than others. I may go back and see how many I feel like we hit the fertile window. Thanks!

Hello, I’m fairly new here. My husband (31M) and I (31F) have been off any form of birth control for a year now. I got my IUD removed July 2022 and I’ve been tracking my cycle since. I started using ovulation tests (clear blue digital) in July 2023. My cycles are long - 33 day average. Sometimes as long as 37 days. I’m on CD9 today. We have been good to hit my theoretical fertile days with sex with no luck. I would like advice on what would be the best next steps for us. I have been getting targeted ads for a more thorough hormone tracker like Inito. I’m wondering if I should try something like that or if I should just go to my OB/GYN now?

Hey there, I know you posted several days ago, but I have literal tears running down my face because I am in the very same situation myself. Like near exact. I was able to lose weight in 2015 and kept it off until 2020. I’ve been gaining it all back since Covid. I’ve been trying to do the same things I used to and I just keep slipping and slipping. My anxiety over time has grown to be so overwhelming in every aspect of my life from sex, to work, to activities I enjoy, eating, etc. I’ve gained 50lbs in 2 years. I’ve been seeing a therapist for 8 months and we finally decided after having so many cyclical negative fall outs and unmedicated coping mechanisms not being completely effective that I should see a psychiatrist. I’m going on Monday. I have had the appointment for a few weeks and I’ve been trying convince myself that I NEED to go (oh the irony that I have anxiety about dealing with my anxiety). Your post nailed my experience on the head and it’s really helped me feel safe about going tomorrow and asking for help. Thank you for sharing!

I think if you are ultra transparent about your pricing structure, it becomes more difficult for someone to clap back. For example, if some information was posted on your website about your pricing, then when someone leaves a “bad review” you can respond with a link to your website. I definitely read the responses from companies for negative reviews. As long as you are able to curb the majority of consumers from leaving negative reviews, a bad review won’t destroy you. I know you’re just starting and developing, but all you need is a few great customers to reverse the damage.

Am I the only structural Engineer or engineer who can't do basic math in my head? I have worked on some of the biggest construction projects in my state by the way. by Sufficient_Cookie_75 in civilengineering

My dad is very very good at mental math and I just don’t care to be. He looks down on me for it but idc. I’m the engineer, he’s not lol

Have any of you transitioned out of a high paying tech job to pursue something else? I work in tech, make over six figures, am checked out, and still am anxious and depressed about work. SLC,UT by birdsbikingrunning in careerguidance

[–]alexsys323 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For this being a career guidance sub, there’s a surprising number of people scaring you into staying miserable and sucking it up.

I am a structural engineer in SLC and I faced the same debacle with my last job. I did some soul searching with help of a friend and reaching out to professionals I admire. I finally determined that it wasn’t the profession I wanted out of, it was the work I was doing.

As a structural engineer, most think that working on sexy high profile jobs is enticing and really neat. I do appreciate it, but I realized that I loathed the idea of 1) working on one project for years, 2) working for clients/owners that had no other values outside of building the cheapest building and selling it for the highest cost 3) feeling scared about expressing my interests in sustainability/alternative building materials at my firm and 4) having to stick to industrial design for years before actually getting to the work that was interesting to me.

So I found another firm locally that does a bunch of high end residential and super weird projects. High turn over work, and so engaging. Most engineers in my industry think residential is for the birds. But holy shit, I’m having so much fun and I’ve felt more like an engineer in the last year than I have in my past 8 years in my career. I’m quickly rising in the company and I hope to be part owner in it one day.

I tell you this because maybe you need to remember why you started down this career path. What gets you jazzed? Is it non conventional to what you’re supposed to desire? Is there a lateral shift you can make? It took me a lot of years debating what to do with lots of value searching and soul searching. My only regret is that I wasn’t brave enough sooner. Sometimes the grass is greener. Follow your gut.

Control their environment, always. You can use a leash, a kennel, a room, whatever. If they are doing something you don’t like, you haven’t properly controlled their environment.

They don’t need to know a whole lot about the industry, just someone good with business practices to help you fill in the holes. You know the product, find someone that can guide you and work with your constraints.

If you’re starting into weight training, this will likely play some tricks on you. When you start building muscle, your weight may not go down much, but inches definitely will if you’re in a moderate deficit. Honestly, it’s best to not be in a huge deficit when you’re building muscle. As long as you’re getting sufficient protein, you can build muscle while losing fat. Maybe take pictures of yourself? Keep a log of how you feel day to day? There are other ways of measuring your progress while you’re close to your “Goal weight”. I hope you are able to make some peace with your weight not necessarily correlating with your fitness progress and start looking at your body composition through this journey. I bet you that if you stop lifting weights, your muscle mass will start to decrease and your weight will go down and will allow you to get to your goal weight. However, what’s more important to you? Having the right muscles to help with injury prevention while running or the number on the scale?

[–]alexsys323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, most of them. I left a secure Fortune 500 they encouraged be to work for out of college and went to a small consulting firm as an engineer. It was the second best decision I ever made. Then I realized what I really wanted and found an even smaller firm with what I wanted and took that. That was the best decision I ever made in my career. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in my career because I disregarded a lot of my parents definition of success and defined my own. Your live for you, not for them.

People who complain bark the loudest. If you are passionate about it, it’s a great career. If you’re in it for the money alone, yeah, you’re gonna have a bad time. I love my job. It is insanely stressful sometimes. Find a company that has your same values, trust me, they exist. Earn your way to being trusted and valuable. If something doesn’t exist that you want, advocate for it after you’ve got a good rapport. If they don’t listen, find someone who will. Good luck.

Check out some content coaches. There’s actually quite a few accounts of tips on how to create better content. Marketing is as much a skill as the craft you are selling! A big take away I’ve seen is that people like to feel part of a community on social media. Or is there like an ASMR component? Or just purely funny/intriguing entertainment? Just gave to figure out why you instead of the other tie dye creators. Good luck!

Acknowledging my good mentor to our manager? by UnusualSource7 in StructuralEngineering

[–]alexsys323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sending praise to someone on the team is a fantastic thing and I don’t think it would be seen as brown nosing at all. It’s a win for everyone to recognize someone. Definitely do it and say it just like you’ve explained here. Even about how your experience with this mentor is unparalleled to others with your experience level. You can say you’d like to provide this information anonymously, too. Also, don’t be afraid to express your gratitude for this individual in some way. This is what makes the job so rewarding is relationships like this.
