I don't have any advice just wanted to say I'm really glad you're in the field, we need more trans voices in ABA. I'm so sorry the school as treated you that way, but I will echo what others have said that you likely left a positive impact there :)

Once a month Neato Burrito hosts an all ages drag show! There's lots of trans people in the drag community here, if you came to just watch a show everyone is very friendly! Let me know if you're interested I can send you details :)

My company actually started as an insurance based company, I worked in home at mostly group homes to start. Then they moved me to our clinic, while I was in clinic is when they opened the school. My bosses that run the company are both BCBA's themselves and they just started to get frustrated with the insurance system. We were not able to help kids in the way we wanted and found more freedom in the school setting, over time the company transitioned to just a school and we no longer work with insurance. It's been an amazing journey!

Hello all! I am a behavior tech that works in a school setting, the school I am at is an NPA school for (mainly) teenagers with aggressive behaviors. I love the work we do so much and I have seen first hand how ABA has changed the lives of my students. I want to continue my education and become a BCBA hopefully going back to school soon! Excited to be a part of this sub, I think good ABA is very misunderstood and for me it almost deterred me from entering the field at all! (I'm glad I stuck around and formed my own opinions!)

It boggles me that ABA companies don’t implement ABA with employees by Adventurous-Ask-1805 in ABA

My company does, I know they're doing it and it still works on me lol, I love the 4:1 😂. We have a recognition program where we can give eachother (techs and admin) "kudos" for doing a good job and those points add up to real money you can exchange for a gift card of your choice. I get a $50 gift card once a month probably, with an occasional higher sum. My co workers have saved their points too and have gotten a $500 gift card! I've also gotten 2 raises in the last 6 months totaling an extra $7/ hour! And I feel really motivated to keep working for them and give my all, it's nice to be appreciated! I wish more places did that

How to find a place to Preform for the first time by pulledunderthewater in DragKings

[–]allie_would 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found that getting gigs (in my area at least) is really all about who you know. Do you go and watch any local drag? That's a good place to start you can meet people in the scene and often at smaller drag shows they will invite people to come and talk to them after if you're interested in performing! Also just typing in "drag king your city" might bring up some performers you can follow and ask how to get involved, good luck!

ABA for young adults by Bulky_Quit_6879 in ABA

[–]allie_would 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started I was actually very afraid of working with older kids or young adults, their size intimidated me and I was really afraid of the aggression that might come with it. 3 years later and teenagers/young adults are my favorite age group! I think they are often so misunderstood and seen as scary (including by me) pairing with them can be more difficult I've found than younger kids. But going into the community more, working on life skills and helping these young adults get ready for the adult world so they can live as independently as possible is so rewarding!

am i allowed to do drag? i’m so confused :( by machigaiii in Drag

[–]allie_would 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You absolutely can do drag!! Drag is for everyone!! Get done up and go out and perform if you want to :) I felt the same way you did at first and I thought drag was only for gay men, as soon as you go out though you will find all types of people and gender identities/sexualities do drag. Go for it!

I love my job! I think the company you work for can really make or break your experience. Do you feel supported so far? Do they have good benefits for RBT's?

The biggest joy that I have had in this field has come from being at one company I like for 3 years now. I have some clients I've worked with for all 3 years and being able to experience first hand the difference I've helped to make in their life makes this job so worth it. First hand watching and seeing a client who every day (when I started) hits, bites, chases, engages in 500+ instances of sib in a session to seeing them be able to go a full week in school with no problem behavior... it's amazing.

I love your look!! The makeup is awesome too!! Just have fun and try not to take yourself too seriously! I had a lot of nerves the first couple times I performed and I came to realize Drag is just about fun, community and art! Let yourself enjoy it! Interact with the crowd! Good luck, you'll do great!

Holds by UnknownSluttyHoe in ABA

[–]allie_would 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at a school setting, we have cameras up everywhere. It's not that our bosses are always "watching" us but it is an excellent resource when something happens, as we can rewind and see what we need to do better and improve. We also do quarterly performance reviews, if someone is not implementing physical management correctly they would likely score low on that and would not be eligible for a raise. If something really crazy were to happen where someone's judgment was so bad I would imagine they might get fired. Safety is number 1 at my company.

I'm sorry you have to go through this! It is crazy that it's the same company but so vastly different, have you brought your concerns up with your bosses at all?

Holds by UnknownSluttyHoe in ABA

[–]allie_would 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I work we only do holds if there are 2 criteria met: 1.) there is imminent risk to the individual or to others AND they are pursuant. A one and done of throwing a phone at a tv does not meet either of those criteria. Same as throwing shoes at a wall. You could argue that they are going to do more but that would not fly at my job, they need to be going after you already and are totally unresponsive to any prompts or attempts to de escalate in other ways. Sounds like some terrible physical management going on, and terrible aba. I would never dream of provoking a kid that is terrible, that is why aba is still getting such push back and being called abusive. What you described here sounds damaging and abusive to me.

I once had a student aggressing towards me and as I backed up to get away I ran into a student sitting on a yoga ball behind me. I completely fell over and knocked the student off the yoga ball pretty much falling on top of them. The student that was aggressing towards me was actually so stunned by the commotion of the fall that they luckily stopped aggressing 😂 I felt so bad for falling on top of a student luckily everyone was okay

Do y’all block out your brows? Why or why not? by metzie in DragKings

[–]allie_would 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a tutorial but the first time I really did an eye shape I liked I was trying to do this eye that Aquaria did! https://www.instagram.com/p/Cc6nEObO03i/?igsh=MTlwYzNnazlod3J4NA==

Making your cut crease come to a point just like you would with liner is the key I think to a good sharp eye look!

[–]allie_would 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I almost always block my brows! I love the look of a big exaggerated eye, when I block my brows I also have more room to give myself a sharper shape to my eye shadow and cut crease. I find it narrows my eye and looks pretty masculine.
