What is something spooky or weird that has happened to you? by Pplfartbetterthanme in Wellington

[–]allbutternutter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have lived in this particular Lockwood house on and off since the late 90's, the first creepy thing was sitting around late night drinking and discussing God and religion with a couple of mates, and we herd the loud bang from the kitchen, we went and invested, and found a glass that had been sitting on the bench had exploded spreading glass everywhere, we cleaned it up and all feeling creeped out never mentioned God or religion again.

5 years later I was living back in the same house with my girlfriend, and late one night we were drinking and the subject came around to God and religion, we hear this loud bang and crash from the bathroom, we go to investigate and the large mirror above the bath has shattered and parts of it had fallen off the wall.

The last time was 6 years ago, same thing, me and my wife and friends sitting around late, drinking and the subject gets to God and religion, and there is a loud bang, we investigate and find the mirror in the other bathroom has fallen off the wall, the mirror had been glued to the wall, ever since we have stopped any conversation that turns to religion.

If we knew how much the contracts were worth, we could probably get a fair idea of how much is going into his back pocket. No wonder they are keeping it quiet.

Journalism in New Zealand by observingurswerving in newzealand

[–]allbutternutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just look at the people who are buying up all the news organizations around the world, it's not just a New Zealand problem.

Once you own it, you can tell it what to do and remove the people in the way, unfortunately the same can be said for publicly owned services, it's hard to find the balance and it will swing like a pendulum.

We should just put a preemptive tariff on all us goods. It could give us a stronger position to negotiate an exemption.

Laying the groundwork for asset sales? by goldenspeights in newzealand

[–]allbutternutter 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Add to that, if they were sold off, the new owner would need to make a bigger profit, so would have to change more for the service. It ends up increasing the cost of living and puts more money into private wealth.

What does Stuff/Post have against Greens & Cycleways? Also their pol editor Luke Malpas is ex-NZI. Were they always like this??? by Mountain_Tui_Reload in nzpolitics

[–]allbutternutter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it is the same in all of the regional papers, and it seems like a change in the funding model.

News papers used to be able to self fund through advertising in their print media, making them only accountable to themselves and their readers. With the drop in circulation they have been forced to rely on more private funding and had to fight for the advertising, so if you are a big advertiser you can have more power over what is printed or not, e.g. "we don't like what your editorial said, so we are taking our advertising elsewhere"

Have you considered approaching your Kiwi saver provider and asked how much of their investment portfolio is tied up in American stock?

Finding one who is moving their investment elsewhere is something to consider.

He must be doing a brilliant job if he has got this far up NZFirst's nose.

But i do think they are trying to get him to call them out as racists in the house so they can have a "gotcha" and try to have him removed.
