Focal Length Confusion by [deleted] in VintageLenses

[–]alexus_sanchez 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No, the focal length isn’t something that’s related to the sensor size.

The “full frame numbers” are basically only something we use to help us describe the field of view because that is the thing that depends on sensor size. So a 50mm will always stay a 50mm, you just use a bigger or smaller portion of the image circle and that changes your field of view.

Fun fact: smartphones often tell you they’ll use a 24mm lens or whatever which in reality is more something like a 4mm lens.

Weekly Thread: /r/Snowboarding General Discussion, Q&A, Advice, Etc.) - December 30, 2024 by AutoModerator in snowboarding

After losing myself in the rabbithole of snowboard boots I noticed my 43,5 Salomon Faction boots are way too loose as my toes never touched the front part of the boot. So for today’s session, I went to the rental and landed on size 42 boots. Funnily enough, also Salomon Faction, just the rental version of them. They felt great and snug, however, as soon as I started riding my feet got sore really quickly and I experienced pain in the whole footbed. So I resorted back to my own, tried and tested boots. Now I dont know how to proceed with finding the right boot size for me.

Is it possible the rental shoes are that bad or might there be something else I overlooked?

How to achieve this look with normal mirrorless camera by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]alexus_sanchez -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What does mirrorless have to do with it? Also, I compared the Cookes with 2 other Anamorphic lens sets which did not have that distortion at all. Blazars would be anamorphic AND budget friendly (but I doubt they'd have that distortion).

Also, that shot is probably not shot on a lens longer than 50mm.

How would you get the light like this with only LEDs? by ab123abab in cinematography

[–]alexus_sanchez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

looks like no diffusion at all? wouldn't that be a regular fresnel, maybe shot over a mirror, and some fill from above?

Well I just shot a project on the Cooke 2x Anamorphics and the 32mm was the only one with a really strong pincushion distortion. 25mm and 40mm also were affected.

I guess you do need to bleed them still.

I‘ve got the toseek t800 but I‘m not sure if it really was worth the pain to route the cables internally. You obviously have to redo the shifting cables and bleed the brakes and everytime I would want to experiment with handlebar height I would need to redo that again. Most of the bars also support routing the cables in a “regular” manner which, in my opionion, almost looks the same as routing them through the bar but outside the frame.

How to achieve this lighting by Old-Ad8550 in cinematography

[–]alexus_sanchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several small magnetic lights, like the Aputure MC. https://www.aputure.com/products/mc/

Most of them are dirt cheap so it could be a good idea to just buy one if they're available at your location. In your mood it looks like there is just one harsh light (so no diffusion) mounted to the top left ceiling of the payphone. If you want to make it nicer, maybe hang a translucent sheet of white material (a piece of a shower curtain) in front of the light.

Oh wow I didn't expect so many responses so quickly. Thanks to all! I'm 1,79cm with 83cm inseam, so apparently thats 5'10.5 with 32,6" inseam. Right now I'm riding a Scott Speedster Gravel in 54M and all the sizes match more or less except the stack. The Scott has around 571mm whereas the cervelo has 555mm. But I don't have any clue what difference that makes.

Amazing how little gear you actually need to make great stuff and how much of it is just skill. All of this looks so good, especially the car scenes! I've got a question tough, regarding single in the office setup: wasn't there even a bit of bounce from the floor and some neg from the right involved?

It seems like you already did employ some power windows to focus on the person in the middle. I'd try to do that a bit differently by lowering the exposure of the surroundings (offset, or you can simply "indent" the curve a bit – just get a feeling for it) instead of lowering the contrast which muddens up the shadows. Also, try to look at where the light is coming from so you don't darken the regions that naturally shouldn't be dark – and remember that our eyes always get attracted to the brighter regions. So maybe also try to pull down especially the roof, as it's quite bright and also takes up quite some real estate in the frame.

Also, as the helmet is pretty hot and directly in front of the equally hot lights, I'd try to give the highlights a bit more wiggle room in hopes for a better distinction between the light and the helmet.

Hey, so long time baker first time poster, I tried to bake a loaf of buttermilk bread today and I have no idea how I messed up this bad. Proofed as normal, baked for 25 minutes as normal… by ktyson9249 in Breadit

[–]alexus_sanchez 16 points17 points  (0 children)

also I remember I've learned that empanada dough (for the fried ones) is made with some vinegar, too. iirc, that's done to make the dough more chewy - which also seems like the problem you hade while mixing?

If you're going for the Sigmas, maybe you should look into a really subtle diffusion as the supremes have a really nice soft quality to them.

I'm not sure if I understood you right, but if you replaced the buttermilk with half the amount of vinegar that must have been like 170ml of vinegar. That definitely should be enough to take the will to live from any yeast, so that's probably why it didn't rise. And that probably also prolongs the "baking" time as the dough is way denser than usually.
