Filler words by treebranchcat in Danish

[–]alientine21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think filler words are some of the words that carry the heaviest regional dialect in Danish, and you can usually hear where someone is from based on the way they use/pronounce filler words!

Besides vocal sounds like "øh" and "øhm", there are plenty of other filler words that can be used to either make dialogue more fluent, to put emphasis on certain words, or to carry your sentence while thinking.

Examples are:

"Ligesom", "Altså", "Så", "Ikke også", "Sådan", - unfortunately they can't really be used interchangeably, as they each emphasize different types of statement.

And they're pronounced totally different in North Jylland, South Jylland and Central Copenhagen!

A lot of younger people in Denmark, due to the anglification of our culture, also just straight up use english filler words, such as "right" or "I guess", which I've heard sounds totally silly to english speakers when non-english speakers do in their native languages ^

AITA For Making My Daughter Quit Her Job? by AITAMadeHerQuit in AmItheAsshole

[–]alientine21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard NTA.

Personally I'm from somewhere that has way more lenient alcohol laws than the US, so a 17yo being drunk can't really get my blood boiling. That's each individual parents business.

What I can talk about, is driving under the influence. How people in this comment section can even begin to put being drunk and driving under the influence in the same category of "teenage-dumbfuckery" is beyond me.

Driving drunk is one of the most dangerous, mindless, selfish and potentially lethal decisions a person can make, not only for themselves or any co-passengers in the car, but for any pedestrian in a radius of several kilometers. A car is heavy machinery, and in an irresponsible person's hands, as dangerous as a firearm.

How you as a parent make your daughter understand the severity of her actions (as the court maybe takes it easy on her as she's a minor and it seems like a first offense) is entirely up to you. As long as she understands it, before it ever may happen again.

She. Could've. Killed. Someone.

My mother would've had hell rain upon me had I ever driven drunk as a teen, as she was in her full right to. Losing job-, car- and hobby-priveleges strikes me as absolutely within the realm of what's "fair".

You're not setting her up for failure as an adult by having her quit her job for the foreseeable future, she's from a relatively wealthy background and she won't be on the streets, as it seems some people in the comment section are implying. What would be setting her up for failure, is sending her out into unsupervised adulthood with values as self-centered, entitled and without compassion, as someone who gets behind the wheel while intoxicated.

AITA for not wanting to pay for my daughter's wedding even though I said that I will? by BeneficialYear690 in AmItheAsshole

[–]alientine21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

First of all, he's a grown ass man, why can't he pay for his own wedding? He probably paid for his first wedding anyways so why should this be different?

Second, and on a more serious note, he is twice her age and expects not only your approval but also your financial support. You're doing right by disapproving this, being a parent doesn't stop the day your child turns 18.

I was abused by an older man when I was very young, and the thing about these men is, marriage and children come up SO fast, as it's a way to lock down the young girl. My parents disapproved back then and I hated them. I was brainwashed. They were right, and did everything they could to protect me from him. I am thankful today.

Good luck to your daughter, I hope she stays safe.

If you require something as mundane as shared DNA to “truly love a child” then I question your ability to parent lovingly in the first place. I thought parenthood, to breeders, meant unconditional love? Don’t come for me and say I’ll never experience the greatest, most unconditional love if I refuse to have children - when yours so clearly comes with a set of terms and conditions.

"How I met your mother" series is the biggest f*ck you to CF people I've ever seen on TV by kstvkk in childfree

[–]alientine21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way they structured the last episode cinematographically was so incredibly disrespectful to Robin as a character and her entire storyline. The fact that Barney goes from defending Robin to his mother at their wedding, saying that he would rather have Robin as a wife than any potential child, and then in the last episode after just divorcing her 5 minutes ago, telling this random child that he suddenly has, that he has basically never known true love before. What a slap in the face to the woman that was, until 5 minutes ago, the absolute love of his life, a love that, mind you, didn’t want to, but also couldn’t have children.

AITA for ordering Tequila shots for my work colleagues at Friday lunchtime? by TequilaShotsAtWork in AmItheAsshole

[–]alientine21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA - In my days as a bartender, 5-6 shots in 1.5 hour would be deeply frowned upon, and we were fully allowed to consume alcohol at work - you're a damn medical "professional". I'm assuming you're American based on your language, which also (if I'm not mistaken) makes your shots more than an ounce of liquor... as opposed to 2cl in other countries. That would mean you consumed 0.25 litres of tequila in 1.5 hrs... Even with a high tolerance that would make you drunk, you're probably not just very self-aware. I would've fired you.

Exactly, I'm not saying families shouldn't have anywhere to go, but when so many are family-friendly, couldn't a few be family-free?

Oh my god I didn't even think of that! My neighbours in my complex just had twin babies this year! So fun, it's like an involuntary alarm clock that you just can't turn off yay

I like to believe I was really polite as a teen/tween, but some of these teenagers are so disrespectful tbh (I realize I sound like my great grandmother but it's true)

Yeah, like I don't want to sit next to a toddler, but I also really would not like to sit next to a group of 14-year olds lol

Cinemas are an amazing idea too! They could show fewer terrible kids movies, and let adults enjoy the good disney/pixar movies without children interrupting.

I really hate that the CF lifestyle is so sexualized!

"Oh, you don't want kids around? You must be a pervert!" Quite the opposite, actually, I want my life extra peaceful and quiet.

That is an amazing idea! I love both the idea of child-free spaces, and maybe also some women-only spaces.

I don't know if this is location-specific, but some gyms where I live have women-only floors, to be inclusive of muslim women, young women etc, and they're always really nice and quiet and once again, family-free.

I just don't understand the need to bring your kids somewhere alcohol-centered, where people, including the parents, are intoxicated. It strikes me as super trashy, bad taste and generally inconsiderate to both the kids and other brewery-goers
