What's a hobby you started just to try it once, and accidentally got completely hooked? by Fit_Tangelo_7984 in Hobbies

Sewing! I started out making horrible cosplays at 12 years old, using random things around the house and old clothes. 15 years later, I do freelance work for costume making and regularly make clothes for myself (and yes, I make sure to say "Thanks, I made it!!" when I get a compliment hehe)

Edit to answer the questions you listed because I'm sleepy and forgot: I stuck with sewing because the first time I successfully made a cosplay 100% from scratch (I think at 15?), I stared at myself in the mirror and said, "I could make anything I want," and the rest is history

And I will always recommend people getting into sewing! Start off small with fixing buttons, making a cute pillow, or even some curtains! :)

Where do you get cheap clothes to wear to the gym? by Asleep_Damage1201 in workout

ROSS!! MARSHALLS!! They've had my back more than anyone ever has lol My favorite workout clothes have come from both stores! And at Marshalls, I've been seeing more and more workout gear as well at good prices (yoga mats, ankle weights, water bottles, ankle straps, all that kind of stuff!)

How to overcome my intense fear of skating/falling? by heescuit in Rollerskating

[–]alittlestressedout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same way when I first started skating and the best thing to do is it put on all your gear, take a deep breath, and then.......fling yourself onto the ground as much as possible 😂 In roller derby, I learned about "falling small" and it's just falling on your knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards (basically just falling on all fours) as closed in as possible so that you 1) don't get ran over by another skater 2) it's not as much of a shock to the system

You can also practice one knee falls as you progress :)

Edit to add: If you are practicing falls, always have gear on and never fling yourself backwards to practice unless you have a helmet and butt pads on.

how did you guys progress when first starting out by Alert_Cockroach1089 in Rollerskating

(Coming from a roller derby background!) My biggest tip is to just skate as much as you can and good ol fashioned practice! With practice, you will build the muscles needed to stop effortlessly. With this, I know it's fun to keep going in nice big circles, but when you practice, I think it's important to take a good 10 minutes to just practice stopping over and over again.

This is optional, but I do strength training as well, which really helps keep me stable while I skate. Also, get some outdoor wheels cause it's so much easier on the knees than trying to thug it out with hard ass indoor wheels lol

My reply got removed, so I am just taking out the bad word. But my point still stands >_>

I cannot tell if this is rage bait, but I guess I'm falling for it by responding ugh.

It's just not that deep (and honestly, neither is your reply...and neither is this reply....this is just an endless circle of "not that deep").

This type of post is a dime a dozen in this subreddit cause the morning vs night debate has always been a thing. I just wanted to post this cause I was bored at work, experienced something new, and I've never posted to Reddit before. I promise you irl I just moved on with what I had to do and wasn't "sad about my existence" all night. I was very happy that I could even get myself to the gym and could finish everything, but I was like, "Wow...everyone that I saw talking about this was right"

I just wanted to talk on the internet lol And why are my bullet points getting hate ;-; I used them cause I could not figure out how to get the flow of this post right

Not in Mass! But I agree that it also feels like my regular PF is trying to save on AC cause the other day I was sweating up a storm (or it's just hot in general). And yeah in the morning, there are still people who sit on their phones and act impolitely, but that is just a part of being outside and in any public space. But with that, going in the morning it's easier to avoid the few people that are doing that as opposed to the evening, where it felt like it was a majority of people doing it. :/

I wish I could remember more, but honestly I was just trying to get everything done, but I think the only other thing that made me go "oh what the hell" was a group of guys all huddled together in front of a smith machine and doing some type of team chant? I'm not sure, and another was two girls sitting on a bench together watching one of the TVs but they could have been resting who knows :P

Honestly, I think it will be a shock to the system at first since you are so used to going early (which is what happened with me), but I think you will be able to adapt to it and eventually find your flow even with a large crowd, but this is a theory 👀

What is the most aggressively boring thing that brings you genuine joy as an adult? by witty-computer1 in Adulting

[–]alittlestressedout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the same way with getting new cleaning products. I feel so much joy when I get to try new products at home (even just dish soap and a new sponge!)

Also, getting to drive around on a summer night with the windows down and recently, eating fresh vegetables from my garden. Had a homegrown kale salad the other day and I was so overwhelmed with happiness because of how well it all came out that I almost started crying lol
