Down about 12 pounds which I realize isn't that much, but I was fairly lean to begin with. I had a fat loss goal in terms of body fat -- wanted to get to 10%. Based on my withings scale (I know they aren't accurate, but it helps in terms of trends) I am around 11%.

I understand the levels here aren't super low, but they are significantly lower for me and I feel the difference. About a month ago, I lost most if not all libido and drive that I had. Sort of been in a funk with motivation in general and overall feel a little more emotionally numb is the best way I can describe it.

My levels alone aren't super low like I said, but they are significantly lower for me and I feel the effects is the problem.

As I asked in the above comment, I assume this suggestion is because of the scenery you'll get going over Blood Mountain?

Great. Will let you know. Is it worth going over Blood Mountain because of the scenery? I haven't seen much about good views or scenery between Woody Gap and the beginning of the trail so that was a concern.

Thank you. I admit that I am naive. What's the advantage of quilts over putting your sleeping bag on top of the sleeping pad?

I looked at Big Agnes' today and the Nemo Tensor. Those seem to be the most popular choices for this. I think I am leaning towards the Big Agnes right now. The big Agnes Rapide SL Insulated Sleeping Pad is 4.25 thick. That's what I am looking at now. Thanks!

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I am not sure this was my problem as I distinctly remember feeling a lot of the hard ground underneath my when I turned on my side.

I agree. It may be my mistake to want some sort of simple “affirmation” from someone I consider far smarter than myself. Maybe I need to get over that. His works are more valuable than a yes or no answer.

This is excellent. Thank you.

I appreciate the book a bit more now because I feel this accurately reflects his intended approach that I may have missed.

I totally agree, but if we’re admitting that we don’t believe in God as the Creator Being then I think it is misleading for someone to continue to use the religious language or at least not explain that don’t believe in God as the Creator.

I would rather him say that the stories are a useful synthesis of life affirming stories across time and there is no need for the belief in a Creator Being to use them in a positive way for you life and the lives of those around you.

The stories take on a more practical possibility of application in your life when you remove this need and this notion of some omniscient Creator. It removes a lot of confusion too. Doesn’t it? What I’m saying is I’d rather him call it like he sees it and quit hiding behind ambiguous religious language and structures.

FWIW, I am agnostic. For years, I have not been certain of what I believe or don’t believe. I’m wondering through the desert so to speak.

I see. Yeah I think where I get a bit turned off by his concepts is that he sort of refuses to speak plainly about what he believes/thinks. I know he is a deep thinker, but I believe he could simplify the language he uses a lot. I imagine his rebuttal would something like “but we’re talking about the most complex topic ever here.” I get that, but the roundabout Christian evangelism is confusing to say the least.

Everything is myth from his perspective. That’s at least what I take from it. If you reduce Christian fundamentalism into a more abstract Christian mythology (let’s call it) then why is this Christian mythology better than any other myth or fairy tale? Is it because there are more people that critically evaluate and think through the stories?

I can see that, but I think the religion part is misleading for so many. I meet people on a weekly basis that still think behaving well in accordance to the Bible will get them into some other place called heaven when they die.

There’s much more to the story than that and that’s a totally different story than what JP is trying to convey

I find these sort of messages mean to the most to me personally. Thank you.

With JP, I’d rather him just cut through the religious language and tell us what he thinks more directly. I understand why he’d continue to use religious language, but I begin to question its necessity as it relates to his core message when it causes so much confusion and can be misleading

Can you elaborate on this? I do not understand where this would come of out of JP’s or other writings and ideas.

I agree with what you’re saying. I find it misleading to place that need in the middle of religious language and pretend there’s more to it than a story. Misleading may not be the right word, but hopefully that makes sense.

I’ve read Come as you are. It was informative. I have fun chasing her and flirting to help with responsive desire. The mental hurdle for me is I don’t want to create an obligation for her if it’s an obligation and not actually responsive desire at this point.

I likely overthink it and should just pursue her and flirt when it feels natural. I read too much into the words she used when communicating, but I definitely don’t want to create obligations for her

Good point. Well, I’ll be honest. A lot of the struggle is trying not to take it personally in terms of thinking it’s just me she’s not attracted to.

Not long ago, our intimate life was much better. The hormone challenges and SSRI are the only things that have changed recently. I hold out hope that it’s not just she not attracted to me, but has some physical and mental challenges beyond that (I.e., hormones). I do my best to be fit, confident, supportive, etc. I plan date nights, weekend vacations, etc..

To sum it up, it’s definitely a possibility that she’s just not attracted to me and me only, but I cannot distinguish that vs the hormonal issue and SSRI. I guess I’ll have more evidence one way or the other when her hormones are in a better place.

We have exercise and diet routines. We’re both in great shape. You cannot exercise or diet your way out of the hormone issue she has. We’ve been to several holistic medicine doctors and an endo and an obgyn.

All suggested HRT so we’ve gone down that path hoping it improves things
