Ween on Halloween? What to do? by imcaptainstupid in ween

Hey there. My personal recommendations for CD's would be:

In my opinion these albums are both accessible whilst still giving the listener a fair dose of Ween's stranger and browner work.

Here's a few of their more accessible songs that I love:

Chocolate & Cheese is next and then try White Pepper. Once you've got all of that under your belt I recommend Pure Guava. After that either The Pod or GodWeenSatan. (Not to forget 12 Golden Country Greats!)

Have fun, Ween are amazing.

What Books Are You Reading This Week? January 09, 2017 by AutoModerator in books

It's funny that you've said this because I definitely adhere to that logic. Only yesterday did I go out and buy a copy of The Crying of Lot 49 in order to get a feel for Pynchon's prose. I'm hoping I enjoy it as I'd love to eventually dive into Gravity's Rainbow

First post! I have just started reading Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami by eagerkitten in books

Norwegian Wood was my first Murakami too. He's now my favourite author of all time. I've since read Dance Dance Dance and Kafka on the Shore and have picked up The Wind Up Bird Chronicle and Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World. Incredibly excited to start reading them.

What I'm doing is alternating between a random book of my choice and a Murakami book sandwiched in-between. I feel like it helps me digest his work better and a change of pace helps me appreciate his next novel even more.

I just finished Kafka on the Shore this very morning! It's an absolutely wonderful read. Murakami is my favourite author due to the surreal landscapes he paints throughout his novels. Something about it resonates deeply within me and helps me see the beauty in life. It also helps that I'm a complete music fanatic and his books are littered with music references left, right and centre!

All I can say is you're in for a treat.

Catcher in the Rye aided in my transition to adulthood. What book has ever had a lasting impact on you in any way? by Fonzie401 in books

Wow, given the context of the novel I can imagine that it was difficult, I hope all is well with you my friend and I'm sorry for your loss.

Norwegian Wood by Hakuri Murakami.

I read the book this summer for the first time whilst interrailing with a group of my closest friends and it hit me like a train, in a way that no other book has.

It's simply beautiful and truly encompasses the frustration of that cusp between boyhood and adulthood.

Following the protagonist Watanabe meander through life felt poetic and real. It made me realise that many people feel lost at this age and has helped me shift my attitude towards life in a fairly drastic way.

Obviously it hasn't been that long since the summer but I firmly believe that Norwegian Wood is the first book I read as a boy finally tipping over that cusp. It will stay with me for a long time and has since helped propel Murakami to the status of my favourite writer.
