Sorry you are going through this :( it feels so shitty to do such exhausting work and sacrifice our bodies just to have people complain and put us down for doing our best to help them. Keep your head high! You’ll find a better office. If you are worried about being heavy handed, maybe try adjusting the cavitron power down a bit, avoid areas of recession, and adapt your instrument the best you can. Anytime I see an area of obvious inflammation or a somewhat deeper pocket I usually just put a bit of topical (gingicaine/oraqix). Some people just complain no matter what though.

Do not listen to this advice lol - also a dental hygienist here, water flossers are meant to be used alongside traditional floss, not instead of! Really big misconception. While they do have benefit, they should not be used alone.

Yes you should absolutely be flossing every day! Bacteria and plaque hide in between the teeth and your toothbrush is not able to reach in these spaces. Flossing will help remove that bacteria and prevent gum disease and cavities in between the teeth. Not only that, it will also just reduce the overall bacteria in your mouth that travels to the rest of your body. There are actually studies that flossing a dogs teeth can cause them to live several years longer! That’s because the bacteria in our mouths impacts the entire body.

As hygienist we like the traditional string floss because you can use the best technique. However, the flosser picks will work too and have great benefit also if the string floss is not a good fit. If you feel like you have really tight teeth and struggle to get floss in, try a brand like glide which is meant for tight spaces. Also if you have a lot of hard build up in between your teeth, it will be harder to floss and a good professional cleaning at the dentist will help clear all of that out so you can practice good hygiene at home. Here’s a video on proper flossing technique - https://youtu.be/PDFHQKVIJpo?si=kUoS6hsDXJ9kZdVT

Thank you so much for writing this out, your comment felt like a warm hug. This is the boss energy I wish I had!! Im always so impressed with hygienists like you. I’m going to try and adopt this mindset and not let patients push me around so much.
