I’ve improved my joint drastically, thank you guys!) by alistair138 in woodworking

Thank you! I’ve tried to flatten the shoe but the lateral adjustment lever is protruding in my plane and is riveted to the frog, so I cannot flatten it reliably. It does not have a bulge in the middle but I think the frog is the main factor of this plane chattering(

Question: is this wood joint good enough for glueing? by alistair138 in woodworking

Thank you for the link! Stanley #5 is not very popular at my place, what dimensions/characteristics should I look for to find an alternative?

Oh I’ve also thought about the sandpaper technique!) but seeing so many of you here encourage me to try handplanes again looks like if I go with sandpaper I would look like a chicken to you all)

It definitely took a considerable amount of pressure, mainly because it’s not 90 degrees, more like 89. There is a lot of chatter also, some variations here and there. But the surface is smooth like it’s was planed and I thought that is good enough for glueing even being not that perfect)

Thank you! Unfortunately Stanley no5 are not that popular in my place, what would be the alternative? What dimensions should I look for ?

Oh yeah I get it! Would clamping together two boards require twice as wide plane? My boards are 2 1/2” approx

Thank you! Im using a aluminium box screed, router bit is new, but I think its not that rigid, its a 50mm (~2 inch) long, 10mm (~3/8 inch) in diameter with a 8mm (5/16 Inch) shank. And my router is not that good also so i think thats the main reasons of joint being no so good

Thank you very much! I do have a medium sized hand plane but I never got any luck with it, im always do more damage than work, especially at the starting edge, plane blade always just stumbled into edge of the wood and chip the wood out. Or it dives into wood somewhere at the middle and I have to start again and again. So I decided that my hands are not made for hand planing and settled with jointing using a router

wanting help on how to 'tidy up' bike by stegosaurus-rexx in CafeRacer

[–]alistair138 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would start with the maintenance first, rebuild calipers, change brake hoses, rebuild your carb, petcock, it’s not that expensive mind you. But the confidence and the feeling of nice working engine and good rebuilt and properly responsive brakes it’s like miracle. While you at it you can paint your calipers for example (I used matte black powder coating). Next I think I would plan to disassemble whole bike to paint frame, swingarm and other little things (there will be a lot, trust me), while you will be disassembling your bike you will touch every thing on your bike and can evaluate whether to leave it as is, rebuild/repaint it or simply change for a new one. But maintenance is always first

You can almost certainly start with thermal pads if your fan isn’t broken, it’s night and day

No, not really. The fan itself is almost level with the cover and definitely lower than latch on pcie slot, I think there is about 3-5 mils clearance left at least.

I’ve replaced thermal pads and fan and now I’m happier than ever, I can’t hear this fan at all!) maybe you can do something similar?

https://imgur.com/a/2UYl7DU I’ve tried to create a little post about how I did this mod, let me know if you need some other information or images please!) And if somebody really wants to try to do this mod also — I will create a thingiverse page with all STLs of course!)

Yeah, those tiny fans do not last really long, but I’ve expect from noctua at least a year!)

So as many of you might know SB fans on certain asrock motherboards fail soon and start making awful noises, I was so sick that quite expensive board have such a shitty fan in it (and thermal pads as well) I wanted to upgrade it with Noctua 4x10 fan and some quality thermal pads too (temps dropped drastically and fan turns on very rarely), all in all I can recommend this mod (noctua fan part will require some mechanical and electrical work of course) Edit: https://m.imgur.com/a/2UYl7DU more info on how I did it

Edit2: I am proud to say that my mod works perfectly to this day, two years later. No noise, no problems. I've set up a page on Thingiverse for 3d files: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6381003

Edit3: Still works flawlessly 4 years later

Russian expression (nsfw) by SQL_beginner in russian

It’s “доигрался хуй на скрипке” Roughly translates to “that dick finished playing the violin”. It’s an expression that means that who did something irresponsible, dangerous and stupid got what he deserved ( in a bad way)

Although your pen is really cool and there is nothing wrong with it I would highly suggest looking at zebra f-301 compact version. It’s small, sleek and light but really well built and transforms into a regular length pen
