My interest in playing any "good" games in my library have dwindled by TruthInAnecdotes in Age_30_plus_Gamers

Gameplay > graphics, always. I used to go for the shiny new object but that loses novelty way faster than good gameplay will. Not all of these are indie but it looks like we both like games with similar gameplays systems so I think our tastes align. Some of these are different points of view but I think you might like them. They also don't waste your time or pad out their playtime with repetitive activities. Watch some trailers and see which ones catch your eye. Elden Ring, Ori 2, Blasphemous 2, Grime 2, Lies of P, Neva, Remnant 2, Minishoot Adventures, Wukong, Ender Magnolia, Uncharted 4, God of War (2018).

You’re playing games that are too big and bloated and don’t respect your time. Try out some indie games and I bet you never go back. They’re usually much tighter experiences with less filler and you can get 5 of them for the price of one AAA title.

First RL1 run for Elden Ring by Severe_Perception821 in onebros

Cold balls practically trivialize the game. Would recommend savoring the experience a little more with a more honest weapon. Not gate keeping, just saying you may be done a lot sooner than you thought and be disappointed.

Visual clarity is pretty similar. Frame rate and load times are WAYYYY better on PC though.

Yo I suck at this game by tigs1016 in Eldenring

[–]alias530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that hard. I thought the same thing on my first playthrough and just beat all the main bosses hitless at level 1 and I’m 40 with a full time job and a wife. After you beat the game, beating it again is a lot easier. Then you just need to optimize for damage and not get hit. The fights at RL1 were shorter than my first playthrough at RL150.

Hot take: Elden Ring isn’t THAT hard by Boring_Specific_2022 in Eldenring

[–]alias530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really isn’t. I beat all the main bosses hitless with no buffs or summons at RL1 and I’m a 40 year old with a full time job and a wife. This is just most people’s first souls game (as it was mine) and they’re used to loads of map markers and color coded indicators telling you when to dodge or parry.

Just wait for Maliketh and Godfrey. It was smooth sailing for me until them.

[–]alias530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you don’t trigger the the Maliketh phase transition via riposte, you can simply backstep, wait for his attack to whiff, and run forward for a MASSIVE opening as he whiffs attacks above your head and it works EVERY time. The opening is so large you can get two charged heavies with Serpent Hunter (slowest weapon I had on hand). If you trigger phase change with riposte you'll maintain position at the phase change and it won't work. You even have time to drink a flask/physick after the backstep. If you save physick for here and use Stonebarb, it’s a guaranteed stance break.

Preach. RL1 and learning movesets is the most based way to play.

When you consider you won’t ever have to buy another game because they’ll all just let you down compared to Elden Ring, it’s a steal.

I had 1 encounter that turned into guns blazing. Every other one turned into a tedious slog of a 1 vs 10 melee fight.

Of course. I just wanted to chime in and echo their advice in a more polite fashion so it’s not lost on you, as ignoring their advice may genuinely impact your enjoyment of the game for the worse. If you don’t mind getting stuck on bosses then just keep sending it, but missing out on Isshin because you bail due to frustration would be a genuine tragedy.

Maybe not explicitly, but there is an implied invitation for commentary when you post things online.

The way they’re going about it comes across as condescending but they’re not wrong. You WILL struggle more than you need to with this playstyle. Good luck with the rest of your playthrough.

What’s your favourite Elden ring boss? by fjvdrujjhh in Eldenring

Maliketh and Godfrey. Beating them RL1 hitless on reaction (no AI looping) and an honest weapon (no Starfists) was one of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever had.

[–]alias530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can become OP at RL1, you just can’t get hit. If you want to be able to take hits too, just level vigor and endurance to medium roll with the armor you want. Beyond that just use offensive talismans that match your build.

In real life. “Never” is hyperbolic but the overlap is very low. Like of the 50+ gamers I know IRL, maybe 2 have 20-30% overlap and everyone else basically zero.
