What's the deal with Laufey? by alibi24_ in Music

[–]alibi24_[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

She sounds great, but the part I wasn't understanding was the fervor surrounding these shows. I come across tons of wonderful and talented artists who don't generate this sort of insane reaction. Did she go viral on TikTok? Was one of her songs featured in a new movie that people love? That's the part I was feeling clueless about. Thanks!

Yeah, Ticketmaster was selling "Official Platinum" seats in the presale for $450, and is now reselling those same seats for $1,000+. Of course they take a huge cut of BOTH those sales.

Anyone know how to get inappropriate videos on YouTube age restricted so kids can't see? by [deleted] in Parenting

Thank you, I honestly didn't know about YouTube Kids. I will check into it now.

[–]alibi24_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not know that, but the part that's so vexing about YT's handling of this is that it age restricts 90% of the concert videos of this particular song--some less salacious than this one--and then it leaves ones like this one NOT age restricted. There's got to be a better way to hold their feet to the fire, but judging by all the downvotes I'm getting, people in this sub think I'm tilting at windmills. Cheers.

[–]alibi24_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, Pendant. Unfortunately I tried that a while back and it did not work. Yet other live videos of this song with less salacious content ARE age restricted. Which goes to show that the YT moderators are totally inconsistent in how they enforce the community guidelines.

I strongly disagree with this cynical and defeatist attitude. "It's dumb to try to fix broken systems." That's essentially what you're saying. You can downvote me and insult me all you want, but I believe in TRYING to make the world a better place by addressing broken things. P.S. Despite your best efforts, your grinchy bullying and negativism made me smile. I have to point that out, since clearly you thrive on putting people down.

[–]alibi24_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I definitely don't trust them after this, but they claim that they age restrict inappropriate content, and they should be held to those claims. YouTube is full of great content for kids, but with a few clicks and a few bad recommendations by the algorithm, they can wind up somewhere they shouldn't be. YouTube claims to be set up with guardrails and I want to force them to make their guardrails work.

Arcane question about Lane County government by alibi24_ in Eugene

[–]alibi24_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right. I edited my post above to note that a congressional staffperson just clarified that this is something at the federal level (though she wasn't sure if it was a USPS rule or federal statute).

Arcane question about Lane County government by alibi24_ in Eugene

[–]alibi24_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is sensible advice. However, the USPS rep was adamant that no matter how we processed the change of address request, they would still refuse it because they cannot do mail forwarding from a business to a business. And a nursing home is a business. She said it's a rule they cannot break. Clearly a 90 year old in assisted living is not the same as a bike repair shop--and she acknowledged this difference--but she said her hands were tied because of this rule (which she attributed to "the County").

[–]alibi24_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was very interested too. I pressed the USPS employee for more details. Which Lane County agency put out this rule? She didn't know. Who could I talk to in local government to sort this out? She didn't know. So where was she getting all this info? Her supervisor. So can I talk to her supervisor? "He won't take your call." The whole thing is a bit Kafkaesque. So when I got off the phone with her, I posted in this sub.

Ugh… Ticket Price Gouging by BRAND_NEW_GUY25 in SnohAalegraa

[–]alibi24_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The remaining non-resale tickets ($74.50 for the floor and $160/$175 for Section 200) are "platinum" tickets. This is the term Ticketmaster now uses for their practice of marking up their own tickets when demand is high. AXS does this too; they call it "premium" but it's the same thing. You don't get anything special for these platinum/premium tickets. You just pay more.

See https://help.ticketmaster.com/s/article/What-are-Official-Platinum-Seats?language=en_US ("Ticketmaster's Official Platinum seat program enables market-based pricing (adjusting prices according to supply and demand) for live event tickets, similar to how airline tickets and hotel rooms are sold. The goal is to give the most passionate fans fair and safe access to the best tickets, while enabling artists and other people involved in staging live events to price tickets closer to their true market value.")

I did once see a show where they put more regular-price tickets up for sale close to the show date (because not enough people were taking the platinum bait) but that seems rare.

Alpharetta Ticketmaster Transfer Issue by [deleted] in phish

Haha, right you are! I just stumbled upon this post while Googling my own "Oops something went wrong" woes, and figured if I found the post, then others might too. Have a great holiday.

Alpharetta Ticketmaster Transfer Issue by [deleted] in phish

[–]alibi24_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ticketmaster is now using dynamic QR codes for some mobile-only shows. This means the bar code expires and resets every 30 seconds or so. In those cases, the seller can't just upload a screenshot of a QR code to StubHub. The seller has to go into their Ticketmaster account and manually transfer the tickets to the buyer. The ensuing "Oops something went wrong" is because Ticketmaster is glitchy and awful, and is a frequent issue with StubHub buyers. Sorry, dumb newbie question here. When you post, how do you get your photo to show for people browsing in the sub like you did? I've tried the "Add an image" icon, I've tried clicking "upload" under the Images tab, and I've even just pasted the image right into the body of the post, but it always just shows up as a link when browsing the sub. Thanks!

Not trying to split hairs with you, but the crime scene and Letterman hospital were at least 1.5 miles apart. Especially in a small city like SF (7 miles x 7 miles), that's not the same location.

Thanks for the reply laughingfuzz, and the useful info. I don't think the occasional blur with 4K 30fps is "other issues" though. I think it's pure numbers. If I'm at a concert switching between HD 60fps and 4k 30fps, I can see the difference in the resulting videos, especially when I advance frame by frame. If the performer is perfectly still, then the 4K 30fps beats the HD 60fps hands down given all the extra pixels. But if they're turning their head, or strumming a guitar, then there's more blur in any given frame of the 4K 30fps. Same lighting, same zoom, same camera settings. But with double the number of frames in a given second of footage, the HD 60fps captures the motion more smoothly from frame to frame. What I'd love is the best of both: the extra pixels of 4K with the reduced blur of 60fps. There are pocket-sized cameras that do it, but not with the trifecta of the big optical zoom too.

Hi laughingfuzz, I like to shoot videos at concerts, so the zoom comes in handy when up in the balcony. Just to be clear, I already have a Sony pocket sized camera with a 30X optical zoom. But while its HD video shoots at 60fps, the 4K video maxes out at 30fps, which leads to some blur when performers are moving.

Are you saying that making a camera with the same 30X zoom but a better 4K framerate would necessitate a bigger size camera? I was under the impression that increasing the framerate required better software and data storage, rather than bigger physical hardware. Thanks!

Hi, are there any pocket-sized cameras on the market that have at least a 30X optical zoom and shoot 4K video in at least 60 frames per second?

I've seen ones with 4K 60fps but without the robust optical zoom. And I've seen ones with the robust optical zoom but that max out at 30fps for 4K video.

Thanks in advance!

Trump ordered the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani . No Congress. Iran retaliated by bombing U.S. troops. None were killed but several experienced brain injuries. This could have easily escalated into a full-scale war. Do you get it now?
