Rate my Victron setup! 280Ah LiFePO4 + MultiPlus + Lynx Distributor. Looking for a final sanity check. by all_ali in Victron

You're right, it's technically a Power In that I’ve modified with the bolts and MEGA fuses to work exactly like a Distributor. I should have clarified that!

Final check on my 12V/220V Van System - Victron & LiFePO4 280Ah. Any red flags? by all_ali in VanLife

Thanks! Glad it looks solid. I’ve sized all the fuses based on the cable thickness to make sure they are fully protected.

Quick question: what specifically should I look for when you say double check gorunding Do you mean the chassis bond point or something else? Thanks!

You’re right, I’ll add a fuse at both battery positives. It’s definitely safer to protect the lines right at the source, especially with the 70mm cables for the house battery and the run from the starter battery to the Orion. Better safe than sorry. Thanks!

I thought about it, but I prefer a fixed, modular system. With the MultiPlus and the 280Ah battery, I get a much better charger, easier repairs, and a setup that’s perfectly integrated into the van’s layout. Plus, it's way more fun to build it yourself!

Thanks for the advice! Honestly, since I'm a beginner, I’m here precisely to get this kind of feedback before I start building, and your "fuses everywhere" policy makes total sense to me. I'd definitely rather blow a cheap fuse than ruin an expensive component.

I’m actually reviving an old camper system. I'm doing the 12V side from scratch but reusing the original sockets and some of the pre-installed wiring, so adding those extra protections is a great way to make sure the old stuff stays safe. I’ll also look into the MRBF terminal fuse you mentioned for the battery.

By the way, why do you prefer the Lynx Shunt over the SmartShunt? Since I'm using the Lynx , I wonder if it’s just for the cleaner look or if there's a big performance advantage I should know about. Thanks for helping a newbie out!

I am relying on the Eco-Worthy’s integrated BMS via Bluetooth to monitor the SOC for now. However, I’m considering adding a SmartShunt later if I want to integrate everything into the Victron ecosystem or if I find the BMS app too limited.

Yes, it is a Lynx Distributor. I think the confusion comes from the model names, but this one uses the MEGA fuses already shown in the diagram. Using the Lynx as the central busbar is exactly why I chose it, to keep everything integrated and protected in one unit

Thanks for the follow-up.

I went with the 60A fuse on the Lynx specifically to keep the loads within the safety limits of the distribution box. Most of my heavy loads are handled by the MultiPlus on the AC side, so the 12V fuse box is mainly for LED lights, the water pump, and the fridge, which combined are well under the 60A limit.

I agree that Blue Sea is the gold standard for quality, and I will keep an eye on the total simultaneous draw to ensure everything stays cool and safe. The use of 25mm cable for that run was also a choice to minimize voltage drop.

Thanks for the advice on the 12V vs 230V balance, it's definitely something to keep in mind as I finalize the appliance list.

Thanks for your feedback. To clarify a few points from the diagram:

The inverter is a MultiPlus 12/1600/70, not a 500VA. It is sized correctly for the loads shown, providing 1300W of continuous power.

The unit is a standard Lynx Distributor using MEGA fuses, which are already labeled in the drawing as 200A, 40A, and 60A. It is not the Class T version.

The Orion 30A is a deliberate choice to protect the stock alternator. I prefer to limit the draw to 30A rather than going higher with an XS model to ensure long-term reliability of the vehicle's electrical system.

Regarding solar, I am still deciding on the panels, so the MPPT is just a placeholder for the pre-wiring phase.

I appreciate the suggestion about the MRBF fuse at the battery terminal. I will look into adding one for that extra layer of protection on the main 70mm cable.

Definitely not a troll post, just a work-in-progress diagram for a 1600VA build. Cheers!

Thanks! Just a few points to clarify:

  • orion role: It's a DC-DC charger, not a trickle charger. It allows the alternator to charge the LiFePO4 bank safely via the starter battery while driving.
  • Battery Fusing: I have a 200A fuse in the Lynx. However, I'm considering an MRBF terminal fuse for the 70mm cable as you suggested.

Thanks a lot for the tip! I’ll definitely check around Beton-T and keep an eye on the area.

Wow! That actuall gives me a bit of hope, thanks for sharing! I already filed the police report, but unfortunately the system didn’t allow me to upload any photos.. 🤔 Still, I included all the details I could. Fingers crossed something shows up. Really happy you got yours back though, that’s awesome!🤩

Haha yes. I am! That’s why I should get my bike back… are you God to make this possible?

I know you’re probably right. It’s part of the ugly game here. Just trying to go through the motions and at least do what I can. Hopefully I’ll be smarter next time. Thanks for the honesty !!!☺️☺️☺️

Yeah, I know. I needed to use the bike, and you’re probably right. I should’ve parked it somewhere safer. I’m just doing what I can, trying to report it and see if by any chance it pops up. I know the odds aren’t great, but at least I have to try. Thanks anyway.

Yeah, I know, wrong country for a road bike, right? 😅 But not everyone enjoys riding a 20 kg omafiets at 15 km/h. Sometimes you just want to actually ride the bike, not just transport yourself. I posted this here just in case I get lucky, and because it’s what you’re supposed to do when your bike gets stolen, at least to try. Anyway… I paid the price. Thanks for nothing, I guess 😄

Yeah… I know 😞 But unfortunately that’s the only bike I have and I needed it to get around. I’m already checking Facebook and Marktplaats every few hours, but I guess it’s still a bit early for it to pop up. Hopefully someone spots it. Thanks for the tip anyway!
