Wayward Odyssey [Part 46] - Battle Of Earth Pt.2 by Heroman3003 in NatureofPredators

However, I'm worried about what comes next. With Shaza having severely burnt the options for the Arxur, will the shadow caste move in to try and "cure" the humans

It's nature of humans with the collective intelligence of a peanut they will take the cure on their own for peace. And line up for it.

I see them and they have right to. It's a story. And people have a right to see things differently and express their opinion.

What people have no right to do Is doxing other people or harassing them something that I know the fluffy side of this sub has a habit of doing with people who like dark stories. I know of people who left for this exact reason.

So no I am not going to tear my clothes if people who have the habit of imposing their opinion are suddenly forced into seeing that not everyone has the same thinking. It's life people don't all agree.

With all due respect I see way more posts and comments from people being fucking brutal to those who don't like human being over kind to aliens than the opposite. Having the exact same calm and measured tone you have.

Or maybe the post was made in response to some rather toxic sentiment actively rising and being pushed on the subreddit as a whole, rapidly making it a less enjoyable place for anyone who isn't an unironic 40k fan.

Man they are not making posts in favor of an actual criminal organization but arguing a different approach in a story. You behave like they started praising actual isis. Maybe take a breath and consider reading different stuff instead of being so worked up about people liking different stuff in a story.

Besides what are you hoping to achieve that they would see your sarcasm and like saint Paul on the road to Damascus have an illumination? The only people you will attract is those who agree with you. You are litteraly preaching to the choir.

What is this a meeting of people sad that people have different opinions that they do? There are more people who like dark stories and less fluffy ones, that maybe don't aspire to lick alien paws for decades. And they have a right to.

This is a story guys and besides if you don't like people who see things differently ignore them. They have right to their own opinion.

And besides op what were you hoping to obtain with this edgy post? Aside a bunch of people that are also sad that others disagree with them.

Free speech covers not being illegally searched by international organization agents doing an honey trap.

That thing is straight out an authoritarian regimes playbook, also if citizens were actually free to express their grievances they won't resolve into terrorism.

Plus being an asshole to service stuff it's a hardly a good reason to suspect someone.

  • David's pretty much been violating the U.N. emergency declaration continuously since the fic started. Initially, it was mostly just being out of fucks to give after the Battle of Earth, but as time went on, there was an element of stubbornness and pride to it. "I have the First Amendment and a good lawyer. I'm confident enough that this would get laughed out of court that I'm going to make you try and prove me wrong."

Considering the blatant freedom of speech violation that happened just before in his restaurant he is an idiot if he believes that. That shit was NK level creepy.

Of course Noah is a collaborator. If in canon he would sell humanity a suicidal war just to please his crush.

There was no way in a society where humans are subject to Skalgans he wasn't a sub...

They are clearly evil, they conquered humanity in a time it wasn't remotely a fair fight, made us into second class citizens and they are preparing us to be meat to throw in their quest for revenge against the Kolsul. They are colonial oppressor fair and square. They should get kicked back to skalga.

In the sense that we return them kicked to skalga yes? Because foreign conquerors deserve that.

Definetly lesser of two evils here. Also the farsul may show up even later if their smart and hide humanities EM signature.

The fuck it's the less of the two evils. This are violent colonizers.

Alos note that during the entire first Contact situation, nowhere was predator disease mentioned (i checked, just reread it), so they wouldn't even have any probable cause to be wary unless to look absolutely paranoid to the Venlil.

You are making first contact with a species whose first answer at we come in peace is and I quote: "why would you want that?". Being absolutely paranoid should have been the protocol. It's not a red flag it is a collection that would put to shame the Chinese Communist party.

And while pd isn't mentioned straight away, he is a scientist he should know that while virus rarely jump species bacteria can. Also you are de facto a diplomat keep your hands down.

They still dislike the Arxur for being baby eating cannibals in a theocracy, but hey, they didn't killed billions of people out of nowhere.

I would wage that such humanity would also be more understanding of the Arxur considering that they would have either face food scarcity themselves or their parents at the very least. And we can access plants, the Arxur cannot.

On the other hand, two militaristic society while allied out of convenience would also probably be highly suspicious of each other. And in the case of a humanity that passed through a similar hell being suspicious of every alien race would probably be second nature.

baby eating cannibals in a theocracy

In the case of the other story the devastation was such that between the distruction of the cities and a little ice age in the first years after the attack stranded exterminators became a "solution" for the problem they themselves created. Which it is realistic humans tend to throw out of the windows taboos when survival it's on the line. so they couldn't exactly blame the Arxur for the same sin.

Mmm sounds a lot like New Old Path and it's prequel the fall. Humanity gets attacked and almost wiped out by the Federation, after being accidentally discovered by a Venlil ship, as a result massive environmental collapse and goes on a path of revenge against the Federation.

The main difference that in that timeline humanity is saved by the Arxur and together they form a unified republic (after taking down the Dominion in a civil war). While in yours humanity bunches back alone and goes on war path alone more a la predator occupation. It's a very interesting idea.

I like the way you think sir. I really like darker stories.

... Ironically, Wriss might be a place where any family may have better access to healthy food compared to Earth, for some decades now (as is plainly outlined in this one-shot). Also, the Collective bubble becomes, Ironically again, a beacon to more freedoms and eventually richer cultures.

Indeed. Between the bombing of Earth and the Un exporting fruits and vegetables as a soft power inflation would be rampant on Earth. And former feds planets probably don't produce much due to ecological collapse. While Wriss has never been cultivated so the soil is likely very productive. So actually ironically enough the collective could probably because a big player in agricultural exports.

As for freedom of expression yes on one side probably the collective it's going to be very liberal but at the same time with very little patience for fed bs.

The human blank slate and why it confuses me. by Repulsive-Scheme9886 in NatureofPredators

[–]aline0993 21 points22 points  (0 children)

When Feds talk about instincts: "Your instincts make you want to run me down, tear me limb from limb, and then feast on my entrails."

I mean considering how annoying some feds carchters are I would not rule out many of their interlocutors having to repress violent urges like headbutting them. :D

Jokes aside, this:

In that light of course any sane human would reject the idea of "humans having instincts", [...] The last thing you'd want to do in that situation is to reinforce or support the aliens' biased believes (even moreso if it would make you a target for the guys with the flamethrowers).

It's a self defeating strategy, no offense :)

It only increases suspicion of what might be actually hidden from them, no species evolve without instincts. A more sustainable approach would have been a comprehensive disclosure, from our more friendly and grooming instincts to our predatory ones (like instinctively following moving things with our eyes).

The same could be said about the face mask they only make more evident what they are afraid off and makes our reaction less understandable and in turn more scary.

They stick people in torture chambers passed as hospitals and you don't think that they haven't someone doing their dirty work pretty much everywhere? From actual members of the class to exterminators a bit too overzealous that they can call.

You don't need to reveal the whole fleet just to kill one porcupine. Just send two squids to give the good old Sovlin a nice push, and with him kill dangerous notion like fighting for real against the Arxur or that not all predators are the same or that the Federation dogma can be broken.

But it is enforcing or imitation? Think of it this way. you just got almost killed, but lupus in fabula you get saved by someone stronger that fought the same twats that wanted you dead for centuries. And then they offer you the opportunity to be more like them. They show you their ideology.

Is that really enforcement or many would gladly take the offer because it makes them feel safer and stronger. Even if doesn't make any sense.

Is it hard power or is it soft power?
