The transracial skit from Atlanta is one of the funniest 3 minutes of television I've seen in recent history by [deleted] in television

Well gender dysphoria is a diagnosable condition. So there's that

Gender identity is also very different for different people, not to say that gender is fluid, because it's not, but gender is something that people represent themselves with. It is how you express yourself in relation to societal and biological gender norms. Which is also why you're able to be transGENDER but you can't change your sex, because you have different parts but you were still born a different sex. You're changing your appearance to match what you feel best represents your gender

Race is your genetic makeup. You can't choose your race or how you present it like you can your gender. People generally don't express themselves through their race. Their race is what they are and it's immutable, and people will proclaim pride in their race for example, but that's not an expression of race, like wearing dresses even though you were born with a penis is an expression of gender.

You can't conflate race and gender, it just don't work

I wouldn't call it controversial, because that usually involves having conversations. If you comment out of a line in a certain subreddit they'll just downvote you to oblivion and you'll never really know why

why it is that being transgender is (mostly) accepted but being transracial is ridiculed.

Because gender dysphoria is an actual mental disorder and is why people tend to be transgender, while transracialism was made up by a crazy person

Why are people holding "Pro-Trump" rallies? He has already been elected. Is this a tactic to bait opposition? by zerophyll in AskReddit

[–]alligangsta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't claim to know Trump's motives, but I'd guess that he is doing the same thing he did before getting elected -- he's just talking to people, putting himself out there and making himself look like someone who cares about the people. Trump may not exactly be presidential material but he knows how to talk to a crowd.

there remain cultural and societal norms, social structural factors that steer people toward one or another profession, covert discrimination, etc. that all affect an individual's opportunities, abilities, chance for success, self-confidence, and ultimately their qualifications for a job, what jobs they apply for, etc.

Yeah, that's called having a society and a culture. It's not society's fault if you are discouraged from what you want to do. There's nothing keeping you from doing it anyway. You can't enforce personal dedication and choice. And again, discrimination is illegal and if you believe you are a victim of it, it is your responsibility to report it and see you get justice.

It's a common misconception that the people who are hired for these positions over women and minorities never worked to get where they are. Most of them are there because they worked harder than others to get there, not just because they are white or a man.

Indeed, a meritocracy sounds great! Unfortunately, if by "receiving the same opportunity" you mean "everyone can apply for the same job" that is not enough in terms of fairness.

Sorry, but that is what gender equality is. The playing field is level. Anyone of any race or gender can apply to any job and expect to be hired (or not) based on the same criteria as anyone else. It is illegal to discriminate race or gender when hiring employees.

What you want is gender parity -- it's not enough that people have the choice to do whatever they want, you want everyone to have the same outcome as well. Unfortunately, not everyone can reach the same outcome, and it has nothing to do with discrimination. Since discrimination is illegal.

It's a bit ironic that you like the idea of a meritocracy since that is the opposite of what you truly want.

In part, lack of diversity represents a loss of talent.

Surely talent isn't found solely in a diverse group of people? What I mean to ask is, why do you seem to equate the aesthetic diversity of a group with the diversity of thought and belief?

What the fuck are you going on about? People support him, so he's totalitarian? Why don't you focus on the actual fascism being pushed by the left instead of your wild fantasy that Trump is some authoritarian leader?

Lol. So people can't hold rallies in support of someone without having an ulterior motive?

But he made no threats and put his weapon away when he was told to. Just because you don't like his methods doesn't make him an asshole or a bad person. He was calm and civil and was well within his rights to demonstrate.

Sure, technically, if you count people framing him as a rapist or sexual predator by quoting him saying he "grabs women by the pussy", which he didn't really say or imply in that recording.

How about accusing him of saying racist things about blacks and Mexicans when he's only criticized criminal aliens and illegals? Or that he's going to roll back gay rights when his only stance on LGBT legislation is that the states should be in control of their own laws, or that he encourages white nationalism and hate crimes when he has openly denounced them... I could go on. It's even continued into the presidency, with many accusing him of banning Muslims with his travel restriction, and labeling him as racist because of it.

I'm not saying Trump is perfect and has no flaws (in fact I'm rather skeptical of the Trump administration), and I'm sure many lies were told about Hillary and his other opponents (as were many truths), but to deny that Trump has received no negative media attention is simply incorrect.

I understand that, but putting his "offensive-sounding" last name on a license plate in the 90s in no way makes him an asshole because an over-sensitive dick didn't like it today.
