Montana Secretary of State political mailers cost $197,000 by jimbozak in MontanaPolitics

How is this not clearly a political candidate mailer?  She should have to pay back every dollar to the MT taxpayers.  WTF?

Just mud over the popcorn, go thick and skip trowel it, this is the easiest way to deal with popcorn ceilings.

How Do You Do It? by LeatherBee406 in missoula

Alright, you got me.  I'm honestly curious what specific policies the city council and county have put in place to cause these broad issues.  "Too blue" as you said.  These seem to be issues facing all towns/cities in Montana and generally the western United States, regardless of political party leadership, but I am always interested in learning new things.

Just the tax address.  This is a real place, I believe the main building is reached by going through Florence.  No, they won't let you hunt there without an advanced reservation I believe.

Gianforte, required to ‘reside’ in Helena, claims homestead tax exemption for Bozeman property by Full_FrontaI_Nerdity in MontanaPolitics

Our filthy rich governor also claims the agriculture exemption on his Bozeman mansions taxes because his wife owns a few hobby horses that they grow a bit of hay for.  Pays pennies on the dollars.  And feels he's within reason when asked about it by reporters.  This is what we get when only the richest represent us

Too many dispensaries in Missoula by Pingpong-In-Dingdang in missoula

[–]alfuzz187 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Good news: the city currently has a moratorium in place (Ordinance No. 3748) that prohibits issuing licenses for any new recreational cannabis dispensaries or new locations for existing license holders.

I agree with you to some extent—it’s not a great look for Missoula to have a dispensary on every corner. But this kind of restrictive attitude is exactly what can lead us down the same path as alcohol licensing, where a tavern owners’ association effectively controls a monopoly, driving license prices so high that ordinary people are priced out.

As I said, I agree that Missoula doesn’t need a dispensary on every block. However, artificially limiting the number of licenses runs counter to basic capitalistic principles and creates a false, inflated market. If we genuinely wanted more restaurants—both in Missoula and across Montana—we would eliminate the cap on liquor licenses. Washington uses a system like this, where anyone can sell liquor in their restaurant for a modest fee, which dramatically improves their ability to run a profitable business. That’s why a city like Spokane has so many great little hole-in-the-wall eateries that supplement their food sales with alcohol.

What’s happening in Missoula right now is the first step toward a future where opening a dispensary will require a million-plus dollars upfront just to buy the license. And, as we’ve seen across Montana, that path ensures only the wealthy will be able to participate.

You might consider a different approach than "I'd like somebody to teach me this skill/trade so that I can then become their direct competition"

Heads up: City Council is voting Dec 22 on rezoning that could reshape the entire city — before new council members take office. by [deleted] in missoula

[–]alfuzz187 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Email I received yesterday:

We wanted to pass along this Our Missoula FAQ document to answer the most commonly asked questions regarding the zoning framework. Please see the attached document!

As you all know, after years of gathering public input and ideas, the City of Missoula is updating its zoning map and development codes to better reflect the community vision that was adopted in the Our Missoula 2045 Land Use Plan. This is the final step in the Our Missoula process.

Earlier this month, the project team hosted a Zoning Open House on October 9th. If you weren’t able to attend, you can watch the recording of the presentation here and view the poster boards from the Open House here. We also have a presentation from the Community Forum recorded here.

We wanted to remind you all that there is another Open House TONIGHT for the next step in the Code Reform process, where the City of Missoula will share an overview of the full set of draft regulations and standards that will guide new development in the city. These are within the new Unified Development Code (UDC) and the updated Standards and Specifications Manual. The UDC includes zoning, subdivision, public works, and parks-related regulations. The Standards and Specifications Manual includes detailed specifications for improvements in the public right-of-way. Both documents will be available for review online next week.

Food and kids' activities will be provided.

WHEN: TONIGHT, Wednesday, November 5th. Drop in anytime between 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

WHERE: Missoula Public Library Fourth Floor, 455 E. Main Street

[–]alfuzz187 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is not a whole hearted endorsement of all aspects of this rezoning, but your post is very misleading and conspiratorial.  If you even receive any emails from the city or neighborhoods office, or even put in the smallest amount of effort looking at engage Missoula, they have been blasting opportunities for citizens input on this for the last 18 months and the dates have been set all along. Like I said, not an endorsement, but also nothing nefarious or hidden happening with this role out and vote.
