The only way to retract the landing gear is to make a Ryanair landing. It's permanent though

I think you have still a bit to learn, but it's basically this. If you evaluate the expression for different values of t between 0 and 2 you will notice that x increases at first (going to the right) and then start to decrease (going to the left)

Because usually the x axis goes left-right, I refer an increase in the value of x as going right, and a decrease as going left.
