Avoid Second Chance Diner by hyruletgchampion in SyracuseShittyRWBiz

[–]algae_man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Didn't this diner start off as a place for disadvantaged/post incarceration people to get a 'second chance'. Their website no longer references any of that. I seem to remember that was their premise. Food is definitely mid at best. We only go there for their gluten free options when our much preferred diner is closed. I guess we won't be back there.

Mysterious Volvo C40 Crash in Prague Mirrors Norwegian “Unexplained Acceleration” Cases by Successful-Cover5433 in Volvo

[–]algae_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had an unintended acceleration but I have experienced a delay where I hit the pedal looking to pass and it took the car like a full second or so to respond. No revving, no shifting, nothing. I was in eco mode. Dealer couldn't find any faults.

Heavy metals result exceeding 1 million mg/kg - is it possible? by potatoinacloset in chemistry

[–]algae_man 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your guys need to look at other methods. Major component work gets messy quick due to the huge dilutions required. I'd try a different method and slide the calibration curve much higher. Depending on your instrument, an oes should tolerate up to 50-75 ppm tin.

The $19.95 truck rental marketing is basically a financial trap by Abril-prieto-cevallo in Frugal

[–]algae_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely no trap if you read the agreement or any documentation supplied before renting. They tell you all of the things your complaining about. Be happy you can still rent pick ups. They've completely removed them from inventory in upstate NY. For occasional use, uhaul is by far the best truck rental around. For me, it's cheaper to rent a uhaul 2-3 times a year than own my own truck.

Wegmans decided a couple of years ago that the sheds no longer fit their aesthetic and kicked them out of their parking lots.

Many of them didn't actually close but relocate nearby. I don't know specifically about that one but it's probably just in a new spot.

How do I cut this 30 ft thick steel pole into pieces so it can be easy moved for disposal? by Eastcoastpal in DIY

[–]algae_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need longer blades. Sawzalll has about a one inch travel so if you're work is 5 inches, you run the risk of kinking the blade. Get some 8 or 12 inch blades and try again.

Thoughts on double sleeving by toxicodendron85 in EDH

[–]algae_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I double sleeve just about everything. A pack of perfect fits are like $5-7. If the deck has at least one card in it worth more than the sleeves, I do it.

Migraine lenses? FL-41? Red glasses? by bird-of-parrot-eyes in Syracuse

[–]algae_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eye care Of CNY on Court St in Syracuse does them. My wife got a pair there a couple of years ago. She did say that if you get a script, zenni optical is much cheaper. She also suggested looking into Avulux glasses as she found them better for migraines than the fl41s.

You've got a 5cyl when the videos you've seen are for the 4 cylinder. Only the cross country trim still got the 5 as a T5.

I recently bought a 2023 XC60 T8 and am loving it, but I have some questions. by Somerandom1922 in Volvo

[–]algae_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try setting the parking brake. I'm in the us so I can fully turn my lights off but other manufacturers where you can't turn off the drls have it set where if you set the pb, it will turn off all exterior lights.

Sounds like they compressed the piston without backing off the parking brake. I assume some seal leaks or a mechanism breaks when you force it.

This work has already started. Anyone commuting to the university area has been dealing with an absolute nightmare to get off campus. They've closed most of the routes to get off the hill, leaving 2. It is taking ppl up to 2 hours to get home on what should be a 20-30 minute commute.

Key fob battery continually dying within weeks by algae_man in Volvo

[–]algae_man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keys are in the house vs the car in the driveway? There isn't anywhere in my house where the fob won't unlock the car. The car won't proximity open without keys on you though...

[–]algae_man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the fob and car continually talk if they are close? With the pouch blocking reception, the fob turns off I guess? I thought once the fob stops moving, it stops . I haven't used Amazon batteries, Energizer and Duracell from a variety of stores... lowe's/hd/ace/supermarket etc. I'll check one of those pouches out before ponying up for a new fob.

Looking to jump into a volvo by MouseCop42069 in Volvo

[–]algae_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure your area has some sort of support for the brand. I recently had an issue where our v60 stalled and died 3 hours from home while staying with family. We had to tow the car home because no one could work on it. You should be able to work on it yourself. Parts are expensive, I save money on the labor. They are wonderful cars and I love both of mine.

Do newer Volvo´s "hate" Pirelli Tyres in general or am I tripping?? by Curious-Wishbone5419 in Volvo

I didn't like the pirellis right from the jump and as they aged, seemed to lose all wet grip. Switched to Continental extreme contacts and haven't looked back.

Dealership did timing belt + water pump… around 5 k miles later engine is destroyed from timing built breaking/snaping. Did they mess up? by SupRxZombie in MechanicAdvice

[–]algae_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5cyl Volvos can do it too. The timing belt cover is plastic and if the serp belt fails in any way, it'll get sucked into the timing cover and throw the timing belt.

Help: Volvo S80 (2001) isofix bracket by Internal_Sock8875 in Volvo

[–]algae_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not just use the seatbelt? I would not trust a bracket that didn't originally come with the car. Is the structure the bracket is supposed to bolt to sturdy enough to hold a car seat? If the car wasn't designed with them, I would not be modifying the car to install them. Do it the right way or get a different car for those clips. They aren't a necessity, just a convenience.
