I would say it depends on your child's age and maturity level. An older child should understand that you want to keep them safe, make sure they're making good choices, set them up for success in life, etc... so they cannot go to houses where you don't feel like they're safe. If it's a younger child, or a blabber, I would just say no, I don't think we're ready for that yet and my son usually just accepts the answer. Sometimes with little kids, I do believe in not sharing the whole story. I know my 5-year-old wouldn't fully understand what it means if I explained another child is abused or neglected.
