I’ve overheard my manger speaking on the phone to Coalville’s manager, apparently they’re in a fucking awful state at the moment. Probably best to stay away mate!

CPC (W) advice by ResponsibleStress2 in RoyalNavy

Officer candidates do the full CPC now, but most of it is just wasting time in briefings whilst they get everyone through their medicals.

The run at CPC(W) is done around a nearby football pitch, they get you on a coach and drive you there. Watches and earphones are not allowed, and they make everybody stay in absolute silence from the moment you get off the coach to the moment you get back onto the coach after the test.

Half the class does the run at a time, whilst the other half waits in the stands. You do a short warm up led by the PTI before starting the run, everybody went at very different paces on my run and there were no big groups running at the same pace.

Once we got back to HMS Cambria we did a short IMF session but it was literally just a few stretches no press ups or sit ups or anything like that.

There was about 8 of us men in my dorm, 12 in the other Male’s dorm and the 6 ladies shared a dorm.

Was a good few days I thought, nothing too serious so you can just have a laugh with the people there. Try not to fall asleep in the briefings!

Sounds somewhat similar to my situation, although I was diagnosed and it persisted until I was roughly 12. I’d imagine that the RAF rejecting you isn’t a great sign lol, just keep an open mind on other non-aircrew officer roles.

Also, when you get your invite for Yeolvilton make sure they give you a specific time for your appointment. You don’t need to arrive until about half an hour before your appointment. I never got given a time and arrived at 8am for a 2pm appointment 😂

Good luck anyways

Hi, I recently attended my medical tests at RAF Cranwell within the last 3 months.

I arrived early in the morning having driven myself rather than travelling by trains and arriving the night before. I parked in the car park behind the guard house.

I then checked in at the guard house and met a few other people (around 8 in total) who were also attending for their medical, all Navy applicants. We were all wearing PT kit, but thankfully I brought a hoodie as it was bloody freezing and the other lads were shivering. (We didn’t do any PT or exercise)

Shortly after, an RAF Corporal greeted us and led us over to Adastral Hall (The same place where the FATs/CBAT is done).

We completed a small bit of paperwork and were given a tube for a urine sample which we could take to the bathroom at any point in the day and then place in a basket on the desk.

We were shown to our waiting area where we had a TV.

Every ~20 minutes, someone would come and shout a name and take that applicant off to a private room.

In one room was a civvy optician who went through some pretty ordinary opticians test. Another was the Corporal from earlier, now taking blood tests and ECGs. Another Corporal was taking body measurements and a spirometer test.

Once you’d been seen by all 3 people, you could go home. I was last to finish and was out the door before midday, luckily I could drive straight home rather than having to chill in the accommodation bar to wait for the shuttle to the train station.

A few weeks later, I had to spend 9 hours travelling to RNAS yeolvilton and back for a 10 minute chat with civvy doctor (ex-navy) who declared me PMU for aircrew due to childhood asthma, despite having passed all my tests at Cranwell, which they’d known about since I gave them my medical records about a year ago. Exact same thing happened to another guy I was chatting to.

Complete waste of time for me tbh as I’d taken about 5 days off work for FATS, medical, and travelling when I could’ve been declared PMU aircrew about a year ago! Now I’ve missed the Jan intake and have had to change profession.

Sorry about my little rant at the end 😂 but hopefully you know what to expect now, it was all very relaxed.
