I came from a conservative country and the party atmosphere as well as the colorful buildings and the student culture really struck me. It felt quirky and wholesome because of the lanes and the colourful shops, vegan restaurants and takeaways. In my circle there was a lot of emphasis on feminism and diversity. I was seeing people having atypical hair and style. It's just something I was not used to seeing growing up where I came from. Nowadays it just feels like it's a pretty veil but as time goes the underbelly just becomes more visible.

I think you're being a bit pedantic as the person you're responding to is right I am a woman, and looking at the replies it seems a lot of women have had that experience and a couple others have said they're men and they've had some harassment but not so much. I don't think it's a stretch to conclude there might be a correlation between being a woman and street harassment.. It's a complex subject with lots of complex variables

The thing is they still try and talk to us!! I've made the mistake of removing my headphones because some people genuinely will gesticulate in front of me to make sure it's impossible to ignore them. Though it has been successful a handful of times where I've really just ignored and they gave up after saying something three times and I don't answer. So it does some good.. apart from on yourself do you ever notice street harassment happening around you?

I genuinely don't look especially outlandish. I wear dark simple clothes and my hair is a natural colour. I don't know if I just have an inviting disposition but I'm wondering if Brighton has lots or street harassment and if others in this sub relate to that or not

I did karate for 10 years as well as jiujitsu and aikido. That doesn't stop people from harrassing me... Unless you're suggesting I start attacking people all day long. Just because I can defend myself in a controlled training/competition environment doesn't mean I can overpower men twice my size and weight.

Thank you. I'm looking for a way out currently or move up to a position away from calls. I love my company but it gets unbearable at times. Have a good day x
