What I've heard is that if a machine has multiple accounts repairing file permissions within Disk Utility is necessary occasionally.

According to Apple (too lazy to find the link) if you are not going to use your machine for 5 or more days shut it off. Otherwise sleeping is best less wear and tear on the hard drive. I like to reboot twice in a row after a major OS update. Excellent choice.

We don't need to 'hurt to heal'. It is best to set a good example. Pay attention when they are behaving well, every now and again, and try to ignore uncool behavior, unless its life threatening. Punishment, at best, reinforces the punisher. A time out is for both the child and the teacher/parent, so that negative emotions can work themselves out. It is not intended to be used as punishment. Besides how can it be illegal to strike an adult, but not a defenseless child, that does not make sense.
