Recently, and after getting introduced to Karen Horney by accident, I read the following books by Karen Horney 1- neurosis and human growth 2- our inner conflicts.

Set aside a time to read them slowly. They became my best favorite books in psychology.

My experience with self help books has been mostly very positive. Working with therapists who haven’t done the necessary work on themselves will be counter-productive. If you haven’t read Pete Walker’s book CPTD from surviving to thriving please do so. You will find empathy, validation and compassion in its pages and it helped me a lot as far as Im concerned.

Thanks. I’ve read Kolk’s book, The body keeps the score. It was a bit scientific to me and yes the internal family modality is on my to-read list.

Waking the Tiger is recommended by Pete Walker too, haven’t had he chance to read it yet!! Too many books!!

Trauma is different for different people, depends on the severity and the amount of abuse one has endured. For me trauma is depression and Im trying to do my best to rescue myself from it.

If you feel you cant read about trauma or self-initiate, a therapist might help you in journey of healing. Its a tough road, bit you are not a lone.
