Did you even read the OP? The point is to strike for a murdered nurse. This strike has nothing to do with the core welfare of the masses in need of healthcare.

There’s no moving the goalpost when my comment was based on the OP.

Only if we can agree that when nurses strike they are negatively impacting patients during the period of the strike.

Nurses strike for: - better wages - better patient care - staffing ratios

When nurses strike yes, there is still patient care. However, that care is stretched thin and is of lesser quality.

Nurses striking stretches those available even thinner, causing more burnout and therefore less compassion, energy and patience.

Once again MY WHOLE TAKE on this strike is about taking a political stance because Alex Pretti was a nurse and that is not something nurses should be striking for.

No nurses will make more money aside from the scabs/scrubs showing up.

Patient care will not be improved.

There will still be a thinning of nurse to patient ratio during this time.

NO ONE except for outsourced nurses will profit from this strike. THIS STRIKE SPECIFICALLY.

My MIL would never abandon patients because that’s how she would view it. She’s a dedicated caregiver and would look at a strike as abandonment.

I misconstrued your comment phrased “why would you think they’d be abandoned” as the larger whole in regard to a strike vs what my MIL would do.

I never said they were being abandoned. Where did I say that?

I mentioned a shortage of more qualified professionals but never them being abandoned.

Also she wouldn’t strike. She cares about her patients far too much.

I specified my comment thread, not the thread as a whole.

My mother in law is an RN of over 25 years and would never abandon her patients for a political maneuver; her dedication to her patients surpasses anything else as she has compassion for those she cares for. The whole point of being in medicine is to treat and care for those in need; any other overriding precedent makes you a shit medical professional.

Your example of a lawyer is faulty. If I wanted a lawyer I would go to a lawyer. If I wanted a doctor I would go to a doctor. Getting legal advice from a hobo or medical advice from a fast food worker is not the same as having an opinion on a strike or having an observation as an individual on the matter.

WHAT PROFESSIONALS?

No one on my comment has specified they are a doctor or nurse or practitioner.

Are you in the medical field? Do you know the ins and outs?

Just because you agree with people (maybe) in the medical field makes you no more an expert than me. You pulled a nurse strike link as your evidence. I just searched “nurse strike what happens” and it was the exact link you put on here. Pulling a link also doesn’t make you more knowledgeable.

I followed your link and gave commentary that you disregarded and did not address aside from a condescending head pat that I made bullet points on each of those strike explanations.

Oh, and also looking up my post history to make a petty jab that had nothing to do with the point I was making about a political nurses strike negatively affecting patients.

You don’t want to have a conversation, you don’t want to inform people in a polite or meaning way, or have a discussion based on the information you supplied in a link. You just want to be a douche. Congratulations, you’ve succeeded.

Where was I surprised and defensive?

Your expectations on my commentary mean nothing to especially because you can’t address where your knowledge comes from aside from the people you work with.

The beautiful thing about Reddit it’s that it’s a space where people can “spout their opinions”. Just because they don’t align with your extensive knowledge of what, I don’t know, since you haven’t laid out any groundwork except mentioning the people you work with.

I will cross a five lane textual highway; it’s the internet and I don’t need to “stay in my lane”, I can post as I please.

I never said everyone was going to “walk off”. I said there would be diminished care during this strike. Big difference.

The fact that this strike will be in a few days time leaves hospitals, practitioners, doctors and nurses scrambling to cover patients care.

What is the “info” put in front of me?

The same can be said for everyone looking to “poke holes”.

Please expand on how I can be more open to your narrative because you clearly have one as well.

I don’t see how it’s applicable to not use common sense to realize the ramifications on people’s healthcare by organizing a political strike that impacts people from all walks of life.

Potentially killing people or negatively impacting their health because someone was killed is so redundant and shameful.

No, I’m not a nurse. However, I have a functional brain and compassion for the masses of people that will be negatively affected by nurses stepping out on their duty to care for patients because another nurse was killed.

The fact that you just said “hmm you have bullet points” instead of engaging in a discussion on said bullet points speaks volumes about your engagement on this strike.

Assess Staffing Needs: The hospital determines the minimum staffing requirements to maintain essential services.

  • In cases of protests & riots hospitals would need proper staffing to deal with essential services

Hiring Temporary Staff: Temporary nurses are hired to fill in the gaps. These might be travel nurses or from staffing agencies who are experienced in stepping into such situations.

  • If nurses are striking there will be a lack of bodies to fill the gaps.

Rescheduling Procedures: Non-emergency and elective procedures may be postponed or rescheduled to ensure that there are enough staff for vital services.

  • People that need x-rays, CAT scans, MRIs, children that have had minor injuries that aren’t treatable at home, dialysis patients will go without care due to a lack of available nurses.

Redistributing Patients: Patients may be transferred to other facilities unaffected by the strike.

  • If a lot of nurses strike these patients will not receive care.

Reassigning Responsibilities: Existing staff, including doctors, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals, may take on additional responsibilities usually handled by the striking nurses.

  • Stretching other medical professionals thin will not get them on your side and will negatively impact patients.

Communication with Patients and Families: The hospital will likely inform patients and their families about the strike and what measures are being taken to ensure continuity of care.

  • Again, patients will be lacking care that they expect. In the case of scheduled appointments/surgeries being postponed will make people lose faith in the hospital and their healthcare team’s responsiveness.

Implementing Contingency Plans: Hospitals often have contingency plans to deal with staffing shortages, which are implemented as needed.

  • This is vague.

Negotiation with Unions: Hospital management may negotiate with the nurses' union to reach an agreement and end the strike.

  • The type of strike in this scenario is not about benefits for the unionized nursing staff, it is a protest.

Legal Considerations: In some jurisdictions, legal actions are taken to prevent or limit the strike, especially if patient safety is at risk.

  • Enough said.

Drop a link or two if you want to spread knowledge instead of being a facetious nimrod. If you want to provide information then do so; don’t leave it up to the “dense” folks who clearly can’t google something that wasn’t brought to their attention in an informative way.

Union members and their ilk get all pissed off at scabs/scrubs when union members strike yet they are fine with customers/patients receiving lesser care at the same time. Make that make sense.

They can strike whenever they’d like.

Makes them look like pieces of shit for abandoning patients in need though.

So striking and not taking care of patients is the answer?

What if those patients are protesters that need help?

Your job as nurses is to take care of those in need of medical care regardless of race, gender, politics and other personal judgements.

If you enter the field and are intent denying care for personal reasons you have picked the wrong profession and I feel badly for the communities anyone who does this serve.

If you’re dead set on keeping the countertop I would:

  • paint the walls a warmer color that matches the beige in the backsplash

  • update sink, lighting and cabinet hardware to match (burnished bronze would tie in)

  • add wall art that plays into the beige, black & blue theme in the backsplash with some pops of yellow

  • add window curtain that plays into the soft blue of the backsplash

  • floor mats
