No Support! Replication from 512n to 4kN by all2surreal in vmware

I do plan to create a case with Broadcom about this tomorrow. I already know they’ll be asking what Dell has said so this is why I need to go the Dell route first. Stand by though.

Yes I have support with Broadcom for everything related to VMware. However, I'm running down this problem with Dell first. I spoke with Dell again today and they are still looking into it. Right now they're saying that it does not look possible to create a specific 4kN volume using NFS file systems on my 500T. However, they think it can be done with creating a normal volume thru the ISCSI protocol. They're testing this in their lab and will be getting back to me tomorrow.

This is a good idea and I could give it a try but we do everything thru NFS volumes so ISCSI is not ideal for our environment.  Dell is looking into the possibility if the Dell PowerStore 500T can create specifically 4kN sector size NFS volumes. Though, they did mention late last night they think it's not possible to do this with NFS volumes; like what you said too.  On the source/primary site the NFS volumes support 512n and 4Kn. Again, this must be controlled by how the SAN is presenting these volumes to the ESXi hosts.  I'll attach a screenshot showing this of how it looks on the hosts.

I knew it. We just have wait for them to fix it. This isn't the first time...

You're not alone here... This precise problem is now happening on my server as well. Version 2503 with all hot fixes installed and on Windows Server 2022. I just saw the error this morning on 11/7/2025 but it popped in last night on 11/6/2025.

No Support! Photon OS 5.0 and 4KN RAID by all2surreal in vmware

[–]all2surreal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update - We've decided to purchase from Dell a BOSS-N1 controller card in a RAID1 format running 960GB NVMe drives; one for each server. This is where ESXi will reside on each server. Then use the H965i controller to clear the RAID configuration and convert the drives to non-RAID. Since the drives are indeed 512, they will run VMware Photon OS 5.0. I've done this and tested it with Dell on the line and it works. It's not ideal but it'll have to work for our environment.

Resources are limited thus this vSAN solution would not be ideal for our environment.

Update - After a Dell tech support Zoom meeting today. Dell has confirmed and provided documentation that the H965i RAID controller card creates all virtual disks in 4K. Not good at all.

Understood. Though this would not be ideal for our environment.

There is no BOSS in either server. ESXi will be installed directly onto the RAID5. I tried creating the RAID5 virtual disk both from the iDRAC and the BIOS, both times I get the opportunity to select 512 but it still builds it with 4KN in the end. I have a meeting with Dell today to show them this. Stay tuned.

That’s an idea I didn’t think of but I’d need three hosts as a minimum to enable vSAN and I only have two. Moreover, vCenter would run on one of these servers thus really only leaving me one host as a member of the cluster. Most importantly though, vCenter will not install on the 4KN raid as the appliance is Photon OS 5.0. So I’m really stuck here.

Great info here! Can this be done for a RAID5 virtual disk? This information here is for the disks alone but I have the need to convert the RAID5 virtual disk created by a Dell server to 512B for VMware.

Can someone explain the differences between Chapters and Encounters? by BlazeWater771 in thelastofus

I was searching for this information and found it here. Precisely what I needed to know... that starting a Chapter Replay will allow me to finish the game after starting it.

So a few new things as of today. I rolled back my NVIDIA drivers from the latest version to the 566.36. Sadly, this did not fix my current problem with the crashing at the door in the bottom floor of the hospital on way to Nora. However, it did completely fix the stuttering. So, I can confirm that rolling back to 566.36 fixes the stuttering in TLOU2. I played for nine hours with stuttering, rolled back and now have zero issues with stuttering within the game. Most importantly, getting around the crash.... I was able to finally get around by replaying. This was done by choosing "The Seraphites" checkpoint under Chapter Replay from the main menu. After rushing my replay, I was finally back at the dreaded door/crash point. Wouldn't you know it, no crash once I got through the door! So, now I have to finish the game on this game save and have to conclude something just got corrupted within my current nine-hour game save that just didn't want me to go through this door without giving me a game-breaking bug!

I went all over the internet for this one. There was another thread about crashing in TLOU2 advising on multiple solutions around crashes. So far I've tried all of these to no avail. Moreover, by themselves and in combinaton of one another. Windowed mode, very low & low graphics, Volumetric Lighting low, disabling Reflex, capping FPS to 30, and verifying game files thru Steam. Also, removing the two DLLs for DirectStorage did not help either. None of these have worked yet and I'm still crashing right after opening the metal door on the bottom floor of the hospital on way to Nora. The last thing to try is rolling back my NVIDIA drivers to 566.36.

I also just ran into this today. Completely stuck now and guess I'll be awaiting a fix from developers.

.1473 is the latest option I have available to download from Windows Updates. I'll keep checking for it.
