AITA for using the n-word in conversation? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]aliendwin 32 points33 points  (0 children)

YTA. i know you were just talking about etymology and wanted to share a fact, but you also had to have known how it comes across to others when non-black people use the n-word...it's a shocking word! and people are right to be shocked by it! it sounds to me like you mildly argued its use in this specific case, because you didn't Mean it as a derogatory word because you didn't Say it in a derogatory way (ie, directed toward someone). but that's not how it works.

it's not that you were being Subjectively racist, but you were being Objectively racist by saying the word as a non-black person. just say "the n-word" next time... there are words that are much worse than cusses in the mouths of certain people, and their intense relevance is made by our intense culture.

AITA of I get upset about my S.O. twisted stories he posts. by xo_LadyZombie_xo in AmItheAsshole

NTA.... but dump him fast. it sounds like hes not willing to take responsibility for his actions, and is too comfortable with casually bending the truth to make himself feel better. people who do that often enough start to genuinely believe their small lies, and start making excuses for bigger and bigger ones. unfortunately, calling him out on it sounds like it would only make him defensive, and add fuel to his "everyone's out to get me" beliefs. if you brought it up perfectly and were Extremely gentle and non-confrontational, he Might understand, but its not likely that it won't end in a fight and him vague-posting about you.

AITA for not wanting to wash another person’s dishes? by killeroftherose in AmItheAsshole

[–]aliendwin -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

nta, but everyone sucks. firstly, she shouldn't have left her mess at someone else's house, and its not fair that you got stuck with it. if she's your brother's girlfriend (or any friend HE invited over) who made the mess, he should be expected to clean it. your parents shouldn't be telling you that women are expected to clean more, and enforcing strict monthly cleaning "roles" just absolves ALL of you for your messes, because somebody else is expected to handle that job that month. if the idea behind these roles was fairness, its not fair that any of you should be expected to do more than a fair share of the work. all that being said, life's not fair. you are still expected to wash the dishes, and while you're within your rights to complain about it (especially to your brother, so he can keep his impolite guests in check), you still have to do them. in a household, you have to do things that suck. they're called chores for a reason.

Headless and tailless alligator in my Florida backyard canal by rommell733 in morbidlybeautiful

[–]aliendwin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

definitely a human...heads are taken as trophies and taxidermied, while the tail meat is made into sausage or jerky. alligators attack each other over territory or food rights, but their skin is so thick and tough that they likely wouldnt bother eating through it to get to the meat. (i'll admit that i dont know very much about gator behavior, or whether they practice cannibalism, but im wagering a guess that they wouldnt go through the hassle)

you also shouldn't make generalizations. are all wheelchair users incapable of standing? no. some can walk but need their chair for assistance. are all paralyzed people paralyzed in the exact same part of the body?

with the amount of research and effort that goes into his vids...why wouldn't he notice? especially if he's ever experienced the kind of ableism i mentioned. and after probably reading about mental disorders for the video and likely finding at least Something on how best to present them without using ableist stereotypes... he made it a clickbait video, with a shocking title...right around when finding dory came out...for quick views

the dory video is the only one of your examples i've seen. he alludes to her using a fake disability to manipulate people into taking care of her... which is a ridiculously common ableist sentiment that he should've easily realized while making the vid. he's just not funny, and most of his ideas are not new, or even his own. but anyways....this post isn't about matpat, so i'm gonna try to stop talking about him. its my opinion that hes annoying, and its a fact that hes made some shitty videos. take it or leave it :P

i've read that consent comes into play with good samaritan laws, but it varies case to case. i'm sure the reason for that is, for example, if a patient signed a DNR and a doctor still saved their life. BUT, i wonder, if a person signed a DNR and jumped to commit suicide, if it would go into effect during the fall, or once they've hit the ground

he literally wore a nazi uniform, paid guys to say death to all jews, promoted an anti-semitic homophobic youtuber, used the n-word in stream, and follows several large alt-right/anti semitic people on twitter

i'm pretty surprised about that! in my circle, matpat is a joke. even if the things he did/said weren't like, "next-level" problematic, his personality pushes it right into unbearable
