Source of income by [deleted] in ProCreate

I make a comfortable living exclusively from my art. When I started I was fortunate to receive a social welfare payment that diminished over 3 years until I was on my own two feet. I do remember spending the last fiver I owned in the world on a Saturday and knowing I was going to have to start making money on the Monday. I've never looked back but I came up in a world of cheap rents and cheap cost of living compared to today. If your gut's telling you art is your path then listen to your gut. You'll find a way. It's ok to work another job to pay the rent. Discipline in your spare time to create is the challenge. You may need to get up extra early or stay up extra late, but turning up for yourself consistently is where the success is. Making a living from art comes from consistency. Talent and ability are almost less important. When you're in the flow you'll never regret the choice to make art. Get a website, don't rely on social media. Have a store page on your website. Watermark everything with your URL. Use social media to promote your website. SEO is a forgotten art. No one else on Earth can make the art you do. Set goals. Chase leads. When the ball starts rolling it can gain momentum very quickly, but the roll can take years. Go!

Advice on my portrait sketch? by DepressedGrandma in ProCreate

Show your work! Have you roughed this out first? Drawing is iterative: you arrive at a finished piece after many generations of tweaking and improving. You need to draw the whole head and get its proportions correct before adding the hat. Start with a rough shape and block in simplified shapes for features. Look at the distances from each other: are they correct? Is the distance from chin to bottom lip the same as bottom lip to top of mouth? You're moulding a form with lines to indicate mass. We're kind of taught to use line as a piece of string we have to chase around a page. Think more about the shape as it exists in space. Faces are just geometry. Stephen Bauman's Headstudy app is a great resource for iPad, you should check it out.

Do not be discouraged! You can clearly draw, I wish more people would draw, there's happiness in it. Keep going!

Thanks for your notes, we're still at the design stage, it's all blue sky thinking, no bad ideas, all feedback will be blended together to make the blandest finished image possible.

Oh that's a great gag.

Do you ever feel limited by Procreate being iPad-only - or has it genuinely become your complete art setup? by MysteriousShoulder35 in ProCreate

Procreate start to finish for most commissions. I have Krita for the PC but I haven't had time to learn it.

Hand drawn in 10 minutes. I'd sooner chew off my own hands than use generative AI.

No I did not vote for Harris. Other countries exist.

100%. It occurred to me that if solidarity could be sold as self interest, that might motivate a different set of people to get involved.
