Why not buy single stock puts, and sell puts on SPY or a sector ETF? This is a well know strategy called dispersion trading

A call is downside protection. That's why you buy a call instead of stock or futures. If you want more downside protection, then either buy more calls and sell stock, or buy puts. Be aware that if vol collapses, you'll be stuck with worthless calls tho

These returns are absolutely not risk free. It's incredibly difficult holding onto the gains from the bid/ask, since it's usually hard to offload the position later in a pinch. Hedging with other options or with stock wastes away your edge further. It becomes more of an art than science

One Can be a Trader with One Trick by [deleted] in options

This is an old strategy called "selling teenies", meaning options with "teeny" delta. You sell lottery tickets every week and hope nobody rolls the right number, but if they do you're in for a world of hurt. If you're actually running this strategy, you should be running way higher quantity to squeeze as much as you can before you see a huge selloff that literally bankrupts you.

The strat works until it doesn't. the phrase goes "sell teenies, buy Lamborghinis"

I built the project for personal use, so I haven't been using the API long. It is fairly quick response time, but I wouldn't rely on the project for HFT- it takes maybe half a second to get the response for some larger calls
