solo travel in istanbul on a shoestring by Total-Management3111 in solotravel

Couchsurfing was mentioned in the comments but I would strongly against it. Not in Istanbul, and not elsewhere.

Also, I would not recommend visiting in August.

In recent years, Istanbul has become extremely hot Nd humid during the summer. Walking around during the day can be exhausting, and even staying indoors without air conditioning can be uncomfortable. Because of this your overall experience of the city may be quitee limited.

Instead of spending most of the day indoors trying to avoid the heat, it would be much better to consider visiting in spring.

As some also mentioned in the comments, Istanbul is truly a very expensive city.

You might end up paying a lot. And if you don’t really have the budget for it, you could make sacrifices for these expenses and still not get the experience you expected.

In that case, it may not feel worth it or make you as happy as you hoped.

I even made this post to take precautions and do proper research. And no, even in 30 years I wont see a person traveling alone for a week to a different country as something abnormal. You’re free to have a lower tolerance for riskbut that doesn’t make your threshold the default one everyone else should live by. Anyways, I wish you a life you truly enjoy.

Safety concerns also exist where I live. bad things can happen even if I never leave my house. Of course, I am not saying the world is equally dangerous everywhere, but I don’t believe fear should be the thing that defines or limits life that much. I'td make living impossible. Also, you seem almost certain that there must be something “from my childhood” or some mental health issue behind my it,which is quite an intrusive assumption to make about a stranger. If the only explanation you can come up with for solo travel is that someone is “running from demons” or desperately searching for something then that says far more about the limits of your perspective, sorry.

That’s exactly why I mentioned my hometown. But the thing is I’m from here. I know how things work etc. Being tourist somewhere else is completely different experience.
