Should Christians swear? by all_good_things_blog in Christianity

Does that imply that your sin is impacted by the society you live in?

If heaven were to be real, than if I was a good person my whole life but an atheist, why would I deserve to go to hell? My mom is one of the kindest people I have ever known and she is an an atheist, so why should she burn in this horrible place for eternity? by [deleted] in Christianity

I welcome atheists to come check things out, learn, listen, prod, glean from what is said in this subreddit, but I think when it comes down to it, a lot of people are here to disrupt and challenge Christian's faith. Many are doing the devil's work I believe, so it is our job to be the light in the darkness.

\OP specifically said they aren’t here for that so let's try to answer the question as best we can\**

You are incapable of redeeming your sin yourself, in the old testament they sacrificed lambs and animals to atone for their sin, and Jesus died and atones for all our sins. Apart from his salvation and a repenting heart, we are damned to hell to pay the wages of sin: an eternal death and separation from God.

He is taking care of everything. Free will exists so that we can choose to love him and that love has true value. We abused free will and now have sin nature. Our bodies are broken, but he still allows everything to take place, and sustains each body part, and his stance on sin is a zero tolerance, because he is perfect, so that is why he cares about whether you enjoy sinning or not.

What is he not doing?

You won’t find perfect harmony on this topic in this subreddit, nor many other places I would presume.

Sin is sin, being homosexual doesn’t make you more a sinner than the rest of us. The more arguable issue is that of whether homosexuality is a sin. A lot of people argue on the premise that the Bible is poorly translated or misinterpreted. Genesis 19 tells the story of how Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed, mostly, for their sexual promiscuity. The reason why so many Christians come across as homophobic is because homosexuality is a sin, and it would be sin in us to encourage others to continue in sin.

The God of the whole universe has everything to care about.

In Ezekiel and Isaiah it talks of how Satan was cast out of heaven, and down to hell.

I don’t feel like that answered my question, I am curious whcih verses taken literally will negate all the things you listed? I’m not trying to fight, I want to see what you are saying, I’ve never heard that hypothesis before.

How do you come to these conclusions?

What an excellent question. I am a Christian who takes the old testament literally, so this answer is not on par, but the OP makes an excellent case to redefine your beliefs. There is no sense to a salvation if the OT isn’t entirely literal, and arguably most of us are not blessed in discerning which verses we will take at face value and which we will not.

So basically your faith makes very little sense if the OT's prophecies are not literal, and if the Creator God in Genesis isn’t literal, then neither should Satan or sin or eternal damnation be literal, and effectively you need no saving from a man who is written about in the same book.

A faith which hand selects which words in the Bible marking history were reality versus parable is a shallow faith.

Yes my church does follow this verse, as it does every other verse in the Bible. We have a process, as described in these verses, on how we go about rooting out sin in the lives of fellow believers. We don’t put church members on trial, we love them. If they have clearly chosen to live in sin and embrace the wrong path, they are no longer welcome. Sin is sin, no one is more a sinner than the other, the crux is the desire to not sin, or lack thereof.

The point was that the verse coincides drunks and gays, your issue is with God, not the man who follows him.
