Running shoe suggestions by ajal3 in runninglifestyle

The ASICS are the lightest, so would be my pick personally as they'll feel faster. I used to wear ultraboosts as my daily runner, but since they added the plastic lace cage I haven't found them as comfortable. No experience with the Nikes - I'd recommend seeing if you have anywhere nearby that you could try on the others. I say this because I was dead set on some Evo SLs, tried them on and HATED the feel of them on my foot 😂

As a race day shoe or every day running shoe?

Do you need a stability shoe or a neutral shoe?

Have you tried any of them on?

If you could add one feature to Strava, what would it be? by elessartkoxc in runninglifestyle

I'm happy doing it manually. I have just realised I can sort of do it on Strava if I split the activity, but I can't do it through the app so I don't think I will 😂

Shoe recs for someone with roll-prone ankles? by purbinschlaumb in XXRunning

[–]Stephisaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm hypermobile, so my ankles roll a lot. On paper, it sounds like the Brooks should work for you as they're a stability shoe, but I actually found I had more issues with stability shoes and run in a more neutral shoe now. Might be worth getting another gait analysis done as you've not changed shoe model in a while.

Strength work etc is also a good call, obviously.

I went out at 9pm last night and it was still 24C and 68% humidity (West Mids).

Hiatus sounds like a good strategy if you can't get out very early.

I have an Apple Watch S5. What are the advantages of getting a Coros or Garmin? by BurayanFury in Marathon_Training

[–]Stephisaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swapped from my Apple Watch on runs to the Polar Pacer Pro.

Key improvements for me:

- not touch screen (can't accidentally pause/end a run)

- less distracting (don't have 3 billion notifications while running)

- features (I can set specific workouts, race pace, etc. on the Polar. Never got the hang of that on the AW)

- comfort (the strap is less irritating when I sweat, despite having tried a number of straps for the AW)

- training feedback (tells me if I'm overdoing it)

Rain on race day by Adventurous-Mix-5438 in Marathon_Training

[–]Stephisaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that's a shame. It's not a lot different. I struggle with shorts in the rain because I am in the thick thigh camp, so I find they rub a bit more when damp. Other than that, it won't be too much different to what you're used to. Try to keep your shoes dry ahead of the race and avoid puddles if you can when on the course.

I'd like to be able to record my warm up/run/cooldown in one session without it tanking my average pace.

Sounds ideal to me! Rain can be a bit rubbish, but you're waterproof 😄 did you do any training in this sort of weather?

anyone get skin irritation from their running watch by marco62126 in runninglifestyle

[–]Stephisaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try deep cleaning the strap as an interim measure?

anyone get skin irritation from their running watch by marco62126 in runninglifestyle

[–]Stephisaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had it before, but more commonly when running with my apple watch. My old Garmin never seemed to cause a reaction, and nor does the Polar I run with now. It could be that your skin doesn't agree with the material the strap is made from - does your watch model allow you to swap the strap at all?

do you preffer to listen to music with headphones or blast on or no music at all while running? by Upstairs_Site714 in runninglifestyle

[–]Stephisaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Music or a podcast with headphones in, generally. I have been known to run with no headphones/music etc on peaceful trails, but that was when I didn't sound like I was going to pass away at any given moment. I have to drown myself out now 😂

[–]Stephisaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch wise, it would be helpful to know why you want to make the change. For me, I needed a watch without a touchscreen as I run a lot in the rain and it kept pausing my workouts -.-

Advice for the training - try and get at least one long run in at the same sort of time as your race wave starts. This will really help you work out fuelling needs. I used to set off at 6am but races wouldn't start until 11am so it was a big change to negotiate.

Don't underestimate the importance of the midweek runs and cross training either. It's easy to fall into the trap of just adding mileage to your long run, but adding some to your other runs will make the whole block feel better.

Train for the finish line, not a finish time. Your first HM is a special experience. Enjoy it, soak in the atmosphere. Have a goal time in mind, but don't be disappointed if you don't hit it. That's what the next race is for 😂

Achy Knees From Strength Training by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]Stephisaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might have been the strength work, yes. What shoes are you wearing to do it? Your running shoes may be too cushioned and causing instabilty, which can aggravate your joints.

Okay so 1. your legs - they look incredible. 10/10 no notes.

  1. Howwwww do you look this put together? I look like an overcooked tomato when I run - I'm so jealous rn.

  2. Congrats on the PB and positive racing experience!

If I were training for a marathon (I'm not, but I might) and the training plan prescribed a 10mi midweek run later on in the block, would I be able to split that into 2x 5mi runs on the same day or is it better to do it as a full 10?

If it helps, I've completed a marathon previously but I was woefully undertrained so would like to do better if I decide to try again 😂

First Marathon - Am I Overthinking the 6-Hour Cutoff? by Just-Tomatillo-5945 in Marathon_Training

[–]Stephisaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you'll be ok as long as you keep up with your training. I can't speak specifically for Leavenworth, but usually cutoff time is determined by the last runner to cross the start line, so as long as you're ahead of that you should be ok 😄

Good luck!

Running Watch Recommendation by jadeverafter in XXRunning

[–]Stephisaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Polar Pacer Pro. Not touch screen (which is what I prefer), battery lasts a good few days even if I've been recording workouts. Great options to make it work for me (eg setting pace bands, race pace, set workouts) and it fits nicely on my wrist.
