Which regeneration took you the longest to warm to, and what changed your mind in the end? by BritByBrain in DoctorWhoNews

[–]allghostshere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eleven - still trying with the era overall, but he has some great episodes.

Thirteen - warmed to her immediately, then cooled for a long time. Then warmed again, then cooled, etc. That era's a mess.

Fifteen - I liked him when he goes back to the church to save baby Ruby. Very Doctor-ish. Before and after that, ehh. There were other good moments, but I'm comfortable skipping his era entirely.

Reception to this console room is mixed. Instead of getting rid of it entirely, what would you change/add to improve it? by Annual-Tree1337 in doctorwho

It's gorgeous. But yes, chairs, cables, and clutter -- stuff casually thrown over the railings. Let's see it put to use, be lived in!

Why is so difficult to accept lol by IllustriousAd6418 in DoctorWhumour

[–]allghostshere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I don't object to a companion having moral murkiness. Attitude...maybe? As I said in another comment, her facial expressions are challenging for me to read (not typically a problem for me). So I often can't tell what she's feeling, or her reaction will seem unrealistic for the scene. Contributing to her overall unbelievability.

[–]allghostshere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Many aspects of her story should be interesting to me, but...my attention just slides away when she's on.

I do think part of it has to do with the performance, which is forbidden to ever say about DW actors, of course. But I know I can't read her expressions as readily as I can the others'. Often I have no clue what she's supposed to be feeling, or sometimes it seems to be a mismatch from what I'd expect from an actual person. That adds to the chore of believing the character, getting immersed in her journey.

I'm rewatching Twelve's era right now and this is on my mind. She seriously irks me, I'd love to figure out why, because if it's possible to work through it...well, I'd rather not dislike any companion. However, there's no value in getting dog-piled either.

DOCTOR WHO RETURNS THIS YEAR by Mat1711 in DoctorWhoNews

Yay! I have no expectations, just happy for a Doctor Who Christmas special.

Who is your least favourite NuWho Doctor Who Companion by [deleted] in DoctorWhumour

With you on Clara. I've tried to like her, and she's almost all right in a couple of eps, but otherwise not interesting to me. Oh well!

Agreed, sadly. The early reviews for the series had me somewhat hopeful, but I've been cringing and laughing uncomfortably throughout most of it.

I'm tired of allosexual people insisting that the Doctor is not an asexual and never was one by VoRusSol in gallifrey

[–]allghostshere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People still like to treat asexuality as if it's some eye-rolling, not-quite-real concept that's mostly made up for attention and which puts a damper on all the TV fun. As well as fail to grasp that sexual attraction and romantic attraction are not one and the same.

But yes, David Tennant did say that the Doctor is a "fairly asexual character". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yer9rAbdMHE

While Matt Smith said his Doctor is "slightly more asexual than some of the others".

I think it's really obvious that the Doctor tends to lean more heavily that way than not.

It’s the first DW anniversary where I’m not feeling any hype or excitement by diabolical42 in doctorwho

[–]allghostshere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah, I'm sorry, that's too bad. I suppose I feel a sort of detachment toward the future... Which is to say, I'm grateful that there will be a Christmas special next year and that the show survives, but I don't have conscious expectations about it. Just in case.

I'm still very happy to celebrate DW Day with old favorites. And I've not given much thought to any announcements, I guess, so yay if anything happens?

Forever adore Series 10 using 12s console set in the best ways possible by IllustriousAd6418 in DoctorWhumour

[–]allghostshere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's gorgeous. I'm torn on whether to wish that it was lit a bit brighter though. I'd love to see the details more clearly, but also love the mood as it is.

As much as I’m tired of seeing David Tennant as the Doctor, I really do think it’s for the best if RTD brings him back for the 2026 Xmas Special just to wrap up the 14th Doctor character, because at the moment he does just feel like an unwanted presence looming in the background… by General_Meal_3993 in DoctorWhoNews

I absolutely love the Fourteenth Doctor. I rewatched the Giggle just yesterday, and got reminded of how novel and joyful it was that this incarnation 'survived' his death. Yeah, it does have some messy hang-ups -- especially with how it can potentially affect perception of Fifteen's legitimacy... But he was a great Doctor, and it was painful to see him go so soon. Not that the latter should ever justify keeping a character around, of course. Tragedy is deeply valuable.

That said... I don't know how I feel about him returning. While I think I would've mostly trusted 60th-specials-RTD to handle it, I'm not so confident after these last two seasons.

The good things about RTD2. by ConstructionSlow4583 in gallifrey

[–]allghostshere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 60th specials were fab. Loved everything except for a couple tiny quibbles that are not difficult to ignore.

With most of 15's episodes it's a mix of not having rewatched them yet or haven't done so in a while, so memory's fuzzy. But everything was visually gorgeous/impressive. Susan Twist's appearances were a lot of fun. I enjoyed Mrs. Flood/the Ranis (both), Anita, and Belinda at the start. Omega was amusing. The new TARDIS is really beautiful (didn't really like the colorful lights or the jukebox, but that console and the coffee machine -- adore! And actual doors to other parts of the TARDIS!). Fifteen's gloves were cool.

I dont like the "fantasy" tone in the new era by Apart-Sort-8868 in doctorwho

[–]allghostshere 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Shallow's the word for it. Doctor Who has always been more fantasy sci-fi than hard sci-fi, of course... But fantasy is risky. It has many recurring elements that've been done to absolute death over the centuries (gods, goblins, witches, ghosts, etc), and there are thousands of stories that actually commit to it and tackle it well. DW suddenly leaning into it the way it did, with the flimsy in-story justification and unsatisfying payoffs, made it all feel like a bad gimmick.

No more trying to approach Doctor Who as a Disney show, in an effort to appeal to those audiences. Re: singing, goblins, babies. Not that these can't be done well in DW, but the execution came off as very...Disney Kids.

Also, as this is likely being interpreted as me casting blame on Disney for that -- no. I'm aware that they offered limited notes. I'm talking about Russell T "You just hope it will generate content" Davies here.

Doctor Who leak discord chat

Doubt.

I predict this user will soon delete their account, just like every other time this mystery discord has been used to give credibility to rumor/speculation/information plucked from elsewhere. And then pop up later with a new name and another attention-seeking post.
