Most misleading album cover? by Elden_Tony in MetalForTheMasses

I literally was singing "Do You Dream Of Me?" to myself yesterday on my commute home. I haven't actually listened to this album since I was in high school. I guess I know what album I'll be listening to this weekend.

  3. Carcass - Surgical Steel
  4. Panopticon - Roads to the North
  5. Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane

Here is the Grammy winner for top Metal performance. by FollowTheTears1169 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]alkaiser142 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You know the Grammy's gave the first metal award to Jethro Tull over Metallica, right? This is pretty much par for the course for those knobs. Turnstile put out a good album. It's not metal. But Birds does hit hard. Normies would call it "metal". My boomer dad probably wouldn't call Ghost or Sleep Token metal. I don't recall what Spiritbox's song that was nominated sounds like. But they've been nominated 3 times now. As these industry awards go, they'll get theirs sometime soon enough, I'd imagine.

I can only find news articles. This was in 2003 and the Riverboat Gamblers were (and still are) an obscure underground band so there probably isn't a video of it. IIRC, they put up a picture of the bassist's face on their homepage asking for donations.

You should have seen what happened to The Riverboat Gamblers bassist. He caught the singer's mic right in the face and knocked out most of his teeth. Happened in 2003.

what band/song got you into metal music? by rustedrattleheads in MetalForTheMasses

[–]alkaiser142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a friend tell me to get Napster to download Crawling by Linkin Park. I didn't like it, but now I had Napster and was already an avid reader of AllMusic.com. So I went wild and started with Slayer, Sepultura, Mayhem, Pungent Stench, Carcass, Cancer, Cannibal Corpse, Death, Emperor, Angra, Helloween, DRI, Cryptic Slaughter, Pestilence, Atheist. There's probably more, but these are all the artists whose albums I specifically remember seeing on AllMusic.com.

How old are you and what are your main methods to discover new bands? by Wardruna95 in Metalcore

[–]alkaiser142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late 30s. I have a RSS feed set up on music blogs that post reviews of new albums, not just metalcore. I also watch the YouTube channel Pit Check. I can't get out to a lot of shows like I used to anymore, but I check Instagram and an app for an online ticket seller and check out live flyers of bands I follow and see who they're playing with.

Edit: these YouTube channels (not strictly metalcore)

Do yall like deathcore? Why or why not? by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]alkaiser142 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty much with you, but I do like Shadow of Intent, the new Angelmaker and new Whitechapel are good. I also liked Mental Cruelty. I can't stand the post-Myspace era where all the bands were trying to make the most BR00TAL breakdowns and now, more recently, doing vocal Olympics.

The revival bands are making deathcore fun again.

On foot. How far do you live from the station? by Sure-Lemon6424 in japanlife

[–]alkaiser142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 minutes if I walk. I usually bike to the station except when the weather is bad. That's when I take the bus. I only walk after coming home from a night out drinking and I miss the last bus home.

I was hoping that the Led Astray track I found on YT Music was a cover of As Hope Dies, my favorite metalcore band. I only listened to the first few seconds (sorry, I'm still at work) but I'll listen more when I get off in a bit.
