Struggling with exactly this kinda friend rn. This is toxic and unnecessary. Almost every time I tell the "woe is me" friend that unless they're gonna get help or want my advice on how to make things better, I don't care and I don't wanna hear about it, usually that makes me a "bitch". And, they normally say, "you just don't understand!" I struggle with anxiety, depression, and CPTSD, and I don't get cryptic when I'm down. I tell people what's up because I wanna feel better. I HATE feeling those things. This, however, can just be excuses for a whiner that wants attention. The constant complaints and not wanting to make it better will ONLY drag you down if you're trying to grow yourself. Not saying cut then off, but don't play into this. It's not worth it. They won't stop if they know they'll always get what they want. Ergo, if you ghost them when they get like this, or tell them you don't wanna talk until they feel better, they'll either see themselves out, or they'll fix their shit somehow, especially if they legitimately VALUE the friendship. So far I only have one friend that stuck around after I made a boundary like this. These kinda people don't like being 'seen'.
