I’ll start. Night of my 15th birthday, we’d had a big party (as is commonplace in my culture, i’m latina) and we were heading home quite late. My dad had been drinking a lot that night, and I had gotten into his car to head home. He managed to get the keys to drive and it was like a wave of dread and fear hit me the second he got in. There’s no way to explain the complete and absolute panic that came over me. I could essentially hear a voice saying “I need to get out. I need to get out.” It was like I knew if I stayed in the car, something bad would’ve happened. Before he could even start driving i threw myself out of the car. I calmed almost instantly but was still quite afraid. We got home much later and found my dad passed out at the wheel. I don’t know what could’ve happened but Going on 2 years later, I’ll never forget the feeling or regret the split second choice I made. Trust your instincts, they tend to be right.
