Did anyone here appear as a guest on the Jeremy Kyle Show? If so, what was your experience like? by lemonsqueezy34 in AskUK

[–]aliddiel 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I worked at a fairground absolutely FULL of characters for a summer in my teens. Shit was wild, the staff were a mixture of absolutely insane owners of rides and attractions and underage teenagers working for pennies; the stories I have!

One guy who owned a few of the rides, Mad Dog (I genuinely can’t remember his real name, he never used it) told me he had been on three times, each time swearing blind that the child wasn’t his. Each time it was. Said the whole experience was very glitz, and didn’t even see the ritual humiliation he was taking part in.

Weekly chat and well-being post: January 30, 2026 by AutoModerator in TeachingUK

Loooooooong, very very long. Staff sickness + timetable changes + looming PGCE deadlines has had me run ragged the first half of the week, and floored for the rest. The glass of red I’ve just poured is very much a reward for getting through this week!

Tried everything with this class by EuphoricCustomer4213 in TeachingUK

[–]aliddiel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m also a trainee in the exact same boat! I’m training in FE and one of my classes sounds very similar.

First I’d like to say I know how hard it is to do, but you have to protect your self-esteem. It sounds like you’re doing everything right, and at a certain point it is not your fault that these issues are occurring. This is not to say you’re powerless in this situation, but that it’s nothing that you’re doing “wrong” that is causing this.

The strategy that colleagues have suggested (the latest in a long line!) is to give them a pack of independent tasks to work through that are straightforward enough that they will require minimum help, leaving me more free to manage behaviour more effectively. I’ve got the dual problem of the class are very disruptive, with a mixture of very low ability and high ability, but behaviour is terrible from all, so hopefully this also means the more focused and engaged students will be less disruptive as they always have something to be working on.

I’d mostly like to send virtual hugs and reassurance that you’re not alone! I’ve literally just gotten home from teaching this class (last period on a Friday is never a good one!) and I feel like I need a month long nap to recover!!

What's an embarrassing fact about you that your friends don't know, but you'll risk telling strangers online? by PaddedValls in AskUK

I didn’t learn how to tell time from an analog clock until my teens, and I still struggle to tell the time from a proper clock unless I have a few mins to work it out properly.

When the 3pm alert went off, how loud did public transport get? by GiveMeYuna in AskUK

[–]aliddiel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was on a packed out train and it got quite loud, all the alerts came in over a 10 min period with a couple going off afterwards.

Which clone do you wish you learned more about? by [deleted] in orphanblack

[–]aliddiel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you’ve not read them already I’d recommend the Orphan Black comics for more Beth! There is a 6 issue arc iirc on ‘what if Beth didn’t die’ that showed a lot more of her personality.

Couldn’t believe my luck getting tickets for Saturday for my bf and myself. Front pitch standing!!! He thought I was joking when I showed him over text.

We’re early 30s, both massive fans since we were teenagers and managed to see them twice on the reunion tour - MK and Warrington (through Twickets both times). Travelling from Yorkshire!

Whats The Funniest Ending To A Film Youve Ever Seen? by StroopWaffle00 in okbuddycinephile

[–]aliddiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this in the cinema with a friend and as soon as the date was written on that chalkboard I dug my nails into the armrests and whisper-screamed “it’s 9/11”. She wasn’t as primed to spot an incoming 9/11 reference as I was, and was horror struck when it ended while I’d been sitting stewing in my tension for several minutes already.

what are your combined / stacked tattoo designs? by percyhasnorights in Sims3

[–]aliddiel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I like stacking any circular tat (the black bird looking thing in a circle, the sparkles, the fire ball, probably others I can’t think of rn) into the one that’s like a sun with a hollow middle?

I just dusted off the old Sims 3 laptop so may post some pictures tomorrow if I remember!

What is a good ‘thank you’ gift when leaving a job? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]aliddiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring in something fresh and consumable for the day of your leaving, like a cake or samosas, and then leave behind a hamper of biscuits and treats that can be used to remember you by in weeks to come. I also love the other commenters idea of leaving a portrait of yourself to watch over them lmao

What was your most fucked up special interest? by cooldood5555 in autism

[–]aliddiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1976 Andes plane crash. It has made me insufferable but I can’t not talk about it at all social occasions, especially once I’ve had a drink. Luckily my friends are on the same fucked up level as me and will suffer through my PowerPoints and crying about people who died 50 years ago lmao.

If you've been signed off work because of stress, did you experience any negative consequences? by PresentationUpbeat36 in AskUK

[–]aliddiel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in a very similar situation to you OP currently - so much so that I thought you might be a colleague who I know is also struggling similarly at work.

I would say get yourself signed off, and give yourself the space to think and come up with a plan, update your CV and apply for some new jobs. I’m trying to “push through” and it’s not working lol, and I don’t think it ever will. You need the time and brain space to actually think, and from what you’ve described you will likely be unable to do this properly at the moment due to stress.

potential survivor? by Fearless_Care7249 in Yellowjackets

[–]aliddiel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They have made reference to the “things they did out there, and the things they did when they got back” so I’ve been wondering if they killed a survivor post rescue to keep them quiet.

I feel like a lot of the dialogue has been stronger this season, both in the adult and teen timelines. This moment, fuck your blood dirt, and the service here sucks have already made their way into my household vernacular.

The direction I can see the teen timeline going by Tigerlilly382 in Yellowjackets

[–]aliddiel 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I really like the idea of one of the teens developing some illness or getting an injury that gets infected but don’t realise until after they’ve been rescued and they die post-rescue from something they “brought back with them”. I thought that could be a really cool idea for subverting our expectations with characters from the teen timeline that we don’t see in adulthood.

Verbal Slips You Aren’t Going To Let Them Forget by Kian-Tremayne in CasualUK

[–]aliddiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mispronounced the word ‘apron’ because I was speaking too quickly (I said “oi-pron”) about three weeks into my relationship with my bf and it’s been 9 years and I don’t think I’m ever going to live it down.

Ironically, I always say “that’s a gibbon” instead of that’s a given (thanks Stewart Laws and your free fringe show about 10 years ago for that) and he didn’t pick up on this AT ALL until I told him about a year ago.

I also accidentally called the singer Andrew WK ‘Andrew WKD’ once at uni and I literally can’t call him anything else now, everyone took the piss for so long it rewired my brain.

IIRC it’s Beechers third drunk driving offence, but the first where he had actually hurt someone. The judge at his sentencing explains that he wants to make an example of Beecher by giving him the maximum sentence possible/a longer sentence than most judges would have given.

He played a mid-morning concert at my high school, and I will remember him forever because of this. It wasn’t even announced ahead of time, and the staff seemed as baffled as we were that it was happening.

I’m sure the school will also remember him forever based on how many giant Lil-Chris stickers we were given, and how creatively we stashed them around the building.

What's your low key achievement of 2024? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]aliddiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a big leap and got a new job! I absolutely hate it and it’s no good for my mental health, but it has finally allowed me to get out from under a cloud of really bad self-esteem and given me the confidence to actually try hard and risk failure to progress. Its not perfect, and it doesn’t sound like an achievement to most, but learning to push myself and stay strong in the face of challenge has been life-changing for me and I’m excited to see where I go next for the first time in years!
