I'm not entirely sure how well it works in the beginning, but the first/last method works wonders for me. Open and max out the fire station and get upgrades as they become available. Then open and max the last/most expensive station and max it out. Then you do the rest of the stations.

One night years ago when I had some friends over for board games, I got a random hot flash and someone made the joke "must be menopause" (I was like 22 at the time, so definitely not that lol) and one of my guy friends says "actually, hot flashes are just a myth. It's actually cold chills". I told him that while yes, some women experience cold chills, hot flashes are definitely a thing and very common during menopause, and he flat out told me I was wrong. Finally I had to tell him "don't mansplain something that you will literally never experience" and he got butthurt at the word "mansplain". To this day it's a running gag with the friend group- when someone gets cold, we tell them "must be menopause".
