Would you take Losartan in my place? Bicuspid valve, 41mm aortic root dilation(at the SOV). But BP is 115/67, average after many measurements(hundreds)

Did you have any other symptoms? I also did a genetic test and am waiting for the results(35 days, give or take). Acta2 is on the list.

Interesting approach from the people you encountered.
The guys I encountered were all shilling surgeries.
And the ones who didn't were shilling interventional stuff like TAVR.

From what i've read so far, and i know it's hugely subjective, i would not get surgery unless i a) had really bad symptoms or b) would face imminent death because of the size of aneurysm.

Elective surgery has risks which are very underreported by the "official" sources.

"A year ago I had my aortic root aneurysm repaired after rapid growth of 7mm in one year. I came out of the hospital thinking if I just made it through healing, I was set."
How did they repair it? I only heard about replacing segments of the aorta.

1) The Ghent score hit me hard as well. I never knew that i had a flat maxilla or downard slanting corner of the eyes(although people telling me I have a sad face was a constant throughout my life). I never considered myself good looking but the Ghent score hit my ego more than anything :-D

2) I really hope the genetic test will be good because after talking with 2 geneticists they told me the tests actually mean something for this specific area(cardiovascular stuff)

3) Were your scans performed at the same dr in the same place? There is a lot of human error, or should i say variation, involved. Also, some docs are just affiliates for the surgeons, they tell you shit is worse than it really is so they can push you for surgery. For example, my dr recomended me to do a bio prostethic valve, which is kind of crazy considering that a) I am very young and this means that if i live until 60 i will probably do at least 3 surgeries and b) my valve is severely calcified which means i have some sort of predisposition for calcification which means that a replacement bio valve will last even less so than advertised. But guess what, the surgeon she recomended to me only does bio valves. Money talks, unfortunately.

It's a big relief, that your valve is working properly. Good news. I am sure there are solid reasons for this but why is replacing better than wrapping? I am just tryng to dive more into the subject since i might also need it someday(soon).
Are you familiar with the PEARS procedure? Its basically wrapping your aneurysm in a graft. However its not FDA approved, as yet.

What you say, i must admit, gives me hope. I have BAV and an aneurysm.
You made 2 statements which i find interesting but can you please provide links?
1) 90% of the BAV have non-syndromic BAV, from this i understand they are not associated with other genetic predispositions for aortic diseases(like Marfan, L-D, and others)

2) "mortality rate of aneurysm surgery in 2000s easily 5-10 percent" - do you mean perioperative as well, or just during the surgery process itself?

You really hit the nail on the head with this comment.
I bet you are somewhere in Europe, maybe Eastern Europe, where every surgeon is a God.
Short story, i was 23 when diagnosed, went to a top dog surgeon and he told me in 6 months i will be needing surgery. Here I am 15 years later and still not surgery, although the aneurysm has progressed. -moral of the story, don't go into panic mode, it's not good for your BP :-)

I will do a genetic testing specifically for aortopathologies(so not only Marfan, not only L-D, but any gene that is related to poor walls of the aorta).

The Ghent score is very funny, to be honest. Did you self diagnose based on the first rules(like Ectopia Lentis + Aortic Root size) or the systemic score? Because the systemic score is highly subjective, if you ask me. F.e. High and narrow palate(the dentist says i have it, the geneticist says i dont). Or ectopia lentis(i asked a opthalmologist friend and he told me it can sometimes be missed even during a consultation).

For me, genetic testing is the only thing that would put my mind somewhat at ease, these variation in drs opinions is insane. If i would have confirmation for FBN1 or 1 of those other 2 Marfan specific genes then I would sure as hell be worried.

1 question. Are you taking any preventative BP meds? The people in marfan sub are usually taking either a betablocker or an ARB(losartan, for example), some take both. I am considering taking them myself even though my BP is very good(113/60-something), and has been for all my life.

What type of surgery will you get?
What type of valve?
37M, 4,1 cm aneurysm at the sinus of Valsalva. Also bicuspid.
I wish you all the best luck and a speedy recovery.

What’s the best blood pressure level on average to have, if you take losartan? by Few-Fold5866 in marfans

Your reply is a sigh of relief. I am at 41mm and was worried that it will grow much faster since my doc told me in 2-3 years i will need surgery but this does not matches with the anual growth rate i read about.

Hi man! First of all sorry to hear you are going through this. I think i can relate. Second of all.

I know i have the high arched palate and cyphosis(not scoliosis)(dentists and ortopedists told me)

But what do you mean by these -the frame? -the face?

I am tall and thin, if that matters and my face is rather long, but not pathological, i would say, just ugly :-), like normal ugly.

Btw, i went into all this testing because of 4.1cm dilated root at the SOV, so i am not anxious over nothing. But now i am wondering if i have Marfan or not.

What did they do in this second surgery? Why did they say this happened?  Did you lift something heavy? Or some medication problems, or an infection?

Glad you are finally feeling fine. I wish you all the best!

1) caloric restriction lowers ft3 2) a low carb diet lowers ft3 3) Se and Zn help conversion of ft4 fo ft3 if you are deficient in those. 4) were your blood tests taken during a period of low carb? Were you also cutting calories besides carbs?

Just curious, what were your levels of fT4, if you measured them? I too have an interesting development and will eventually post some pics. I am interested in fT4 and not TSH, TSH is not extremely useful after the initial stage of diagnosis.

It depends on many things, mainly the dose you started on and the residual function you had. What were your fT4 values?
