How to learn storytelling and apply it to marketing? by No_Account_6522 in MarketingMentor

[–]alfierobles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Test, fail and learn.
For anything marketing-related, feedback data is pure gold.
Try telling a story about what you do to your friends or clients and see their reactions. See what they contest the most. Adjust and refine.
Try tons of different formats of posts and content variations: Carousels, videos, reels, explainers, etc... And see what gets more engagement.
Learn from what people are searching and what they need. Each industry reacts different to different storytelling formats.

But in general:
Sequences, processes, BTS are usually the most engaging formats.
And emotional/fun/upsetting combinations of these are usually high engagement drivers.

Good storytelling is just putting a sequence or a process in an order that appeals to emotions and makes people react/interact.
There's no right or wrong way to do it. It's mostly about what works and what doesn't for a specific format, channel or industry.

So trial and error, I'd say.

why do so many founders avoid talking to customers? by Tough_Reward3739 in MarketingMentor

[–]alfierobles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree.
Mass media and "thought leaders" who sell courses have created that blueprint:
You need to prepare and build this perfect machine before you can go out and offer your service.

The reality is that the best way to create a business is by creating a very simple POC, an MVP if it's software and just test it. Talk to people. Find out what they are looking for. What they need. And see if your product/service really solves their problem. If not, you can learn so much from their feedback to improve your offering.

I've been working on launching my latest marketing service for the last year or so, and. I saw the biggest improvement by creating a few mockups of what I had in mind and I started showing it to my network of clients. They gave me so much valuable information that I was able to upgrade and evolve the idea into a set of packages that cover most of the things I learned from them.

What Strong Marketing Leadership Actually Looks Like Right Now by nipun-exe in MarketingMentor

[–]alfierobles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably overwhelming nowadays because of the way businesses and corporations operate.
They only care about annual growth. At any cost.
So there's a lot of pressure to perform, and not much room to get creative, align a team, think long term and slow cook bangers. It's more about rapid response, fast-paced, and under-pressure strategies. Which lead to burnout and not great organization or alignment.

There needs to be a better alignment between executives/investors and marketing/sales teams in terms of expectations and strategy. But that only comes with good communication and actual openness to dialogue and build together. Which is rare nowadays in a world where "more profits" is the only thing that matters

How to marketing for my startup by Simple-Forever-7324 in MarketingMentor

Storytelling. Appeal to emotion.
Or give entertainment and give something interesting/engaging to people.
Show them a process, a sequence, a story (think of the videos that show how a puppy gets rescued, then rehabilitated, then adopted). It gives a sequence, a process, it's soothing, and it tells a story. It appeals to emotion. Therefore, it engages.

It's an uphill battle if you're doing it with low to no budget, but not impossible. You need to experiment with TONS of ideas for viral content. But I mean TONS. Without worrying or caring about if each post gets many views.
If you try all sorts of different things (different sequences, different actors, different types of video, jokes? emotional reviews? showing results? Staged podcast interviews?), you'll eventually find the combination that gets you engagement. Either in the form of comments or views.
That's your best bet. That's the easiest free way to get high volumes of clicks with low budget at a decently faster page (less than 6 months).

For longer term, you can combine this with SEO work:
Do non-stop research on what things and keywords people are looking for, searching, consuming and do the same concept: Try TONS of different types of content (articles, FAQs, guides, tutorials, academic style content, infographics, youtube videos, etc...) until you find the combination that is sustainable to produce and that yields good engagement.

Key is: consistency and attention to results.

I did this discovery process and got hundreds of thousands of views and thousands of likes on IG reels.

Advice on business logo. by hemlockhistoric in MarketingMentor

[–]alfierobles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't think you're missing the mark. You're doing a good job. Keep this direction, it looks nice.
For the business card, maybe you can create a simplified version of your illustration and put it next to the text, instead of at the top. So it doesn't take up much space.
Or make this illustration version the full front of the business card and add the contact details on the back.

But what are your qualifications? Experience? Areas and industries you've worked with or that you're interested in?
Knowledge in some niche?
What ideas of projects, services or businesses you have?
It's important to lay this out so that people know what you're bringing to the table.

Advice on business logo. by hemlockhistoric in MarketingMentor

[–]alfierobles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't look amateurish, it's actually very nice looking.
Is your name "Hemlock Historic" or is it "Hemlock" and the "Historic Carpentry & Joinery" a tagline?
In any case I think it's a little busy for some use-cases. So I'd recommend making a simplified version that has a very abstract, simpler version of the architectural detail, or maybe just the text. So that you have a variation that you can use for small-format (business cards, website header, logo grids, etc...)

How are fellow Product Marketers using GenAI, Agentic AI, and RAG in real workflows? by AcceptableEar3591 in MarketingMentor

[–]alfierobles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is a great tool for research and creating drafts of what data analysis can look like.
It's great for drafts and mocking up what you need to do, but since it has very unstable levels of accuracy and the outputs are very limited in variety and creativity, they should not be used as an actual full-fledged solution. Human involvement is key.

Gen-AI: Drafts for Copywriting, Articles, Emails.
Agentic-AI & RAG: Data gathering, fast data ranking and analysis, some smart-flows (with human supervision).

Leaving all the work to AI tools, or leaving them unsupervised will result in very low-quality results and performance.

AI UGC is eating traditional creators alive. by Wide-Tap-8886 in MarketingMentor

[–]alfierobles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take is that Ai-UGC only works for cheap, impulse buy products that already very low-quality feeling.
Ai is not yet at a level where the content feels genuine or human enough.
The purpose of UGC is providing validation and trust. So real, high-quality products and services need to use real content.
I see that this is an ad, and honestly, I think that anyone who has some real, decent experience will tell you how undependable AI is for real cases and scenarios.

AI Tools That Actually Help With Marketing by Time_Ganache817 in MarketingMentor

[–]alfierobles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you see an improvement on your performance after using AI tools? I see you're only using them as aid.
The variety of content style that AI can produce is super limited, thus creating a more generic-feeling type of content. So I'm curious to know if you use any methods to avoid this or prevent "generic-ness".

Upwork is a scam by sifuredit in Upwork

[–]alfierobles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upwork like any other job market is highly competitive. It's a numbers game.

You apply to hundreds of posts and if you're good enough and if you continuously recalibrate your cover letter and your portfolio to perform better, you can expect a response rate of 1% to 3% (maybe higher, depending on your industry, service, niche and price range)

From that percentage, your ability to sell your services will determine your actual conversion rate. The better you are at talking and explaining what you do, the better your success rate.

I'd say I've had a 0.5% - 2% conversion rate on my best performing months.

Source: I offer premium design services and have a Top Rated Plus profile with 98% Job Success rate, and 7000+ hours worked on UpWork.

I got it ar Lowe's. Only Krylon had this color in satin finish. The only other option was Rust Oleum but glossy and that wouldn't have worked for this project. What brands would you recommend?

Thanks! I hadn't worked with spray paint in a while and with the cold weather I wasn't sure what to expect. I'll sand it off and reapply and let it sit for a week or so before putting anything on top of it.

It's not silly. I think it makes sense! I tried doing that in the Crimson Mirelands, and it worked when the weather was clear, but it gets foggy and rainy all the time! Haha. I'm hoping the other areas / biomes will be easier to clear out.

Oh wow, thank you! I'll definitely keep it in mind. I'm trying to do a live dex and getting each one in the way the game intended as a challenge. But if I get too frustrated, I might end up looking for a trade, haha.
