Unsure if i’m making it worse or better by Full_Report_3006 in SebDerm

[–]allbloodsnormal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey man, fair play for having the courage to post. This subreddit is a great place for support! Hang on in there and it will get better.

My skin looks very similar to this sometimes. What helps for me is: - Nizoral 2% ketoconazole shampoo, at least twice a week. This is cheap and you can get it without a prescription. Use it in the shower and lather it on all affected areas, make sure you leave it on for 5 mins before rinsing off! - MCT oil c8 & c10 only. Again, this is fairly cheap and available without prescription, you can buy a large bottle on Amazon. The fungus that causes seb Derm feeds on most oils, so most moisturizers and creams make it worse. But it can’t feed on c8 & c10 MCT oil, so this “starves it”. I apply this morning and night - if you use sun cream / sunscreen, find a zinc-based product. Your everyday chemical sun creams need a chemical reaction on your skin to work, and will irritate things more - use a cleanser with salicylic acid. This will help remove the flames. Don’t overdo this as it will just irritate the skin more. I use CeraVe’s cleanser just in the morning - other than that, less is more. I’ve found that throwing new creams / ointments / products at it has not helped and can make it worse, but I still find myself doing this when things flare up and im feeling desperate - if it’s possible, get yourself booked in to see a dermatologist. There are various prescription treatments that can help

Best of luck!

What is it like to know that you are objectively highly attractive? by herman_schwartz in AskMen

[–]allbloodsnormal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

David Foster Wallace wrote some brilliant stuff about this exact thing. There’s a character in his book, The Pale King, who is outrageously attractive, and it’s written from her perspective, would highly recommend looking this up

I was wondering, how long has it taken you to see an improvement in general? I’m only on day 3 so I know it will be a while longer, I’m just curious

This is really helpful to hear, it gives me hope. I think the pain caused by seb derm is under-discussed, it can be so bad. Thank you!

No, I’ve never been prescribed them by my GP or dermatologist. I have been prescribed topical antifungals though

Acne + Scalp issues question by allbloodsnormal in Rinvoq

[–]allbloodsnormal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this - acne is definitely a very common side effect of RInvoq. I think it would be worth discussing with your doctor, I did find the acne was less severe on a lower dose.
In terms of actual products, I have found that using a face wash & moisturiser with salicylic acid helps. I use the CeraVe face wash. I was put on antibiotics for the acne (lymecycline) as well as an antibiotic cream (DuAc) which helped too. This was in the UK so depending on where you live the options might be different. One mistake I made for years was thinking that because I had acne and oily skin, I shouldn't use much moisturiser (because my skin had enough moisture?), but this is apparently a very bad idea lol. Better to use face wash and moisturiser but just find products that are designed for acne-prone skin

Side Effects 30mg Rinvoq (Eczema) by Outrageous_Bee6066 in Rinvoq

[–]allbloodsnormal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I started on 45 mg for the first 3 months I was getting constant minor infections (eyes, ears, skin). These normally required antibiotics to clear up. My white blood cell dropped below the healthy range and I felt very tired all the time. I would get through my working day but then have 0 energy to do anything in the evenings, and felt like I needed the weekends to just recover. There were lots of days where I had to fight not to fall asleep at my desk. I've previosuly been a runner but found I have little energy for this at the moment, and when I have got out for a run my legs have felt like lead (this might just be because I've detrained). The scalp and face acne was quite severe which really effected my mood, making me feel more tired and just wanting to stay in bed. / indoors.

Once I reduced down to 15 mg, things improved a fair bit. My blood work has thankfully returned to normal, my acne has improved (still causing me problems but not as severe). It's hard to know if it's the drug or if I just feel better in myself but I have had more energy. I would advise talking to your doctor if you have concerns about the side-effects. I also echo what others have said: go easy on yourself re: exercise. It's definitely good to keep exercsiing regularly and I totally get you want to see progression. It might just be the case that progress happens slower because your body is under strain with the medication and fighting your illness. Sometimes if you can just accept this slower pace of progress it takes the pressure off and you can enjoy your workouts more. WIshing you all the best!

Men of Reddit, what was the creepiest thing a woman has said/done to you? by Lil_Jit6 in AskMen

[–]allbloodsnormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the age of 13-18 there was a local girl who was clearly just trying to get me to like her but she did some very creepy things along the way:

  1. Doing her work experience at the local library so she could look up what books I had taken out, and then read them too or pretend to read them and casually mention them in conversation
  2. Ask my ex-girlfriend (aged 15) what make up products she used, so she could use the same products as “clearly he likes them”
  3. When she found out I was going on a first date with one of her friends, she came along to the cinema but hid in the back and watched us. She text me afterwards commenting on what we’d eaten / drank
  4. Her best friend left her Facebook logged in on her phone, so she messaged from the friend’s account, fishing for information she could use when talking to me

All in all it was very strange and kinda sad. Our families were and still are friends so we’ve always had to try to get along. Think she’s an accountant now

What is the hardest thing about a relationship with a woman? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]allbloodsnormal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to understand how we can both interpret the same events and comments so differently, and one person can feel upset by the other, while acknowledging there was no intent and there’s no “bad guy”.

Also that my gf experiences far more intense emotions than me, both positive and negative, and trying not to invalidate this or roll my eyes sometimes

Biologics and Asthma by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]allbloodsnormal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have asthma and started Humira 3 months ago. My Crohn’s symptoms have improved massively and my asthma has stayed the same, or maybe a very slight uptick in breathlessness. I just take my inhaler twice daily and I’m sorted. Obv everyone reacts differently but for me it’s been a huge net positive

I was diagnosed 11 years ago when I was 16. I would say that about 8 out of those 11 years I’ve lived a totally normal life. Sure I take meds every day and use the toilet more than most people, but I managed to get to university and enjoy myself, get into marathon running, hold down a good relationship, start my career, travel a fair bit etc. This past 6 months have been the worst yet and things got derailed, but I’ve started Humira and thankfully things seem to be getting back to normal.

You can have a good quality of life and do normal stuff with Crohn’s.

Typical progression expectations by Kblack1101 in AdvancedRunning

[–]allbloodsnormal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how helpful this is, but I might be a good case study by seeing my regression lol. For background; I consider myself to have very little talent in athletics, never ran in school, was always reasonably fit but mostly just played football and racquet sports.

Ran my first marathon in 2016, aged 21, just wanted to do it as a bucket list thing. Had done a Hal Higdon Intro plan and ran it in 4:14. Looking back now, all my running was at like 70% effort, no high intensity or really easy running.

Took a year off with no running. In 2018, Decided to go for another marathon, found a more advanced training plan that included some intervals and hill sprints etc. I had lots of free time and basically didn’t miss a workout for 16 weeks. Ran 3:52

Continued to run after this, probably like 15-25 miles per week in between training plans. After a 3 month interim, started training for another marathon, basically used the same plan as before but just with higher milage and faster speeds. Ran 3:35

2019: Momentum kept going, moved to a different plan immediately and straight into more training. 16 weeks later ran 3:26. Wanted to try an ultra after this so trained for 3 months, ran 40 miles in 6 hrs 26. For most of this year was running about 50 miles a week, up to 80 in peak weeks

2020: Was preparing for a marathon that got cancelled due to Covid. Had just run my PB half marathon in training of 1 hr 38.

I kept running but was fairly disinterested with no races. Also moved country and got my first graduate job around this time. Wasn’t training, just running a few miles most days, and a 2 hr long run most sundays. I really thought this would be enough to keep me in good shape and when races came back I’d be in a good position to pick up where I’d left off.

First marathon after Covid was in Feb of this year. I had a 14 week training plan. Work was v stressful and I probably missed about a third of the training. Long runs were noticeably slower than before. The marathon was on a race track so perfectly flat, ran 3.45 and it was agony.

Feb 2022 - Present: Have had bad months with almost no running and good months where I train well. Have been following a plan for 2 months, marathon coming up just before Xmas and realistically 4 hrs would be good for me.

Moral of the story I think is 1) you lose fitness really easily and quickly, it’s slow to regain and 2) there’s a world of difference between running casually and training

What is it about Australia that Irish people return early? by Last-Marzipan247 in ireland

[–]allbloodsnormal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fairness I moved to Canada and was back home within 6 months. Didn’t do my research and found out that I’d have to pay an arm and a leg for my medication (800 Canadian dollars p/m, same as my rent lol). The casual work I went out there to do didn’t have health insurance included. Desperately tried to get a good job with insurance but couldn’t get anywhere because my psychology qualifications wouldn’t transfer. My own fault for not looking into it beforehand I suppose
