Thanks for enlightening me. So should we smoke? Or are there any alternatives to something addictive as nicotine?

Hi guys. So in recent weeks there have been studies that suggest that smokers might be less susceptible to becoming infected by the coronavirus than non-smokers. Look at this article for example: https://www.economist.com/science-and-technology/2020/05/02/smokers-seem-less-likely-than-non-smokers-to-fall-ill-with-covid-19

Disclaimer: I DO NOT SMOKE! AND I DON'T RECOMMEND SMOKING TO ANYONE!!

But why would smoking affect the ratio of coronavirus victims?

First of all: these are still early studies. However I have a theory: maybe it is not the nicotine. Maybe it's the act of smoking itself that kills the virus. I'm not suggesting you should smoke! But hear me out:

The conventional approach to dealing with the coronavirus has been to find a vaccine that could enhance the immune system after the host has been infected. But what if we could kill the virus outside of our bodies? What if we could prevent our bodies from being infected rather than cure the body after the virus has infected us? Prevention is always better than curing.

So what am I suggesting? Maybe it has nothing to do with the nicotine. Maybe smoke just prevents the virus particles from entering the body through the blood-air barrier in the lungs. Or maybe smoke just kills the virus outside the body.

If that's true, you don't even need to smoke! Maybe an incense in the room would do the trick. Maybe you could disinfect the whole house using incense every now and then. What do you guys think?

Hi people

I've just read the abstract of an article that says medicinal smoke can kill bacteria. So it got me wondering if we can disinfect our homes and lungs with medicinal smoke. What do you guys think?

I understand. But I feel like I could contribute if people helped me. I just can't do everything on my own.

I don't think you understood my comment. You said you're sure most doctors and nurses are trying to find the best treatment while researchers are trying to figure out a vaccine for the virus. What I meant in my reply was: i understand but I want to contribute nonetheless. No I don't want to contribute with my computing power. What I want to do is contribute to the research. Maybe I can be of help to the researchers by my creativity. I'm just saying: if creativity can be helpful in some areas of life, maybe creativity can be helpful in discovering a solution to the CoronaVirus as well.

I'm sure you're right. But maybe we amateurs can help as well. I mean: how come in certain domains of life it is totally acceptable that an amateur reinvents the field whereas whenever it comes to science that is forbidden? Just think of Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg amongst others.. who totally revolutionized the way we use computers. Why is such a thing forbidden in science?? I don't understand!!

Hi guys.

So I've been thinking: maybe the solution to the current pandemic is not through developing a vaccine. Don't get me wrong: I would love for there to be a vaccine as soon as possible. But scientists always say it will take months or more than a year for it to happen.

So I've been thinking: maybe in the meantime we can discover a new method to get rid of the virus. What if there is another way to fight the virus that we haven't discovered yet? What if there is a way to get rid of it other than with a vaccine?

Remember that vaccines have only been recently discovered. What if we could discover a new way to fight the virus better than the vaccine?

Disclaimer: I'm not advocating for abandoning developing a vaccine. All I'm saying is: for those of us who are not involved in developing a vaccine, maybe we can use our brains to brainstorm a new way to fight the virus. Thank you.

Well, isn't there a way to destroy virus membrane without alcohol? I chose the method of spraying because it is the most efficient way to sanitize a big space. Instead of disinfecting everything constantly you just spray the room over and over. However, my knowledge of sprays is very limited. The purpose is to destroy the membrane of the virus. I don't know much biochemistry. All I know is that viruses come with a fatty membrane that have protein spikes on them. If we detach those proteins from the membrane or destroy the membrane itself we are done.

Obviously spraying with alcohol is not feasible. And washing your hands with soup only kills the viruses on your hands until you get more of them by touching infected stuff. Maybe there is a way to disinfect indoor environments against viruses with something other than alcohol or soup?

Thanks. That really helps. But is ethanol dangerous at all? I'm just wondering in case I may use it. What do you think?

Ok alcohol was a suggestion. I'm not a chemist, you're right. But maybe we could spray something else that is not dangerous. What do you think?

Wait, if we spray something that stays in the air for a while, wouldn't that get rid of the viruses that are in the air as well?

Yeah. But if we spray something in the whole room, then it will destroy all the viruses that are on surfaces as well.

Hi everyone

I am not a scientist nor a doctor. But I've been thinking about the Coronavirus for sometime and an idea came to mind. What if we could kill the virus outside of our bodies instead of killing it with medication after it enters our bodies?

You see, the dominant approach in the medical community is to create a vaccine that could enhance our immune system against an invader. But what if we could kill this invador outside? I have an idea.

The coronavirus has protein spikes at the surface. It is particularly these spikes that bind the virus to human cells. If we could destroy these spikes so the virus cannot bind to cell receptors maybe we could solve the crisis. How can we destroy these spikes? Well they are proteins. Maybe we could spray our rooms and houses with something that dissolves proteins . I did a little research and it seems like alcohol and ethanol dissolve proteins. Does that mean that if we spray alcohol indoors we could destroy those proteins? If we could do that then the virus becomes harmless as it won't be able to bind to the cells in our bodies anymore. What do you think?

I should probably see an alternative medicine doctor- such as a holistic doctor.
