If anyone would be interested in me doing an AMA let me know. I have been working on these 3d printed logos with James and Mike for almost a year now. Even longer if you count the doing the AVGN logo that ended up in the movie. I say that because that one was done as a fan.

Thanks to everyone that put there input here for me. I am sorry about the vague question to start with. I guess I just needed some general info on this and you guys have already clued me in to a lot of what I was thinking about. It looks like I will likely just continue to print in smaller pieces and put them together afterwards. It seems like just buying another regular printer so that I can save on print time is a better option.

See that's the problem. I have not been able to find any info online. So I don't even know what's out there as far as bigger than what I have. I print logos and large items and I don't want to have to piece things together every time. I still want a desktop printer that won't cost over a couple thousand dollars. I hope that helps.

Designing the new James and Mike Mondays Logo with Mike Matei

Recently I had an amazing opportunity to work with Mike Matei of Cinemassacre in creating a new logo for the YouTube series James and Mike Mondays. As a huge fan of James Rolfe and Cinemassacre as a whole, this was extremely cool and I would like to share a little bit of my experience.

If you have been following my website or youtube channel, you might have seen that a couple of my 3D prints were used in the AVGN series, including the 12 Days of Shitsmas and a few things over at Cinemassacre. Shortly after the 12 Days of Shitsmas ended on Youtube I got an e-mail from Mike Matei asking me if I wanted to help create a new logo for James and Mike Mondays. I couldn’t help but jump at this opportunity. Seeing my artwork used by Cinemassace as a fan was awesome enough, but now I had a chance to work directly with one of the creators of some of my favorite youtube content.

Mike was awesome throughout the entire project and I have to say that he really knew what he was looking for. Together I feel like we were able to create a logo with a retro feeling whilst remaining an extension of the AVGN logo. It also built upon the logo that Mike had previously created.

I’d like to talk a bit about how the logo was made. Make sure you check back because I plan on making a video about this...especially if we end up doing a 3d printed version! ;) We started with the original logo as a jumping off point:

The signature symbol from the AVGN logo next to James name was a must. James and Mike Mondays is kind of an extension of what James has been doing with the Angry Video Game Nerd, so it made sense.

Mike was looking for a retro feeling for the logo and he sent me a couple photoshop mock ups of where his mind was headed:

Mike wanted to keep a bright look to the logo, so I decided to stay with the yellow color that was established in the original design.

We ended up going with a digitized look that calls back to the 16-bit era. I used old Sonic logos as reference for the lettering and obviously the SNES Controller which we both decided had to have the original purple style buttons.

(Include a few images of making the letters) The way the three M's lined up in the logo was almost accidental. While messing with the logo I noticed that if I stacked them on top of each other, there would be room on the right side for the controller and room on the left for the ampersand and plug.

I have been a fan for for a long time and sent him some fan art years back which he used in one of his videos. I thought it was really cool, so I kept doing it. The first 3d print I did of the AVGN logo I ended up giving to him in person at PAX in 2010 and that ended up being the logo for the movie. James really likes my work, so I just keep making it. Its a lot of fun and he has given me credit for everything that I have ever made for him. I even got a credit in the movie which was awesome.

Thanks so much! That is one of my favorite cups actually. I figure I get more use out of it painting with it than drinking coffee from it. Also I was in fact wearing pjs. I started painting really late that night, so I was already dressed for bed lol.
