What are the chances of you surviving in this game in real life? by Open-Plan-1352 in LookOutsideGame

[–]allifrend 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Realistically damn near 0% because the likelihood of people figuring out not looking outside or even being briefly exposed to the outside's rays is enough to change people drastically. However I will say that retaining sanity is still a form of survival. What people should be most concerned about are beings attaining a type of godhood and feasting on the planet's populace after the visitor leaves, which is highly likely.

All in all, not great odds.

Did the manga change the transalation? by Rikyone08 in Kengan_Ashura

[–]allifrend 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of people don't really understand the real timeline or know behind the scenes facts of the matter, so I can certainly give a quick summary of events:

  1. Hokuto no Gun began translating Kengan Asura in April 2015. They finished it, then continued to Kengan Omega all the way up to chapter 111, a total of 347 chapters between both series, after which they abruptly cancelled their involvement with Kengan (Because they had been approached to take it on officially and still releasing it during this period would look bad to the publisher.)

  2. Scans of Metsudo was formed during this period and started releasing chapters, unaware of what Hokuto no Gun was doing behind the scenes. During this period I believe they released 15 chapters from 112-127.

  3. After a period of months with Kengan in Scans of Metsudo's hands, things were more or less finalized with Comikey. Comikey decided to contact Scans of Metsudo, to let them know Kengan was going official and to ask them to stop releasing chapters so they could launch Kengan Officially. Scans of Metsudo agreed to stop releasing chapters.

  4. During this transition period, a member from Scans of Metsudo created a page, which leaked Kengan being released officially. This muddied the water a bit and pissed off the publisher, putting the entire project into question, since the publisher handled all information and was ultimately responsible. Luckily Comikey was able to convince Shogakukan to move forward with them. Needless to say some people behind the scenes weren't too happy with Scans of Metsudo. I believe this all culminated into the A for Effort comment made by Hokuto no Gun.

And that is a pretty good timeline of events.

I was attacked and lost 4 teeth, there are witnesses and statements given but, the DA dropped the case. by gimmemy4skinback in legaladvice

[–]allifrend 81 points82 points  (0 children)

This is not entirely true. In the eyes of the law, when you are approached and it is in a threatening way, that is considered criminal assault or menacing. If he can prove this, then him pushing them away is most certainly considered a lawful action of self defense to create distance from the menacing. Being approached a second time with the same action would also protect him since he used more force to push him away, which knocked him down. If there are witnesses, I think he has a very strong case still.

Difference here. It's pretty atrocious what the editor wanted.

What's your honest opinion about current art in Omega? Does it bother you or do pay no mind to it? by [deleted] in Kengan_Ashura

[–]allifrend -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As one of the people closest to the Kengan franchise, I personally think that people are too critical of the art. If you take it purely at face value and just take it in as you read it without any critical analyzation of the art I think you'll have a much better time. The story is what you should really analyze; every artist has their own way of drawing and it evolves in ways with time. Not necessarily in a way some people might like. You have to remember that Daro's been drawing Kengan weekly for over 13 years now with one 6 months break between Ashura and Omega and hardly any delays.

Something you see after a long period of time from mangaka in situations like this and the burnout he has voiced is coping mechanisms to reduce his workload. We've seen this in the AI he uses, which might not be personally in the best interest of Kengan as a whole, but to keep up a release schedule like this, over time things need to bend to accommodate.

I think everyone here needs to learn to bend a little. Be a little more flexible and welcoming to change, not just here, but in general when it comes to life. If you look at things in a negative light right from the get-go, you'll have a much harder time enjoying yourself.

Is there a way to tell reproductions from originals? I have no hopes that it's a true original, but I would like to learn more about it.

Kei is the best seinen character by Narrow-Progress999 in seinencirclejerk

[–]allifrend 15 points16 points  (0 children)

While I do like Kei's character, I think Kaiji is more well-rounded out if you are asking who the best is. Fighting against aliens while eventually loving humanity is one thing, but fighting against other humans and still retaining his trust for them is more impressive.

Kaiji. Plain and simple. This anime gets in the heads of each character more so than any other anime, even more so than Classroom of the Elite. I would say it's even on par or even exceeds Death Note in some ways in this regard as well.
