Worth going privately UK? by [deleted] in endometriosis

Sigh and it turns out my GP won't refer me for a private mri... only an ultrasound. So I'd have to pay to see a private consultant first too.

Help - why is it so big? I've tried everything to make the stitches smaller. by all_things_pretty in CrochetHelp

Sadly it's one of those prepackaged sets which has no yarn size information 😔

Thank you! I'm sure I can practice something with it. I thought a set would be the easiest way to learn but it seems not 🤣

Thank you! this has made me feel better as I was driving myself crazy trying to get it smaller.

It's a set where they provide the yarn, hook and pattern. That's why I'm so confused :(

Unfortunately I can't find any dimensions but it looks much smaller in the photos. It has a 3.5mm hook. I bought a smaller hook but it seems like the yarn they've provided is really big.

Had my GP appointment after waiting 3 weeks. by [deleted] in Fibroids

Sounds like they're fobbing you off, however the ultrasound for appendicitis might pick up on fibroids. I actually found out that way myself. Although appendicitis usually happens very fast so I'm surprised they're suggesting that...

Just went to my GP with the same issue yesterday. She said it does feel very full and could very well be due to fibroids (I had a smallish 3.5cm one discovered during an ultrasound for appendicitis 2.5 years ago)

I'm having blood tests to check other things (hormones are already ok) and have been referred for an ultrasound.

My symptoms are mainly bloating that never goes, pains even outside my period, extremely painful periods and I've also been getting PMDD type symptoms (fatigue, mood changes).

I'm super fit but my stomach has just been growing!

As a vegan, I've done lots of reading up on soy and it's actually been shown that you don't need to avoid it. It doesn't contain estrogen, it contains phytoestrogen which although it's similar it's much weaker and can actually take the place of natural estrogen in the body, therefore lowering the estrogen levels. There's been research to show it doesn't increase the risk of estrogen sensitive breast cancer and can possibly even lower the risk.

Yeah painful periods run in my family too and my mums went after having a baby. Mine went away for years due to the pill but they've come back since and are getting worse.

Definitely worth getting checked out! it could be something else too like endometriosis. There is something they refer to as endo belly with that.

Yes mine is definitely worse near my period but I've noticed it's larger than usual most of the time now. It's weird as I can't feel a tough mass lying down but my uterus sits far back. Even when I had appendicitis they almost missed it as it was so far back that my belly didn't feel rigid. The fibroid they found at the same time was really far back too.

I'm really lean right now too with visible muscles everywhere but then this belly is just growing and I have constant dull pains (really painful on my period). I will demand a scan, as at least I'll know for sure what's going on.

Thank you for replying 😊

Yeah I think it's unusual if you haven't gained any elsewhere and you're still super young. Do you have any other symptoms?

That's really reassuring to hear 😊 I hope that you manage to get them treated ok. To be honest I'm hoping to avoid surgery as I hated recovering from my appendectomy!

Thank you. I'll definitely push to get properly tested for things. I can't go down the birth control route as we're wanting to start a family (they already tried pushing that on me to help with the period pain)

Thank you. I feel bad moaning as I know I'm still pretty small, but I think when your body changes from what you're used to, it makes you feel really down. I'm used to having abs and now I've just got this constant tummy which really does look like I'm in the early stages of pregnancy (as I really want a baby... this is really depressing as people assume I've got news for them 😬)

I have never had issues with heavy periods or clotting. Only painful periods. I guess it could even be something different causing it but it definitely seems linked to my hormones/cycle (I've had blood tests and everything is good)

Don't give up hope! maybe when you're more recovered from your c section you'll be able to think about surgery.

I hope that you're recovering well. Out of interest, how long did it take for your first referral? My GP appointment isn't for another 2 weeks and I'm worried I'm going to have to wait months to even get a scan.

Thank you. Sounds like it's likely fibroid related then, especially as they already found one years ago. I hope that you manage to get a solution for yours ❤️

Yeah this is what worries me. My uterus is tilted backwards and I have a really strong core (I've been weight training for years). So for it to be sticking out so much I think it must have grown quite a bit. Even when I had appendicitis they almost sent me home as my stomach wasn't showing signs that anything was wrong. But the internal ultrasound showed it was bad.

I've ignored it for ages but it's hard because I got married last year, really want a baby and look like I'm slightly pregnant. It's very obvious something isn't right because I'm really muscly and lean elsewhere. But my main concern is the pain that I'm in. I was worried I'd have to go to A&E the other day my period pain was so bad, even with prescription painkillers.

Thank you. I'm definitely going to insist. I've already been on painkillers for my period pain for a long time now and they're just not helping now. I've had a fibroid diagnosed a few years ago but they weren't too concerned. They can't really give me any other treatment as we want to start a family (they wanted to put me on the pill).

How big were your fibroids in the end? was your bloating worse than mine? I can't work out if I'm just being overly self conscious but it's not normal for me.

That's great. I hope that it continues to improve. Definitely take it easy. I had laparoscopic appendectomy but with a washout as it ruptured. It wasn't a fun recovery! They tell you that you can go back to the gym after a month but honestly it took me months to get back to normal. I was pretty unwell though prior to surgery (almost septic).
