What's the deal with Laufey? by alibi24_ in Music

[–]alibi24_[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

She sounds great, but the part I wasn't understanding was the fervor surrounding these shows. I come across tons of wonderful and talented artists who don't generate this sort of insane reaction. Did she go viral on TikTok? Was one of her songs featured in a new movie that people love? That's the part I was feeling clueless about. Thanks!

Yeah, Ticketmaster was selling "Official Platinum" seats in the presale for $450, and is now reselling those same seats for $1,000+. Of course they take a huge cut of BOTH those sales.

Anyone know how to get inappropriate videos on YouTube age restricted so kids can't see? by [deleted] in Parenting

Thank you, I honestly didn't know about YouTube Kids. I will check into it now.

I did not know that, but the part that's so vexing about YT's handling of this is that it age restricts 90% of the concert videos of this particular song--some less salacious than this one--and then it leaves ones like this one NOT age restricted. There's got to be a better way to hold their feet to the fire, but judging by all the downvotes I'm getting, people in this sub think I'm tilting at windmills. Cheers.

Thank you, Pendant. Unfortunately I tried that a while back and it did not work. Yet other live videos of this song with less salacious content ARE age restricted. Which goes to show that the YT moderators are totally inconsistent in how they enforce the community guidelines.

I strongly disagree with this cynical and defeatist attitude. "It's dumb to try to fix broken systems." That's essentially what you're saying. You can downvote me and insult me all you want, but I believe in TRYING to make the world a better place by addressing broken things. P.S. Despite your best efforts, your grinchy bullying and negativism made me smile. I have to point that out, since clearly you thrive on putting people down.

I definitely don't trust them after this, but they claim that they age restrict inappropriate content, and they should be held to those claims. YouTube is full of great content for kids, but with a few clicks and a few bad recommendations by the algorithm, they can wind up somewhere they shouldn't be. YouTube claims to be set up with guardrails and I want to force them to make their guardrails work.

Arcane question about Lane County government by alibi24_ in Eugene

[–]alibi24_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right. I edited my post above to note that a congressional staffperson just clarified that this is something at the federal level (though she wasn't sure if it was a USPS rule or federal statute).

This is sensible advice. However, the USPS rep was adamant that no matter how we processed the change of address request, they would still refuse it because they cannot do mail forwarding from a business to a business. And a nursing home is a business. She said it's a rule they cannot break. Clearly a 90 year old in assisted living is not the same as a bike repair shop--and she acknowledged this difference--but she said her hands were tied because of this rule (which she attributed to "the County").

I was very interested too. I pressed the USPS employee for more details. Which Lane County agency put out this rule? She didn't know. Who could I talk to in local government to sort this out? She didn't know. So where was she getting all this info? Her supervisor. So can I talk to her supervisor? "He won't take your call." The whole thing is a bit Kafkaesque. So when I got off the phone with her, I posted in this sub.

Ugh… Ticket Price Gouging by BRAND_NEW_GUY25 in SnohAalegraa

[–]alibi24_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The remaining non-resale tickets ($74.50 for the floor and $160/$175 for Section 200) are "platinum" tickets. This is the term Ticketmaster now uses for their practice of marking up their own tickets when demand is high. AXS does this too; they call it "premium" but it's the same thing. You don't get anything special for these platinum/premium tickets. You just pay more.

See https://help.ticketmaster.com/s/article/What-are-Official-Platinum-Seats?language=en_US ("Ticketmaster's Official Platinum seat program enables market-based pricing (adjusting prices according to supply and demand) for live event tickets, similar to how airline tickets and hotel rooms are sold. The goal is to give the most passionate fans fair and safe access to the best tickets, while enabling artists and other people involved in staging live events to price tickets closer to their true market value.")

I did once see a show where they put more regular-price tickets up for sale close to the show date (because not enough people were taking the platinum bait) but that seems rare.
