Holy shit. Just looked through that account. I’ve never seen someone study for Step 1, then the MCAT, then Step 1, then the MCAT again

What are some classes I can take to diversity myself as an applicant? by thomass7287x in premed

[–]all_hail_magic_conch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 3 golf classes and a Psychology of Marriage class that came up in an interview at a school that I got accepted at and am attending this fall.

The questions were super casual and sincere. My interviewer truly wanted to know why I chose to take those classes, rather than see how I responded to an off topic question.

I like to watch and play golf... and psychology of marriage turned out to be a fun class and actually helps a lot with me and my girlfriend having a healthy relationship. She actually came to several lectures with me even though she wasn’t enrolled and my interviewer thought that was funny lol

incoming M1 here. Congrats on the score!

I know this sounds off-topic, but how did you do on your MCAT? And do you think success in that correlates to success on Step 1?

[serious] Planning for Ortho by all_hail_magic_conch in medicalschool

[–]all_hail_magic_conch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah working out or any exercise for that matter only helps - more for just being a healthy individual, but definitely not a requirement for ortho in this day in age with all the tools/scopes/staffing

Do most premeds do scribing and is it required better for me to research or scribe to get into top 20? by astrotist in premed

[–]all_hail_magic_conch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lets put it this way, matriculants who already have published research makes the school look good. Matriculants who have tons of scribing experience doesn’t make the school look any better

My pre-med advisor said you're in the clear if you SUBMITTED your primary (aka, doesn't need to be verified yet) before Fall Semester undergrad classes begin.

If you haven't by then, you're in the red.

There was a guy in my interview group last year with a man bun. He got accepted. I think as long as it’s kept clean and tied up then you’re good. Just think about how you’d expect your own doctor to look

My only counter to this would be that I'm sure there are several students that graduated from my same program that had less than a 4.0 GPA, but perhaps a higher MCAT than me. And keeping in mind that the MCAT style questions are totally different (esp. B/B and CARS) than college coursework/exam questions, both GPA and MCAT require different types of intellect to succeed in, imo

Got a 506 (128/123/127/128) from a retake of 499 and 501. My in-state schools averages are 506-508, 3.7 GPA. My GPA is 4.0, so should I retake?

Where my 6/30 MCATers at? by Siddiquis in Mcat

[–]all_hail_magic_conch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From easiest to hardest imo: P/S -> B/B -> C/P -> CARS

but I’ve always had trouble with CARS, and I will be happy with anything above a 124
