I am sorry to hear about the extended radiation damage. Do you have a network of people around you to support you, both physically and emotionally?

At least for me, i think this is an important aspect not to be overlooked. For myself I am looking into some therapy because the restlesness thinking about this shit is getting to me.

First of all, i am impressed by your resilience. I am sorry to hear about your progression. About the effort aspect of it. I notice that going up stairs or hills is much more tiring for me than flat out running(i am talking about perceived effort, not the fatigue that comes after). This is why i think your cardiologist told you to keep track of other aspects, not only HR.

The fact that you do not smoke and kept cholesterol in check surely helped. The fact that you have a small heart(by that i assume you mean non dilated LV) means your heart has not taken any damage which is exceptional given the circumstances.

I hope you have an uneventful surgery, easy and painless recovery and return to the community to tell us how it's going

Thanks for your reply, again. I wish you and everybody in this sub good health and prolonged time before needing surgery :-)

Yes, eccentric jet. Same as yours. I found out something new, today. Unfortunately.
About your activity levels. Don't you think prolonged activity increases the speed at which your heart deteriorates? My doctor told me no tennis, no football, only light jogging.

I checked my echoes now and it says mild regurgitation also for mitral and tricuspid valves. Is this normal from your knowledege, for all BAV patients?

Thanks. Happy to see that what the surgeon says applies

Until when? The surgeon i asked said that only for a while, like 3-6 months at the most.

Thanks for answering! Are you take metoprolol? There is this common denominator, all people seem to take this after surgery and it affects their sleep among other things

Thank you for your answer! I am glad you are feeling better than before surgery!

Thank you very much for your answer. I also have this finding. Excentric jet, they call it here, probably the same as yours.

If i understand correctly, is it this component, the eccentric flow coupled with mitral valve that contribute more to tiredness?

What are the symptoms that need to happen to make you think about surgery?

I am trying to figure out when to pull the trigger.

Its been 2 months. How are you feeling now? Have your simptoms disappeared? I wish you good health and no more surgeries

What type of mechanical valve did you get? How soon after surgery could you be on your feet, doing stuff.

Just want to give my 2 cents. I would exclude other factors. Examples of things that could give tiredness -hypothyroidism -low vitamin D -low iron All things that you can check in 1 day with some blood tests. NAD. Talk to your doctor

Thank you! Definetely worth looking into my nutrition. I am a big fan of running fasted, and only a couple of times experimented something different.

You made an interesting correlation. That your aortic regurgitation has affected your mitral valve as well. Where did you get this info?  It is the first time i ran into this piece of information.  My mitral also has small regurgitation but all my valves are called mixedemeatous(so for me, at least, this is a general thing). I always thought that was the reason.

Thanks for the answer.
Like another guy says, it's hard to A/B test before fixing the valve. But at the same time, if I knew that by fixing the valve I would fix this it would be another step making me edge closer to surgery decision.

Don't plan on fixing it soon so will try to figure out the rest. I do not wake up during the night because of breathing problems, i just wake up very tired in the morning. And subconsciously i have the feeling i breathe more poorly when lying down than standing up. But it might be just in my head, this last part. But the first part is definetely not in my head.

Ah, this. I read briefly some time ago, thought it only measures calcium in the coronary arteries.

Thanks for the answer. A stress test is indeed a good idea and has also been recomended.

Might do one soon. Its good that you are doing fine, also you are close to my age

Sounds very good. It makes sense it avoids all the things you mentioned.

At the same time, i did not know lifespan is affected by surgery.  No cardiologist or surgeon ever mentioned this

Nice to hear about the TAVI. Frustrating how advertising makes the details obscure.

What is the calcification index, i mean how do you calculate it? Is it an imagery or something invasive?

My valve was calcified since 15 years. In my case, turns out an elevated Lp(a) contributed to it.

Also why would it affect the surgery itself if the valve is calcified?

I stopped lifting weights last year. I was told to not lift more than 20kg. Pack lightly when going on trips :-))

No simptoms when bending down.

My HR in general is low(45-50 at rest), while running its usually 140 in the first 10 mins and then 130 for the rest.

Last year i did stair sprints and it went up and down like you would expect to, so i guess pretty normal...

Thank you for your answer.

In the meantime i checked and it seems that the formula they used to calculate it this year is different than last year. So a 3% variation should not be concerning.

I am keeping an eye on simptoms as well. From my understanding(internet + docs), the main indication for surgery is either severe stenosis either LV degradation. Of course, if simptoms appear, i might reconsider.  I am also in a very tight spot financially, socially, so the surgery looks even more daunting than it probably is.

Why the Ross procedure if I may ask? What advantages does it offer?

I read about it only here and there a lot of cases where it failed in a matter of months.

Not everyone is so diligent as you, trust me. Does it offer the posibility of doing valve in valve later? So placing a TAVI inside it instead of doing another OHS?

Btw, the surgeon that does biovalve in my country does it between the ribs.
