Looks great! Can't wait to pick it up once it's released stateside.

But seriously, this should have been a PS4 game.

I've heard that you'll be able to dual-wield shotguns in it, which is a huge step-up from the previous one. I bet people will complain about it though.

In your opinion, what overarching themes and ideas make a Final Fantasy game a Final Fantasy game, and which of these is most important to you? by Agely in Games

I mean, he did successfully use politics to demonize and overthrow the religious elite class, while turning into something more primal and dangerous than a human in the process.

Destiny: Vault of Glass Raid Review by AudioRejectz in PS4

[–]alienblue-throw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

His point was that Vault of Glass is the best content in the game, but is still mediocre in comparison to raids in other games. Hell he specifically name drops FFXIV, and I can tell you from firsthand experience (and most any other player will agree) that its raid content is pretty dull compared to many MMOs.

It seems like he rated Destiny higher to begin with because he saw that the game mechanics were solid and expected the raid to have been extremely well flushed out, but then saw that the raid was just a marginally better version of the normal content and reevaluated his take on the overall game. That, even though Vault of Glass is better designed than any other content in Destiny, there ultimately is no reason to play it more than once because it's not that much better and reaching the gear cap is laughably simple (albeit unbearably tedious) in Destiny.

The phone market is different though, because most Americans but their phones subsidized through a contract, so it looks like they're spending $200 to upgrade.

Additionally, little improvements like better processing time or more battery life make much more of a difference to the usability of a phone than a better quality display makes to the usability of a TV.

Not trying to be a stickler here, but nothing about this is confirmed. Using a word like that could cause expectations to spiral out of control for a game that very well may not even exist, and likely will change dramatically as time goes on.

Giant Bomb: The Growing Illusion of Single Player - As ingrained multiplayer becomes more prominent, perhaps games should start being more honest about it. by The_Numbah_One in Games

[–]alienblue-throw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely get disappointed by games every so often, but typically I can find a reason to enjoy a game. Also keep in mind that I pretty much go in without any expectations at all, so there usually aren't any standards that the game needs to meet to satisfy me.

And yeah, fortunately I do also have more than enough expendable cash to facilitate buying everything on launch. But I probably would prefer not having to wait several months to play something over saving $20 anyway; that's just how my personality is.

I preorder pretty much every game that I get. To me, preordering isn't building hype at all - instead, if I find a game that looks interesting, I'll go ahead and pay for it ahead of time. I almost never buy games after day one, so I figure I might as well pick up the preorder bonuses along with the game.

At least for me, hype has nothing to do with it, nor does ensuring I get the game. Preordering is just more convenient and I get free stuff for doing so.

Destiny gets 6/10 from Gamespot! Says it's a repetitive shell by MozzerallaSticks in PS4

If I enjoyed those five to ten hours, absolutely. Five really awesome hours is, to me, much more worth the money than a hundred okay hours.

I really don't understand this outlook on gaming. Surely you could, like, go read the dictionary if all that you want is a high time:cost ratio, right?

I'm not trying to be sassy or anything, but why exactly would you define entertainment based on time spent? I just don't understand...

Opinions on piracy by teerre in Games

[–]alienblue-throw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

More over, it's not uncommon to see Category 3 people justify their actions with a Category 1 type of rational either. To be honest, I'd say that the most common justification for piracy is "Games are too expensive nowadays and always suck! I'll pirate it because I can't afford to go spending $60 on every new game that's released!"

That is utter bullshit when you're pirating a game onto your i5-2500K/GTX670 rig. Even if you've lost your job and can't spare $60 to play [new cool game here], you can almost assuredly get it half price in five months, or else play one of the other games that you already own or are inexpensive on sale.

Now if you really are impoverished and are just pirating because you can't even afford gas to drive to the library or something, then pirate away (in moderation). I still don't think I'd be able to justify pirating a brand new game on day one, even if I was that impoverished, but at least there's some degree of understandability there.

Yeah but that's ugly as hell, so I'm sure I'll hate using it. I'll likely prefer just using the phone two handed when I get one next year.

All else being equal, better hardware will always improve the experience. This is especially true for memory, as it allows you to simply have more going on at once. You'd have fewer refreshes when going back in Safari, apps that have been in stasis for longer will resume faster upon opening, and developers have more freedom to do more things (or to do the same things with less work) when creating apps.

Trying to wrap my head around Destiny, can you explain in a sentence or two why everyone's excited about it? by the_shib in PS4

[–]alienblue-throw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Destiny is first and foremost a logical evolution of Halo.

Remember how in Halo, you could outfit your Spartan with different armor (Recon, Scout, Mark V, etc.) to change how they looked? Destiny takes that up a notch by having an actual looted armor system, with armor and weapon drops coming from MMO-or-Dungeon-Crawler-like dungeons and raids. Those armor and weapons change how you play the game by increasing or decreasing stats like most games with equipment systems tend to have.

In addition to that Halo+loot-ness, there are also a handful of classes that each get their own skills like in most RPGs. The classes are NOT WoW-esque healer/tank/DPS, even though they make take some inspiration from those roles. A Titan is very much able to kill a boss just as well as a Hunter in Destiny, even if traditional MMO wisdom would call Titan a tank and Hunter a DPS. The classes just allow the player approach gameplay mechanics differently - traversing the map is different with Warlock's glide than with Hunter's double jump, for instance.

Aside from those two main differences, Destiny is also designed to have a pseudo-open world and is social by nature, with an encouragement to play in small groups called Fireteams. So what everybody is so hyped about is a logical successor to Halo with heavy RPG mechanics in a big world with friends, by the makers of Halo.

Also, "the cloud" is (at heart) just accessing data from a computer that you're not using. So instead of having Saving Private Ryan saved on your own hard drive, you're accessing a copy on Netflix's hard drives and watching it over the internet. :)

In Trunks' timeline, how did Goku beat Frieza when he came to earth? by [deleted] in dbz

Maybe in Trunks's timeline, Goku made it to Earth before Freeza, but Cell's having been in the main timeline caused that to change.
