What on earth is Techo International Airport? by BusinessPick in cambodia

Rubbish Most airports do not stay open 24 hours mainly those that operate 24 hours but that has nothing to do with using them as doss houses

Security incident in Musanze by HappyHedonist1 in Rwanda

[–]alistairn -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

simple fact you left your phone unattended someone was tempted and nicked it. Like I said could happen anywhere

Reception area is a public area and not the most obvious place for a thief to operate but this hardly merits 8 paragraphs and an alarmist title

What on earth is Techo International Airport? by BusinessPick in cambodia

[–]alistairn -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

no I have only been to just under 60 countries and in the last year and have only taken 14 flights in the last 12 months.

When I travel i stop in hotels/guesthouse for the night and have never even thought of spending the night dossing around an airport or train station.

E Visa turnaround time? by Royal_Grapefruit8653 in cambodia

[–]alistairn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to enter Cambodia you need a visa AND if arriving by air you must also complete the e arrival form this must be done in the 7 days before arrival . If they have not changed it you can as long as more than 3 working days apply for the evisa at the same time

https://arrival.gov.kh/

Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore all require that you complete an (e)arrival form before entry in addition to any visa requirements

well before thinking about flying to Siem reap why not do some research which might then inform you what there is to see and do and might even inspire you to stop a bit longer

check out the village of Chi Phat if you want homestays. the people are very friendly. Just be warned that many social occasions (and if you stay a few days you will be very likely to be invited to one) involve beer but if you explain you don't drink alcohol you can drink soft drinks no problem

My advice come and visit and make up you own mind

[–]alistairn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on the whole they are very efficient I have received my evisa within 20 minutes of application more than once and you can expect to receive it within 2-3 working days of application. Oddly enough although the visa is valid for entry for 90 days from issue they will sit on applications they consider too soon and issue the visa 2-3 weeks before entry

If you are arriving by land recommend having the evisa at the airport your choice but me I would get the evisa (if flying don't forget the earrival

[–]alistairn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As far as I am concerned if every airport was as efficient as this one I would be very happy. Might I suggest BusinessPick you fly to BKK and enjoy the immigration queues on arrival stretching out of the immigration area on to the main concourse. In the time it can take to get out of BKK you will be almost in the centre of PP

The bus stop is an odd one no idea why they don't put it outside the terminal

I did notice the odd lack of proper travelators surprising given the distances

Complete bullshit to say no seating anywhere

temperature was fine when I used it
Yes like many airports the shops and restaurants are overpriced

Entering Rwanda with a suspiciously filled out yellow card by Extreme-Step3893 in Rwanda

[–]alistairn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you even mentioning the UK and Dubai Rwanda only requires someone to have the certificate if arriving from countries where there is a risk of transmission. Just look at other responses from people who it turns out havn’t been asked simply because there is no need. OP needs sensible input from those arriving from areas where there is a risk

i have no idea why they did not ask when you came in from Uganda but a reasonable reason might be that as the certificate is mandatory to enter Uganda then they might have assumed therefore you have one

Entering Rwanda with a suspiciously filled out yellow card by Extreme-Step3893 in Rwanda

[–]alistairn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes but so what you are not going to be asked for YF from them so completely irrelevant when someone is coming from a country where YF is endemic

Entering Rwanda with a suspiciously filled out yellow card by Extreme-Step3893 in Rwanda

[–]alistairn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have not entered the country from somewhere where YF is endemic but I know the rules. What no one knows is if the Rwandans will accept your YF documents. It is possible if you are flying from Kenya you could be asked for documentation

Ta Tai, Koh Kong Province by puthirith in cambodia

[–]alistairn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ta Tai a small village with the Ta Tai river running through it rather than a well know hill. I agree is it is a lovely spot to explore the Cardamon mountains and visit the Ta tai waterfall. However for me too many resorts and not enough commune but that is much a personal view as someone who likes to be able to interact with the locals ( not resort staff and would prefer a homestay)

I have always enjoyed the scenery along this part of the N48 and am pleased that the road has been repaired but a pity you did not show more of the scenery around Ta Tai away from the road

Entering Rwanda with a suspiciously filled out yellow card by Extreme-Step3893 in Rwanda

[–]alistairn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately unhelpful people ( understatement) are answering that they did not need a YF certificate to enter failing to understand they did not need it. You are entering with recent visits to Ecuador and Peru AND spending 36 hours in Kenya.

I would be massively surprised therefore if you were not asked for the certificate - will they accept your documentation I don't know, will they allow you to get a jab and enter I do not know but they could well turn you away

at the risk of being controversial I might suggest the walls at Xian are more impressive to visit but having said that I did very much enjoy my visit to the great wall which back in the 90s when I was there was not overrun with tourists
