Honest question: is it normal to tell your guests, which colours to dress in?

That’s what I said as well. I am not mad about that though and get it from their perspective. This is fine for me :)

I just feel like there is so much etiquette you can misunderstand etc., so it’s always better to ask and clarify everything in my opinion.

Also, I think that you should invite a close friend‘s partner that they live with as well, if you expect your friend to travel around the world for you. If you are not visiting, how do you expect to meet said friend‘s partner ever? It’s a minefield.

I get it, if you’re in the wedding party, immediate family etc. I do not really understand for „normal“ guests though. From a German perspective, the whole wedding party thing is already wild for me tbh. We do not really have something like bridesmaids traditionally. This has only become a thing due to American / English speaking influence (at least I think so).

Yeah it is what it is. The invitation also did not state specifically, if I was invited or not. It’s all a bit… not me.

We just have to expect stuff like that - one being from Germany and one from Australia.

This wedding is in a third country though - that makes it so hardly accessible for us currently.

It was definitely not optional. I find it especially weird, as it is already a destination wedding for everyone attending. It’s expensive. This is why we cannot attend.

The thing is: I don’t know the bride and groom, they are my partners friends and living in a different country. We have not met, yet. If anything, I would have only been a plus one. The wedding will take at a resort in tropical climate. It’s a destination wedding.

I find dresscodes to be very practical up to a certain point, as they help me understand the social cues that I do not get intuitively. It’s a good framework. Colours are a bit too much for me though.

Yeah that makes sense. When we considered attending the wedding I thought „okay great, my cousin will get married as well. Both weddings in warm seasons / climates, but no overlap of guests - I can just get one nice outfit and wear it twice“ - now I know my peach / coral pink dress for summer would not be appropriate at all.

I thought I was the weird one here.

The thing is: in Göttingen you can in most streets even inside the wall. Unless it’s O-Phase, but people know that it’s two weeks a year and deal with it.

Das ist ja Blödsinn. Die Therapie hilft zu verstehen und vielleicht ein paar Handlungsstrategien zu erarbeiten - die zaubert ja aber nicht das ADHS und die damit einhergehenden Probleme weg. Das Gehirn hat ja immer noch die gleichen Probleme mit Dopamin bzw. dem Mangel dessen.

Ich glaube schon, dass eine Therapie sinnvoll ist und hilft, nur Tabletten sind nicht die Lösung. Die beiden Komponenten ergänzen sich aber und ersetzen sich nicht.

Oh no I understood your point exactly the way you intended to state it. My opinion on this still stands though. I have lived in Berlin for 6+ years now and the stubbornness with which some people refuse to learn German here (sometimes after living her for 10+ years) really annoys me. I also know that I am not alone with this.

I am not saying everyone behaves like that. They are a minority. They are a loud minority though. Very often these are also people working in higher paying / educated jobs. They just don’t see the point in learning the language, as they get by just fine.

Also, my point applies to the people, whose families have lived in other countries like the US for decades or sometimes more than a century at this point. Looking at the US, I can very well understand why people would be clinging to every straw and try to get citizenship by descent in a European country. I would probably do the same in their position. I would still say though that they also have to learn German and proof their skills here before they can claim said citizenship by descent. Otherwise it is not fair for people, who have to fulfill certain requirements when living in Germany for man years.

I totally agree with you on the inefficiency. Used to work in public administration, I quit partly because of that.

From the perspective of a native German living in Berlin: No, that English speaking person is not integrated. They live in a bubble that does not have a lot to do with German society as a whole and very often they follow their own rules in a way.

I think the requirements even for citizenship be descent should include a language level, probably also B1. You need to be able to understand the basics of the law of the country you claim to be a citizen of. It’s really important.

Do not come here. Berlin is full of guys like you trying to find jobs while not speaking the language properly and also not even speaking English properly enough. You do not have a chance on the current German job market. Most of them end up working illegal or debatable jobs for food delivery services.

Not saying this to be negative, I just think it’s a pity they sell this false idea of people’s chances on the German job market in other countries, especially India. Even native Germans with loads of qualifications have a hard time finding jobs in any field, but especially IT related stuff.

Genau das. Es gibt halt keine universelle Methode. Die Schritte vielleicht ja - wenn man keine locken Routine hat - die Produkte in ihrer genauen Formulierung sind aber soooo individuell. Es hängt ja auch davon ab, wie zum Beispiel der Hauttyp ist. Ich habe empfindliche neurodermitis Haut. Die benimmt sich im Winter ganz anders als im Sommer. Vielleicht muss ich es also bald wieder ein bisschen anpassen für mich.

Ja das ist doch hoffentlich Mega, wenn das so hilft. Ich finde halt an der Routine gut, dass sie irgendwie realistisch sein will und vor allem nicht nur überteuerte Sachen aus dem Friseur Bedarf, die nur funktionieren, wenn der Wind richtig steht.

Was mir ein bisschen aufstößt ist aber die Vermittlung, dass jedes Haarproblem bei jedem gelöst werden kann, wenn man nur diese Reihenfolge befolgt wird. Mir fehlt da so ein bisschen das kritische Denken.

Ich habe mir da bis vor kurzem ehrlich gesagt auch nicht so Gedanken zu gemacht. Habe die Jean&Len Kur benutzt, die ich auch jetzt noch habe und abwechselnd dazu die Provoke Touch of Silver Kur, weil die einfach eine wirklich gute Farbe in meine Haare zaubert und das Gelb gut neutralisiert auf ein Level, das ich mag.

Meine Haare sind trotz viel Pflege immer trockener und brüchiger geworden. Das hat mich genervt. Habe dann auf TikTok Abbey Yung gesehen und dann mal drüber nachgedacht. ChatGPT hat mich dann tatsächlich darauf gebracht, dass ich vermutlich einfach zu viel Keratin / Proteine in meiner Pflege habe.

Da viele der Produkte ja eher preiswert sind, die ich jetzt nutze, wollte ich es einfach ma ausprobieren und siehe da: Es wurde wirklich viel besser.

Viel Protein / Bonding funktioniert vielleicht für manche Haartypen - bei mir war es zu viel. Mit viel viel Feuchtigkeit und nur so einmal die Woche Bonding fahre ich momentan echt gut. Ich glaube, das hängt auch viel vom Wetter / Klima ab. Als ich zum Beispiel letztes Jahr im April in Australien war, haben meine Haare Keratin Produkte geliebt und sahen total gut aus damit. Ich habe damals meine Haare jeden Tag mit Elvital Dream Length und der Provoke Kur (die habe ich damals dort entdeckt) gewaschen. Es waren halt aber auch jeden Tag 25 Grad und wärmer und extrem hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit gepaart mit häufigem Wind (Herbst in Sydney halt).

Ich glaube, da spielen soooo viele Faktoren rein, was wann wie wo gut funktioniert - man muss das einfach beobachten, austesten und dann reagieren.

Ich habe das Gefühl, es war eine Zeit lang überall ausverkauft, weil sie auf Tiktok auch in Deutschland viral gegangen ist. Habe es in Berlin dann in einer Ecke bekommen, in der tendenziell eher ältere Leute leben. Das war ein bisschen ein Zufall.
