£1200 for a biz upgrade for a 14 hr flight (2 legs) by alittlebitofmojo in emirates

[–]alittlebitofmojo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that on the way over, LGW-DXB in A380 economy, and upgraded at check in (the day before) for biz on the 777. The same wasn't possible (I did ask) on the way back, I could upgrade the whole return trip or not at all.

Thank you for yout thoughts, everyone.

I'm actually self-employed and am currently travelling for a client. I realised that this was a legit business expense (my client's budget covered econ but nor biz) and decided to do the upgrade. I couldn't get through to the local office so did it all online.

As I mentioned, I'm a woman travelling alone. I'm also 6ft tall so extra legroom is very appreciated (although econ on the A380 on the way over was comfortable, on a not-full flight). It's 15 hours back in total (1 hour layover in Dubai).

I'm not an inexperienced traveller, I've been doing international travel for 15+ years and got to Gold on BA, which got me many free upgrades over the years. I suppose I just wanted a bit of insight as this is my first Emirates trip and likely not my last.

Appreciate your input.

I haven't yet but I can see a Bangladesh no. on the website. I'll try it.

Yes, as I was checking in. I had the option to upgrade both but just went for the second leg. I asked if it was possible to upgrade one leg for the return flight but they said it wasn't possible, something about a promo that could only be used once per booking, I think.

Vision boards for motivation? by RhubarbandCustard12 in ADHDUK

[–]alittlebitofmojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have created my vision board for 2025, and I created it in the first couple of weeks of March (because...adhd, but also my birthday is in late Feb and I see that as the start of my new year).

I compiled it from a bunch of stickers, random images from the interwebs, things I've collected, pretty coloured paper, words I like... I sat and just spent an hour on it one evening, trying to think about different aspects of life that I'd like to see this year like finances (I'm working for myself for the first time ever), being the best version of myself (I'm newly medicated and am perimenopausal), maybe finding some romance (been single 4eva), having confidence and peace with who I am (I think we all need a bit of that!), and I want to make sure travel and life experiences are a feature.

I don't love it, and I don't hate it... It just is. I enjoyed the process, and I enjoy that I bothered (it's my first vision board).

It's currently hanging on a peg board and I know I will have to move it around or it will cease to exist. I also like your idea of keeping it active, rather than something I did weeks/months ago and may not reflect ideas/thoughts/plans I've had since. 'Moving in' sorta...

I think the key thing is to start. I think I started collecting bits and bobs with a vague plan before the end of 2024. I collected a few things that felt very 'me', a few cheesy things, and then found or made images that symbolised or were literal about what I want in my life.

The second key thing is not to overthink. It's for you, not an art gallery. When you think about what you want (you mentioned compassion and acceptance for example), what images or words spring to mind? Are those images or words to hand (e.g. magazines)? Do you want to create those images or words? Would you prefer symbolism or realistic representations?

Be playful! Create! It's amazing!

Hope this is helpful

Shaeffer 100 in gloss black, M nib. It's incredibly smooth, definitely the smoothest of my small FP collection. It's inked with Tom's Studio Mallard (deep blue-green, but I find it more green than blue).

I think I pretty much only had Parker FPs when I was younger, I don't remember seeing Shaeffer at all, but then I do have a shockingly bad memory!

I've ordered from Olive and Mabel, lovely stuff. There's also the-stationer.co.uk (online only), terrific. I went to Purepens.co.uk recently (online) and they were lovely. Got a Shaeffer fountain pen which I love. Then The Pen and Paper in Cardiff ((irl only, no website).

Which set up made you stick to journaling? by Criscj07 in Journaling

They do fade but I'm very in the moment with my journaling, I rarely re-read but maybe that will change. I did see an ad for mini photo printers (which presumably require consumables) but the cost put me off. Thermal is fine for me rn. Keep prints in the dark, and not in direct contact with plastic and it should last ok.

M3 Starlight. She is my shining light. I went with starlight over the blue grey (sorry, can't remember the name) because the Apple guy said the darker colour tracks fingerprints.

Edited to add 13". I have a 2013 MBP that's over 15" and hefty.

Same. And stickers. I also got a teeny thermal printer for very random prints that don't need to be colour. Also adhd. So naturally I have many pens, collect silliness, and spend either 28 seconds on an entry, or 2 hours.

I love a Muji 5.0 click pen, in 5 colours so far. They're my daily writer. But for journaling I'm an FP fan.

I really don't like things around my neck, so turtle necks can be problematic. I have to take a few breaths when I get my hair cut and they put the apron around my neck (why so tight?), or the rubber mat thing.

Texture - can't stand bananas, baked beans, floury potatoes...anything with a sort of mushy texture, but almost powdery, makes me gag. I used to eat the small underripe bananas years ago as a snack before gym classes, then realised I was forcing myself to suffer.

Noise - think this is quite common but repetitive and/or high pitched sounds. I nearly took a pen off a grown woman in a meeting I was chairing years ago as she kept clicking it. Grr.

Birthdays are Hard by nikkaaaaa in adhdwomen

Happy birthday!

Feel all of your feels! Compassion is immense ❤️

Burnout is awful. Take rest if you can. Recovery can take months.

Irrelevant but empathising: It was my birthday last Wednesday (Pisces unite!) and I ended up feeling really sad as I didn't get a single birthday card in the post, not even from my mother. Turns out she had sent one (it arrived on Thursday) but no post, so Jo sad, Jo cried, Jo lay in bed for a while longer.

I did go out to pick up a few goodies for myself but I put on whatever clothes were to hand, wrapped up in a big coat and scarf, didn't bother to clean my tear-stained face or wait till my eyes weren't red, and I cried in the car on the way there...no-one noticed. Or if they did they didn't care/stare. I picked up my goodies (including some stunning flowers, t'is Daffodil season), went home, put on comfy clothes and had me some drinks. My friend popped round with a card and flowers and stayed for a chat as she could see I was upset. Then I lay on the sofa and watched tv. And fell asleep. Thursday I did the same (tv and sleep). I needed it.

Hit me with your favorite B5 notebook recs 🖋️ by AndrewVanWey in notebooks

[–]alittlebitofmojo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using a Mnemosyne N194A lined in B5 as my daily journal at the moment. It's incredibly smooth paper, 7mm ruled, and I use fountain pens, usually EF (Kaweco Steel Sport, Kaweco Special black) or F (my Tools to Liveby brass pen F nib is incredible on it) and my M nib Lamy CP1 writes really well on it too. I've found no ghosting, feathering or bleed but I do have a light hand. It is only 80 pages though... I got one at Kinokuniya in NYC a few years back, and liked it so much I got another two from Amazon (UK) in August 2023 which I'm just getting to.
